Bruce Arians Drowns Jameis Winston Speculation With An Odd Response

March 1st, 2022

Pending free agent quarterback Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, rifled 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions en route to a 5,000-yard season for Bucco Bruce Arians in 2019.

The Bucs are in the market for a quarterback to replace Tom Brady, so what about Jameis?

Arians was asked where he stands on a potential Jameis return to today at the NFL Scouting Combine. Is that a hard no, Coach?

“No. Not totally. But I don’t think it’s the best thing for him,” Arians said of a Jameis return to Tampa.

Joe found that to be an odd ending to Arians’ short answer. How could it be a bad thing for Jameis personally to return to a team where he knows the big weapons and the offense, and the overall roster is talented in a weak division? Perhaps it’s Arians’ love for Door No. 1. Or perhaps Jameis would know how much Arians and Byron Leftwich would holler at him.

No, Joe did not ask the Jameis question.

Arians doesn’t want quarterback drama and, man, would that be controversy!

    TRANSLATION:

He’d get tired of me yelling at him so often for sucking.

  2. Niles Says:

Jose Canseco was the first 40-40 man in MLB baseball history.

Jamoist Winston was the first 30-30 man in NFL football history.

    One great, the other bad.

  3. mark2001 Says:

Joe… I think it is obvious why Jameis shouldn’t return here. If he has made any progress the last couple years, and grown as a QB and as a human being, coming back here would likely result in him slipping back into the version of what he was. And after Brady, his shortcoming would just be magnified. The best thing for Jameis, and the Bucs, would be for him to sign a nice contract in NO. And continue to progress in his development.

  4. Day 1-76 Says:

That would be the easiest answer, besides Arians “Quarterback Whisperer” ego nonsense. I know the haters would have a seizure and smash their trailer homes in a meth-fueled rage out of love for their mighty gators. Like it or not, it’s the best solution.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

No Jameis? Aw Joe, you just broke Mr Munch’s heart.

  6. mark2001 Says:

Some of you guys make me laugh. If Arians was good enough for Brady, he is good enough for most any other QB.

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

A Moot point really because The Saints are quite enamored with Winston, and need a QB too.
No way they let him go.

  8. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Phew

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Saints new HC said he wants to keep Jameis as a starter. I think he is a good fir for them. We will probably go with Gabbert and Trask. I don’t have my hopes up guys. Look for a 5 to 6 hundred season at best.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

In paper Winston makes some sense. But it might matter less what Bruce thinks……..it kinda sorta matters if Winston would even consider playing for Tampa Bay. My guess is that the Bucs are maybe the last team Winston would play for.

He got his fresh start and did a good job. Why would he go back to a system that exposed all his decision making flaws? He should be looking to build off of the bit of success he had in a seperate system not go back to the system that had NFL analysts across the land laughing at him. Makes no sense.

This question could only have been asked to get a nice sound byte.

  11. Anonymous Says:

Day 76 I guess you like the Bucs when they’re losers

  12. Rod Munch Says:

I think he’s right, with as much as I’d like Winston to return as opposed to QBs like Carr, Jimmy G, Wentz – there are so many stupid, moronic idiots that don’t know anything about football around here that they’d make his life miserable and every time there was a turnover they’d be saying how every loss since 1976 is on Winston.

That’s the issue with dopes with derangement syndrome, you can’t reason with them, they’re mentally ill morons. That’s you if you’re a Jameis hater, you’re defective, like Putin and Hitler.

  13. Tye Says:

That’s great because we know very well that he brings loses!

  14. Eric Says:

I like Winston but I see Bruce’s point. The fan base would never give him a chance and following Brady is tough enough.

Still rooting for him though. Made big strides last year.

Looking back perhaps the no risk it no biscuit wasnt the best game plan for Jameis.

  15. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Winston on Saints with their returning roster their defence and assuming Kamara isn’t in prison to me is the stronger team v. Tampa with Trask/Wentz/Gabbert type QB with Evans Godwin etc.

Winston best rated stretch on PFF history occurred on the Saints the last 7 weeks prior to his injury. Saints would’ve been a playoff team last year if Winston played all season.

Winston is rated by PFF as the top FA QB.

  16. David Says:

It’s obviously a bad fit for JW. He is supposed to return here and try to follow Brady? 😂
If he doesn’t throw for as many touchdowns, yards and/or more interceptions, half the Fanbase will boo him out of existence. He should not want to come back here.
(And us fans should not want him back either)

  17. Ash Says:

Some schemes are just bad fits for qbs alot is demanded from qbs in arians system in decision making just not a fit for Winston

  18. Oneilbuc Says:

Again let’s see if Jamies was the problem or BA ?? We have a young quarterback on the team that was the number one quarterback in college but he’s still looking for a veteran quarterback. He need to prove he’s a quarterback guru or a quarterback whisper like yall think he is. Jamies looked like a different quarterback in New Orleans rather you want to admit it or not it’s facts!! The saints were 5 and 2 when Jamies played and he played with trash receivers 14 touchdowns and 4 picks.

