Here Comes Teddy Bridgewater?

March 8th, 2022

Available.

So in a handful of hours late this morning and early this afternoon, there is movement in the quarterback market.

Drama queen choke artist Aaron Rodgers re-upped with the Packers and the Broncos traded for Russell Wilson (dopey Drew Lock got thrown in the deal and is headed to Seattle — you poor, poor people of Seattle).

So guess what pending free agent quarterback is suddenly 100 percent available? You guessed it, it’s newly christened Broncos backup and former Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians’ mancrush Teddy Bridgewater.

Remember two years ago when Arians decided to turn the page from Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston? Arians lusted over Bridgewater almost as much as he currently has been drooling over Blaine Gabbert.

Joe heard so much about “Door No. 2” in relation to Bridgewater that Joe wanted to chain that door shut.

So how much is Arians still hot for Bridgewater? Unless the Bucs pull off a trade for Deshaun Watson or bring in soon-to-be-released Carson Wentz, the Bucs will still need a quarterback. And Bridgewater is now a clipboard carrier.

Will the Bucs pull in Bridgewater?

Joe needs a drink, man.

Ugh !! Bout tapped for a QB. Watson would be good. Wentz is not ideal but better than the alternative I guess

  2. HC Grover Says:

    Oh Nooooo! Pffft! Accck!

  3. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Jaymiss will join Joe for that drink. Jaymiss will buy.

  4. WalkdaPlank Says:

Starting Gabbert over Trask is foolish, but at least has the weak justification that Gabbert has been in the same system longer.

Starting Bridgewater over Trask is just foolish.

Russell Wilson being traded proves all the reports wrong that teams were not willing to trade their big name QB’s without a strong backup plan. Seahawks have nobody now and a poor QB class in this year’s draft. Bucs could have had Wilson, which I would have preferred over most other options out there.

  5. Francisco Guzman Says:

Entice Brady to come back! Make some moves. Anyway the nfc has become a basement with wilson leaving.

  6. HC Grover Says:

Fire Bucco and get Brady and Gronk back at any price! Make them an offer they can not refuse. Let Brady pick the coach. Anything but this.

  7. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Funny comment: Breaking News Josh Mcdaniels quit on the raiders HC and go OC New England Patriots as division too hard now

thats gooing to be a hard sell.

I’m gonna go hide my head in the sand.

  10. SKBucsFan Says:

    No. We don’t need him.

  11. Its a Bucs Life Says:

AFC is stacked is gonna have 8 or 9 teams competing to win it. While NFC will be between GB, Rams and Dallas.

Licht and the clown that is BA better get a decent QB in here. Gonna be tough going from the GOAT to a bunch of trash

  12. gbobucsfan Says:

Has Arians said anything about Bridgewater recently? Like in the previous 2 years. or after his terrible stops in Carolina and Denver?

  13. Bruce Blahak Says:

    puke!

  14. Thomas Edrington Says:

    Here comes MEDIOCRITY!

  15. Stone crab sam Says:

Cant the Bucs sign Giselle as an executive bla bla bla with the provision her husband signs with the Bucs as a stipulation to the deal?😂

  16. Tye Says:

I wouldn’t blame the Bucs free agents for bailing if the Bucs chose Bridgewater or Watson… I am more than certain I would bail in those situations if I were in their shoes!

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Tye … I’m convinced that different FAs simply have different motivations. Some players MAY want to finish out their career here. That could be guys like Will Gholston. And PERHAPS JPP & Suh & Gio (I mean how many more years of playing ball do any of them have left?). MAYBE they’d like to go out as Buccaneers.

Whitehead & Cappa & Stinnie & Fournette on the other hand are younger, and probably see a chance for a fairly big payday. Heck, if I were them I’d test the FA waters.

Of course then you have guys like Gabbert & OJ & RoJo & Minter & Adams & Wells & O’Connor. Very serviceable as backups because they know ‘the system’, and can probably be re-signed at very reasonable prices. If not, then hey, there’s LOTS of other FAs out there wanting to be signed.

  19. NebraskaBuc Says:

Gabbert or Wentz as a short term solution. Put Trask in 5 or 6 games in and see how he does. Pick from a stronger qb class next year.

  20. Niles Says:

Last season he had a QBR of 47.4. What a dud.

  21. kyle Says:

at this point I think Trubisky is the best option to come in and compete with gabbert and trask… cant belive i just typed that…ugggh its a bucs life…..

  22. unbelievable Says:

    No. No. No. no.

We don’t need Captain Checkdown II.

He does not make any sense for Arians offense.

  23. BUCman Says:

    Not happening.

  24. Posey99 Says:

Per Bruce arians he would be door #2, Trask is still door #1

  25. Dewey Selmon Says:

In the last couple season Herbert, Burrow and Mac jones come into the NFL and play their rookie season. We have a 2nd year guy who just had a 1 year tutorial from the GOAT. I would roll with Trask. Bet he wont throw 30 ints either.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

    No.

  27. LVMYBUCS Says:

    BUM!!!!!!!!!!!! No thanks

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What makes anyone think Bridgewater is better than Trask?…..after all, Trask has never lost a game or thrown an interception….never fumbled or been sacked.

    What’s not to like?

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

Signing Bridgewater would make no sense.
He’s past his prime as evidenced by his performances in Carolina and Denver.
He’d cost $4-5 mil against the cap
He doesn’t make the Bucs better.

  30. ItzOK Says:

Jameis is the only option. go get him. Teddy cannot and will not make this top ranked offense run. Jameis should be better in his second run in the BA offense just like every other QB under BA.

