A New Tom Brady Contract Is In The Works

March 21st, 2022

Mr. Glazer, I think we can make Tommy happy.”

The concept of Tom Brady wanting more money for 2022 — and why — was a topic for NFL Network in late January.

The way the Bucs’ accountants structured everything left Brady with a paltry cash payout for the 2022 season, around $10 million. And then he retired and unretired.

So now what?

Today at One Buc Palace, general manager Jason Licht was asked about a new deal for Brady and acknowledged that one is in the works and it’s a priority. Hooray! But Licht did not get into specifics and wouldn’t comment when asked about Brady playing in 2023.

Joe didn’t expect Licht to reveal anything, but that contract will answer a lot of questions.

Will Brady restructure to help the Bucs’ salary cap but still ask for a freedom clause following the 2022 season, or will he be willing to sign off, effectively, on becoming a Buccaneer for what’s left of his football life? And be promised a fortune that approaches market value in return?

My guess would be he is going to get more but it will be spread out over a few years with his option to retire after this year. After the last couple months I can’t see him playing beyond this year but who knows

I thinkTom gets his 8th ring then hangs up the cleats. At that point he is out of fingers. Unless he wants the first tacky thumb ring…or toe ring???

  3. Casual Observer Says:

David – A good guess. Might play 2 years, though.

  4. Its a Bucs Life Says:

If the contract has an out clause then the rumblings of him not being happy with the semi retired, golf cart riding, too much drinkin, and not going to offensive meetings Arians are 1,000% true.

    LFG!!!!

  5. PC Says:

Tommy – How does the vet minimum plus 2% ownership share of ManU sound?

They resigned all of their free agents to multiyear deals. Makes sense for TB12 to follow along with them. The cap goes up every year barring a pandemic, so these deals ARE cap friendly when you consider the discounts they got in return. Not buying the drama, and if it were serious, I would have expected a coaching change. These guys all seem to be on the same page to me.

    This just in……Tom Brady signs a 5 year contract with three voided years….$5, $10, $20, $20, $20

  8. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Not a story here-Mike Greenberg knows exactly what he is doing and why.

  9. SOEbuc Says:

Fine by me. Trade back into the second for a second and fourth and get an OL with our first three picks. Donovan Smith is highly overrated and he wasn’t very good with all those years next to Ali, so now what’s going to happen with Ali retired. If anything get a backup OT to develop because 31 year old Josh Wells is garbage.

  10. Aaron Says:

Lol shady not worth it it’s over no more in Tampa

He wants to sling the rock dappered up in Creamsicle, he’ll be here in 23′

  15. ItzOK Says:

Pay him a 100 Million Guaranteed. Hes earned it. Who cares how you spread it out. This guy is playing three more seasons

  16. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

    Just pay the man.

Give TB whatever he wants. I would restructure his contract to have at least 2 years with bonus clauses. Also, I would offer him some sort of future senior position in the Bucs organization whether it is in the front office or some sort of partial ownership. It would be immeasurable to have TB around as a tide that raises all boats even if he isn’t on the field of play. Go Bucs. Go Canes.

Aaron – I know exactly what you are !! You smell as bad as the city you root for and you have nothing better to do then obsess over the Bucs and MVP QB TOM BRADY. Your really a Bucs fan that just hasn’t come out the closet yet. I know that I don’t waste my time reading about the smelly AINTS. So either get a life or just admit your a Bucs fan cuz you spend too much time on Joe’s site and who knows what others you’re stalking.. Go Bucs and I can’t wait to watch the AINTS fight for the number 1 pick next season