  19. sasquatch Says:

Yes, “not the best thing for him” translates as “he doesn’t thrice when getting his ass chewed out for throwing pick-6s”… Also, not the best thing for him to be in an offense that requires wise decisions with the ball.

  20. Ash Says:

He looked different because it was different scheme without alot of difficult decisions to make like it or not it’s facts lol

  21. Rod Munch Says:

This is what I mean by people not understanding football.

Winston is a perfect fit for Arians offense. ALL QBs in his offense throw career high picks in their first year with him, and then all, except for Brady, reduce that number greatly in year 2.

Winston took the team to a 9-7 record, except for Gay personally losing two games. Mind you, that 2019 team, the defense was exceptionally bad in the first half of the year, then down the strech, they’re having to start Watson at WR.

Winston wasn’t throwing 30-picks again, it likely would have dropped to around 16-18INT, and Brady threw 14 btw.

Brady is the GOAT, and even as a huge Winston backer, I said at the time, of course you sign Brady, but it doesn’t mean you shut the door on Winston. Even he said you can’t get mad if you lose your job to the greatest ever to play the game.

Winston, if he had Evans and Godwin, is going to get you right around 5000 yards, probably 36 TDs, lets go with 17 INTs, and would have the team probably 10-7, winning the NFC South, and from there, who knows, it would just depend on who the play and if the WRs get hurt like they do every year.

BTW, before we signed Brady, I had the Bucs in 2020 going 11-5, getting to the 2nd round of the playoffs and losing to the Saints. After we signed Brady, I said where he’s going to payoff is in that Saints game. In 2019 I said we’d go 7-9. In 2021, I said we’d go 13-4. I’m quite good at being realistic with predictions and nailing them, which I’ve every year since 2017 I believe.

Winston, already knowing the offense, and the personsell, and having been able to sit behind a first ballot HOF’er for a year, would step right in and do a great job. He’s not Brady, but literally no one is.

The real shame in not even making an effort to bring him back even though he’s afford, still has upside, and is still young enough that he could be your QB for at least the next decade.

With all that said, as you’ll see from the idiots above, it’s the moronic fans that don’t understand football, that would just sabotage him at every corner because they’re retards that have no idea of what they’re watching on the field. That’s what Arians is saying.

  22. Dapostman Says:

Winston will sign with NOLA or Pittsburgh.

He ain’t coming back to this fanbase. I really think he’d like to stay in NOLA and stick it to the Bucs for the next 10 years.

Just my thoughts because that’s what I’d do.

  23. JBBucs06 Says:

@R Munch, spot on. I also think that Arians saying what he said is about the hatred Saints have for Bucs and JWinston burned that bridge with his antics over the last two years post Saints victories. Bucs players won’t forget that, will be tough to lead from a space of maturity after those incidents. Is what it is.

  24. Ash Says:

You see it the way you see it and we will see it the way we see it but I won’t call you an idiot for a difference of opinion have a good day

  25. Craig Says:

I think Arians expects his #1 QB to be better than Jameis. That means that Jameis would have to sit down in a place where he was the anointed on.

That would be very bad for his psyche.

  26. RandsABucFan Says:

    Nice retort mark2001.

    I totally agree with you.

  27. Christos Says:

I dont get why we keep having the Winston conversation, really dont. He was here for 5 years. You liked him or you didnt its over. I dont expect this conversation to be over even if he resigns with NO or goes to another team. Tired of it to be honest. But it is what it is i guess.

  28. SKBucsFan Says:

Winston wasn’t affordable when Brady was brought in. He had a $20 million option on his 5th year. Since there were no takers for a trade, and he didn’t want to take a huge pay cut, he was released. Signing him again would be a bad move for both parties. Best just to keep moving on from each other.

  29. DoooshLaRue Says:

    “Stupid, moronic idiots”

    Triple redundancy anyone ?

    Anywho?

  30. Proud Bucs Fan Says:

Word around town, is that Winston would retire, before he would play for bruce arrogance again.

  31. Defense Rules Says:

Mr Munch … ‘as you’ll see from the idiots above, it’s the moronic fans that don’t understand football, that would just sabotage him at every corner because they’re retards that have no idea of what they’re watching on the field.’

