“We Don’t Have To Beat The Crap Out Of Anyone”

January 10th, 2022

Bucs receiver speaks out

Bucs fans have gotten so darn spoiled that they want style points. Victories are not enough.

Joe’s often guilty.

That’s what happens when your team has won 21 of its last 25 games.

Perspective was delivered today by Bucs receiver Cyril Grayson. Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network this evening, Grayson said this season is “not as glamorous” as what the Bucs experienced in their run to the playoffs in 2020. However, the team doesn’t care and has a singular focus on winning.

“We don’t have to beat the crap out of anyone,” Grayson said calmly.

Joe cracked a smile. It’s very true. Winning big or playing consistently for 60 minutes per game are great, but it’s not what matters most. That said, Grayson knows (as does Joe) that the Bucs must clean up their act to thrive in the playoffs.

“We got a bad habit right now of starting kind of slow. Hopefully we can get that together,” Grayson said.

Amen to that.

Joe is not expecting a perfect Bucs performance Sunday against the Eagles, not with guys like Shaq Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul, Leonard Fournette and others returning to the lineup after extended layoffs. But that’s ok. The Bucs just have to shake off some rust and grind out a win, and the Eagles are a very flawed opponent.

As Grayson said, “We don’t have to beat the crap out of anyone.”

    Yes you do;
    this dude got BIG mouth.
Yes you do, when your D gives up more then 24 points most of the games…you can’t keep it close, cause you lose….
big mouth kid… don’t like it.

  2. alton d green Says:

I think we should start at halftime. Maybe we wouldn’t have as many injuries also

  3. SlyPirate Says:

    Eagles Factoid:
Eagles 9 wins came against teams with losing records

  4. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

How is it he has a big mouth? People get so sensitive over what people say. All he’s saying is he’s confident in his team that they can win even close games which we have quite a few. The defense has struggled some but also has made some excellent stops. If we stop or at least slow down their running immensely in the beginning and force them to throw Philly can’t win. They can come close like last time but not enough. Doesn’t matter if they give up 24, if offense gets 30 or more automatic win for the home team! We have Tom Effin Brady boi! Never count us out! Especially since Nawleans are not in the playoffs.

  5. PassingThru Says:

I think the Bucs fans are more concerned with the team looking unprepared or unfocused, especially early in games, and that the team plays down to the level of competition. This is aside from the ongoing injury woes.

  6. Walter Says:

It’s true, winning is never enough anymore, now if we don’t win by 20 I’m usually left nitpicking. Standards have definitely changed around here

  7. Ron says Says:

Generally, it is about controlling a team and the flow of the game but with that said if you are not up by a considerable amount the flow of the game can change quickly as it did for the Jets against us. Our advantage and disadvantage are we are always attacking aggressively so we can go 3 and out and put the defense back on the field with little rest allowing other teams to run a slow and controlling offense keeping our defense out on the field and increasing injuries. It would be nice to get a lead and be able to run a very controlling offense that can run out the time.

  8. HC Grover Says:

    All wins work for me.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    Just play.

    And how’s his hammy?

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Rust won’t be a problem with those three players……JPP, Shaq & Lenny…..if anything, the rest will make them stronger……

  11. Youngbucs Says:

21-25 you would think these trolls would’ve given up by now. They’re a special kind of stupid!!!!

  12. Ed Says:

Key numbers from regular season. Bucs match up well vs Eagles other than running the football. Mainly because Hurts ran for 800 yards from QB position.

    Eagles + 2 less turnovers
Eagles + 1000 more rushing yards
    Bucs + 13 more touchdowns
    Bucs + 67 more points
Bucs + 1800 more passing yards
    Bucs + 184 more completions
    Bucs + 18 more sacks

Another living room expert ignoring the fact they won a Super Bowl then followed that up with an even better record, the second best in the NFL and are close to the top of the league in offensive and defensive categories. Yet a guy who played and was instrumental in wins is being called a loudmouth because someone who didn’t even star in little league doesn’t like his opinion…. SMDH

  14. Buc4evr Says:

Just hope LVD is able to go. Philly has the best running attack this year and we have dropped to 15 in run defense. Lvd is sorely needed. Also, on O, I agree with those are saying go no huddle early and go after their secondary from the first play. None of this scripted BL baloney, wasting an entire 1st quarter. Let big Mike and Gronk run free and use Scotty on trick plays.

