Say Goodbye To Ronald Jones

March 1st, 2022

Bucs GM Jason Licht weighs in

It might be time to take your Ronald Jones jersey to the Goodwill donation bin, or to sell it on Ebay.

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht was talking to local media at the NFL Scouting Combine today and was finishing up sharing his deep love of healing Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin.

“Sometimes you have to bet on the guy,” Licht said of Godwin in closing. Joe jumped in next.

JoeBucsFan.com: Is Ronald Jones one of those guys? Do you feel like he’s a priority for the team to bring back?

Bucs GM Jason Licht: We’ll be looking at all options at running back. Appreciate Ronald for what he’s done. Had a great year for us two years ago, the year before. But we’ll have to see what the market bears and we’ll have to see where we’re at.

Thank you for your service, RoJo.

Good runner, can’t catch out of the backfield, can’t pass block.

  2. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

After what we saw in his first season, it’s a miracle he fulfilled his rookie contract.
    Thanks RoJo
    Go Bucs!

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hope he does well for whoever, but his time so far in the Burgh by the Bay has been spotty at best. Good runner, but receiving and pass blocking, has just not been good with him.
And then there is the little thing about stepping out of bounds short of the 1st down marker. lol.
So much talent, but where is his mind and heart? ROJO continues to be a mystery.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Pay attention young fellas on this here site: In true Bucs fashion, Rojo will go somewhere else and star for the next five years…may even get another ring. #BucsLife…it’s always been that way.

  5. HC Grover Says:

Hope the door does not hit him in the back.

  6. Rotten Amiigo94 Says:

Goodbye one less pouter on the sideline

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Rojo never fit this offense. He has suspect hands and isn’t great at pass blocking either.

I see Rojo fitting in better in the Titans offense.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

I think RoJo can make a name for himself if he gets on the right team…….a running team.

Hes just not a good fit in the Biscuit offense. We pass first and that means you need RBs to catch the ball and block. Ronald cant do either well.

And Ill never get the fans who say he is better then Lenny……Not in this offense he aint.

  9. allbuccedup Says:

You can get Darrell Williams for the same price not as fast but filled for Clyde in KC and did a good job and has got hands. Maybe Marlon Mack kick the tires.

  10. mark2001 Says:

I think Jones is talented. But don’t know his head was on straight all the time. There were times during the last year or two when you have to wonder what he was thinking.

  11. allbuccedup Says:

    James Connor?

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Adrian Peterson also couldn’t catch the ball either.

Just depends on what offense you run if that matters or not. But the real issue with Rojo was how he sort of collapsed. He was always a nutjob, go back to his draft night on ESPN when they showed him surrounded by a bunch of people in all-white suits, looked like a cult – go find the clip if you don’t believe me, why that never got any play I’ll never know. But anywho, going back to the point, going into this year it looked like Rojo would have a huge season, just feed him the ball, he’ll get you a 100 yards. Then after duking it out with Fournette and losing, he just sort of disappeared, and when he played he didn’t look like the same guy. I think mentally he’s a flake.

A real disappointed, however I’m not convinced he couldn’t go to somewhere like Tennessee, and in that offense, that he’d be ultra productive and everyone would say the Bucs were morons for letting him go for nothing.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

RoJo’s gone. Odds of re-signing Lenny probably less than 50%. Odds of re-signing Gio probably about the same. Leaves us with Vaughn (grand total of 62 rushes in 2 years) and Barner (grand total of 4 rushes in the last 2 years).

But have no fear, we’ve still got a Super Bowl roster.

  14. Bucs Guy Says:

No surprise here. If Fournette departs then I see Bucs re-signing Bernard, late round draft pick and veteran FA RB. If Fournette stays (I hope), then I see Bernard and an UFA.

  15. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Rojo seemed sour behind the scenes with coaches for some reason, I personally like how he ran, which was fast and hard, my only critique was what other said about blocking, but as a pure runner I like him better than Fournett, but fournette was a compete back in all phases so more valuable.

  16. David Says:

Not a surprise. Eventually a running back in a passing league and a passing offense needs to learn to block, run routes, and catch the ball.

  17. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Rod, you sure when you mention “white suits,” you’re not talking about your Klan uniform?

  18. Marine Buc Says:

    @ DR

    Lol.

I hope we can at least re-sign Gio…

  19. Ash Says:

This was not a surprise before the season was over seems like they were done with each other.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Alvin – I’m 2% African according to my DNA, I know the struggle my brother.

  21. SB Says:

Damien Pierce in the Third will be the steal of the draft. Can block, runs downhill and can catch even from the WR position.

  22. Marine Buc Says:

Fun fact – Rojo is #10 on the All Time leading Buc rushers list.