The one who sabotaged Jameis Winston was … Jameis Winston. And if you need specific examples Mr Munch, you weren’t paying attention. Maybe that’d be different if you spent less time berating others and looked inward for a change.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Dooodoocuhe… really? That’s where you’re offended, not when I compared you dopes to Putin and Hitler? Come on man.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Defense Rules – If Tom Brady hadn’t been available, Winston would have been the QB in 2020. Again, I was 100% for getting Brady, you don’t pass on the GOAT, but saying Winston isn’t as good as Tom Brady is some remarkably dull insight.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

JBBucs06 – I completely disagree on anyone on the Bucs caring that Winston celebrated a win, if they did, then they’re some very very shallow weak minded people. But I do agree with you on the parts where you agreed with me.

  35. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Offended?
    Hardly.

I was merely pointing out you’re stupidity.

    #nutthuggerbrigadeforever

  36. Rod Munch Says:

Dooodoocuhe – you used the wrong your… what an idiot! My god, you have to be the dumbest person on the face of the earth to get that wrong! LOLLOL!OL!OL!OLOLXOXOOL!OLOL! What a turd.

  37. Defense Rules Says:

Mr Munch … ‘saying Winston isn’t as good as Tom Brady is some remarkably dull insight.’

Seriously? You REALLY believe that? Now I see why you believe the REST of the world are idiots. It all makes sense after that statement.

  38. Vadertime Says:

Agree with Arians. Bringing Winston back would not be in the best interests of either party. NO should consider keeping him around for another year, assuming his ACL/MCL injuries have healed. Tampa should look elsewhere for Brady’s replacement. Jimmy G. might be a decent stopgap until a long-term solution can be found at QB.

  39. Bucsfan951 Says:

Winston’s 2019 stats with the Bucs:

    1. 16 ints in the first half

2. 24 ints in bucs territory

    3. 8 ints within the Bucs own 20 yard line

    4. 16 ints within bucs 21-50

    5. 8tds to 10 ints thrown in the first quarter

    6. Pass attempts 1-10 to start the game 6tds/11ints

    7. Only 10 tds in the second half thrown by Winston.

Tell me again how he was balling?

  40. Bucsfan951 Says:

    @rod

I would not be calling out someone else’s grammatical errors after seeing your posts.

  41. BA4President Says:

JW is a bad fit for NFL football

  42. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey Niles, Is that the same Jose Canseco the “juicer”?
Whatever else Winston has done while he was here, he didn’t “cheat” to get his best season record.. NO to a Winston Re-run. That water has already passed the bridge, about the time of his signing with NO, and his “W” eating fingers in our stadium. NO NOT IN OUR HOUSE…

  43. Oneilbuc Says:

Again Jamies looked like a different quarterback under a better coach yall can’t deny that it’s a fact!! Than he was balling against us until he got hurt and that’s why we actually lost against the saints. He was the quarterback the last time we beat the Rams and the saints in the regular season. But at the same time BA has to put up or shut up now . It’s time for him to prove he’s a quarterback whisper! All I know is that every young quarterback he started with that was rookies gotten better once he left. Big Ben had already helped his team win a superbowl before he got their. Palmer was developed in Cincinnati . Andrew Luck was already developed when he became the coach and he got Luck beat up so bad he retired. BA got fired in Pittsburgh because of him getting big Ben hit and throwing interceptions because of that out dated offense. And he was fired in Cleveland. Than he coach Jamies to 30 interceptions because he refused to make changes to his out dated offense until Brady came and Brady had 8 interceptions in 3 games before he was willing to make changes and that was because of the media started talking bad about him . So what has he done besides cursing in press conferences that makes him such a good coach!!!

  44. Bucsfanman Says:

Jameis had his chance. If he wasn’t the #1 overall pick he would’ve been jettisoned earlier.
Best wishes to him in his career unless playing the Bucs.

  45. SlyPirate Says:

What Arians is saying is there’s bad blood between the Bucs and Winston …

    1. BA, LVD and others have made disparaging comments about Winston.
    2. Winston stopped “following” Evans on Twitter.
    3. Winston was obnoxious after the Saints beat the Bucs.

  46. Oneilbuc Says:

Sly you have no proof of your statement!! Show the proof and I will believe you!!

  47. NebraskaBuc Says:

If it walks like a crab leg stealin’, fake w eatin’, can’t see down field because I need Lasik duck that throws a record 30 interceptions in a season, and it talks like a crab leg stealin’, fake w eatin’, can’t see downfield because I need Lasik duck that throws a record 30 interceptions in a season, I’d say it’s Jameis Winston and he ain’t welcome back here.

  48. will reistad Says:

    I’ll take Jameis’ 5109 yards/ 33 TD’s /30 ints season over Favre’s 3381 yards / 20 TD’s / 29 picks 2005 season any year on the calendar!
Look at the numbers here folks and tell me why Winston is somehow bottom of the barrel and Favre’s in the HOF without a whisper of being a bust?