  31. MiKE Says:

IF THEY TAKE BRIDGEWATER , IT’S OVER FOR THE BUC’S , WE WILL GO BACK BEING THE STINKING BUCS , OR SHOULD I SAY THE SINKEN BUC’S ……………

    ————-

I don’t like Bridgewater at all, but he is almost certainly better than Trask at this point, Trask was a 4th string QB last year who is having to relearn how to throw a football.

With that said, Bridgewater is garbage, he’s a guy that will get you to 6-11 or 7-10, maybe if everything breaks right he’s 8-9, regardless, you’re not in the playoffs, or, if you did get there in a very very weak NFC South, you’re losing in the first round.

I’d much rather scratch off the lottery ticket that is Trask and see what happens than winning $1 on the lottery ticket that cost you $2.

  33. kyle Says:

agree rod^^^ .500 record in the nfl is purgatory.. bad draft position, usually always searching for a franchise qb…

  34. YetiBucSmash Says:

Anyone that keeps saying Gabbert or Wentz has no clue…Those guys have done NOTHING in this league. NOTHING. Injury prone Wentz will need Foles to finish the job as usual. Gabbert is awful. AWFUL!

  35. CChead Says:

    Mariota

  36. Dan Says:

    We want KIRK! or Mariota

  37. SaintsFan59 Says:

For Bridgewater’s sake I hope he ends up with a team with some class. Which obviously, leaves the Yuckaneers not in the running.

  38. rrsrq Says:

Like BA said about Blaine, Teddy has not had a team this talented before. BA just wants somebody who is not going to turn the ball over – forget no risk it, no biscuit – he is no longe in the risk it market – but with Godwin staying, that will help any QB. I say bring back Perriman and Jameis (lol) add Cordelle Patterson and the Bucs will win the division

  39. Niles Says:

Bring back Favre. Two years ago Favre went to a Chiefs practice and Andy Reid said he looked like he can still play.

    ————-

I’d select this option over Gabbert or Bridgewater or Trask.

Favre can still throw the football, I have zero doubt he can throw at least as hard as Brady – which isn’t everything, but it is a thing. The issue is durability, can you be 52-years old and get hit and still get up. I know it wasn’t a serious option, but if you actually think about it, it would be interesting – if you could keep Favre upright, he’d probably do quite well.

Then again he’s the NFL’s all-time INT leader, and he’s going to turn the ball over a lot. I’m not the one that has an issue with that, turns out you win football games by scoring more points than the other guy, not winning the TO column on the stat sheet. BUT, if we’re going to be OK with 20-22 INTs, then there’s a less risky option out there, who’s proven, who’s much younger, who won’t cost much, he used to even play for us.

  41. Niles Says:

    “Rod Munch Says:

Then again he’s the NFL’s all-time INT leader.”

And Babe Ruth is the MLB strikeout king.

Favre’s TD-INT ratio is actually similar (or better) than many QB greats (e.g., Marino), same for his INT percentage. But when you play every game for 20 years, you’ll have a lot of everything.

  42. Duane Says:

If its down to retreads, 30-30 from Jameis may be enough to win the NFC South. Those teams were always one more game out of reach of the post season. Dont have to worry about the line play because Jameis was always going to hold onto the ball for 7 seconds before looking for the big play. Not much upside, but not a big risk either.

  43. kyle Says:

ill take jameis over the jugs machine, Jugs machine is pretty accurate though?????

  44. Biff Barker Says:

Roll with Trask. Pain is inevitable with a young QB. Let’s give him a shot.

  45. Mike Johnson Says:

Just stick with what we have for now. Improve the O line and D line. Don’t mortgage the team for one guy unless he is a Brady. Wilson has started to decline somewhat. I like Teddy B but…the guy is injury prone. Nope..Stay on course.

  46. SufferingSince76 Says:

If it took Brady most of 2020 to learn the offense, how long do you think it would take Bridgewater? Or anyone else for that matter. Yikes.

  47. SlyPirate Says:

THE OFFSEASON TAKEAWAY SO FAR …

  48. JB Says:

“Teddy is our quarterback” – Lovie “Smith” Arians

  49. Rob F Says:

I’d rather see what Trask can do.

  50. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Bridgewater does not have a strong arm, that is needed in the Arians offense. He is more of a dink and dunk ball control QB.
Best suited to a west coast offense.

  51. TampaTommyD Says:

With the recent moves(no Wilson or Rodgers) I honestly think Teddy isnt a bad option. Watched a lot of broncos games this year, and when Teddy had a bit of time he played well, and the offense around him will be immediatly better then the few weapons he had in Denver.

  52. Buc4evr Says:

Ranking the bottom feeders that are still available:
    Jameis
    Wentz
    Bridgewater

    Pick your poison Buc fans.

  53. David Says:

Seems like Carson Wentz is the best option out there at this point unless Trask is a lot more advanced than we think

  54. firethecannons Says:

I would like to see Trask take over this team in training camp, Big No to Bridgewater and No to Wentz

  55. adam from ny Says:

might the bucs swap trask for bridgewater straight up ???

  56. adam from ny Says:

what if teddy came here and had another revival like during his mirage like 5-0 run with the saints a few years back while filling in for brees

  57. steele Says:

Bilgewater is among the lower half of the QB list, which is almost all mediocrity.

  58. onetrickpony Says:

I would take Ajax Babaloochee over Bridgewater, or even Mariota before Bridgewater

I think joe needs to go to bed. None of the options you keep saying the bucs need to go after are any better than gabbert or trash.