    Behind former Bucs:
    Eric Rhett
    Reggie Cobb
    Ricky Bell
    Michael Pittman
    Caddy Williams
    Doug Martin
    W. Dunn
    M Alstott
    James Wilder

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Marine – I just realized that I’ve seen 9 of 10 of them play in person, only one I never saw was Ricky Bell, but then again I feel like I saw him since I watched that God awful TV movie where Ricky Bell was played by Mario Van Peebles. Go search it out on YouTube if you’ve never seen it, it’s exceptionally awful.

  24. tampabayallday Says:

Letting him go is a good move.

  25. Biff Barker Says:

RoJo can motor, Too bad he was never really a fit here. He didn’t take advantage when he had the chance. Lenny did. We’ve all seen it. Time to part ways.

  26. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

ROJO comes from USC, nicknamed “Tailback University”, a running school.
He needs to go to a run first team like Seattle, The Colts, or the Titans.

  27. Tony Says:

I didn’t want the dude when he was first coming out.

  28. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Bring in Connor. He’s a fighter that already beat cancer. He’already a champion.

  29. Nano107 Says:

    Watch him improve somewhere else
    Coach killed his confidence

  30. Adrnagy Says:

Daniel jones to the bucs vis trade ? Whats up with that

  31. T REX Says:

    He was awful

  32. Adrnagy Says:

Daniel jones best games were against us. I wonder if hes a buc will he play like that all the time.
Pair him with evans. Godwin. Miller. And if he get gronk , also add a solid #3 wr. With vaughn , lenny

  33. Beeej Says:

Rojo’s head is messed up, he might be ok in a new town

  34. kgh4life Says:

    @ Rod Munch
Adrian Peterson wasn’t used to catch the football on many occasions because he was a elite runner. Great vision, new when to be patient, could make something out of nothing, and very physical, Ronald Jones isn’t any of those things, he’s just inconsistent.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

kgh4life – He’s not AD in his prime, but put him in, let’s say the Titans offense as a starter, and he’s getting you 1700 yards at 5.4ypc. He’s got good vision, is very physical, has very good acceleration and speed. This is a guy who got you nearly a 1000 yards at over 5-yards a pop in an offense where he wasn’t a full time player for most of the year and it’s hard to run the ball. Not sure what happened last year, but if he’s back in his 2020 form, someone gives him the ball for 20 carriers a game and has good run blocking, he’s going to put up some huge numbers. At the same time if you put him in a pass first offense and want him running screens and short routes, he’s not going to do well.

  36. FortMyersDave Says:

@ Rod Munch, yeah I remember that movie “Triumphs of the Heart”, made for TV CBS movie I believe. A big complaint from locals about the movie was that it was not even filmed in the Tampa area but in Houston. Definitely not worth anyone’s time. Ricky Bell was dealt a bad set of cards in life though, his medical condition was a horrible way to die…..

  37. Franco Says:

Bucs, will go 7 and 10 in 2022

  38. DarenGibo Says:

SO Rojo to the Titans where he can get some reps with McNichols! Titans stable filling up with our RBs who either couldn’t learn plays or didn’t have the heart to finish them.

  39. Architek Says:

    Goodbye.

  40. Eddie Marz Says:

RoJo was gone when he was here. His role dramatically reduced. Running back in a passing team. Should find a team that can use his skills.

  41. Listnfrmafar Says:

Pass blocking and catching can all be coached but apparently not on thus team. This guy WILL come back to haunt them. Just another lazy arse move by BA. FYI, James Conner ain’t going to the Bucs. If Lenny can get more money so can Conner. This team is in the same state as the Patriots, they will have to over pay for slightly above average players. The major difference is Pat’s had the cap space.

  42. Volbuc40 Says:

    Bye!!

  43. Bucsfanman Says:

I don’t wish ill will on anyone but what in the world are you people seeing that makes you think he’s going to “star” elsewhere?!
He started out AWFUL. The next year he was “serviceable”. In ’20 he actually “looked good” for a moment. This year, back to awful.
Lets not forget he was drafted in the 2nd round. So, not a single 1,000 yard season and a propensity for stepping out of bounds before the marker on top of being labeled and exhibiting being a “head case”?
Going to a “run team” is suddenly going to “fix” this guy?! Are you serious?!

He was a swing and a BIG MISS!

  44. NebraskaBuc Says:

Rojo was good at USC and had potential. Wrong coach, wrong offense. I’d wish him well but I remember an insta post of his quoting AB’s ‘rap’ song when Rojo felt like he was being under utilized toward the end of the season. Now I just want him gone.

  45. Jessie Says:

WTH It was an all white draft party ROJO has idiot!