  15. Lesko_Brandon Says:

We pay a lot of money to watch the Bucs beat the crap out of everybody. 🤬

  16. HC Grover Says:

Plan A bet the crap out of the Eagles/

  17. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

“This kid has a big mouth.” Really? its his 2nd press conference in 8 years. Yes he’s 28 years old. Same age as Mike Evans.

  18. Francisco Guzman Says:

Any news on Grayson? I feel like the bucs should cover the number. We shall see.

  19. firethecannons Says:

focus on every single play make sure to understand every play and what your job is, do your job and keep it up till the whistle blows know how to avoid penalties and don’t let up play each play as if lives are dependent on the outcome beating the crap outta somebody will lead to a penalty beat your opponent clean and thorough and continuously till the whistle blows and then keep doing it till the confetti rains

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Really concerned with our last 2 slow starts. I think we ger playoff Lenny back this week. That helps, White seems to play better when David is on the field. Hope he returns with Shaq as well.

Maybe give less or none of your money to a party who does nothing for you🤔.
And before you respond with silly rhetoric give an honest policy that’s beneficial to you they have none. They have no agenda just hate rhetoric and divisions. I know the dumb tax bill didn’t help you it only benefited corporations and the top 400 wealthiest families in the country delusional fools.

  22. Jmarkbuc Says:

At one point yesterday I believe Carolina had run 23 plays. We had run 3. There are slow starts, and there is sucking on both sides of the ball to start a game.

Fortunately we have the GOAT, but I think that’s a crutch we use waayyy to much

  23. Tackleblockwin Says:

More concerned about our D. Our O usually figures things out and gets hot.

  24. Buccaneric Says:

Hah! Cyril is right. Everyone sounds like patriots fans during the last twenty years, whining about wins.

    It’s Brady effect.

  25. Mike C Says:

I would gladly accept four one point wins in a row, well said young man.

  26. PanhandleBuc Says:

It’s gonna catch up with us at some point! Now is the time to but together 60 freaking minutes of championship football!!

  27. Aceofaerospace Says:

And keep in mind, JPP has never lost a playoff game.

  28. David Says:

    CRAZYBUC

He’s absolutely right. You just need to win. And the defense gives up 20 points a game and has given up less points than any other NFC team in the playoffs.
In fact, the only teams in the playoff that have given up less are the bills and patriots, two teams they beat.
I know the defense takes a lot of heat but they played most the season without their secondary, half the year without LVD, and all year without one of their best pass rushers because of a torn rotator cuff etc.
They are still getting the job done

  29. Eckwood Says:

I definitely like Vaughn running better than Lenny

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

    David

Defense wins Championships, and we’re going to need some. Hopefully getting guys back will make it easier to get off to a good start. Just one, maybe two good stops to begin each half might be all we need. 12 might mute drives against us won’t cut it.

I believe we will get it done this week. Need Ronde to lead us out of the tunnnel in his jersey🤣.

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

    *12 minute drives

  32. SKBucsFan Says:

As Bucs fans we haven’t had a lot of opportunity to watch them beat the crap out of others. I want to see it while i can. The only thing better would be to do it against our division.

  33. PassingThru Says:

I’m surprised people buy into this narrative. Frankly I don’t care if the Bucs win by 1, or win by 30. Just win, escape with no injuries, and advance to the next round.

  34. August 1976 Buc Says:

“We don’t have to beat the crap out of anyone,” Grayson said calmly.

Contrast this mentality to what Brady says and does lol.

The next Morning after winning SB LV and Brady is texting Clyde about how they can do this or that about the 2022 season

It is about excellence. Like Vince Lombardi would say
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

You always aim at perfection knowing there really is no way to be perfect in reality, but will be in a better position to accomplish your goals.

Again, just think about how meticulous Brady is, rep after rep to be the best he can be in the moment of any situation on the field during a game.

So okay you do not have to beat the crap out of everyone,
BUT that is what you are practicing TO do and HOW you APPROACH EVERY play IN the game.

As we know 2nd place is the first loser, and average is the enemy of greatness.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  35. Steven007 Says:

Crazy reminds me of constipated Pete. Hell Bent on getting the first comment in with something typically trollish. Typical internet rules generally state don’t feed the troll. But it’s kind of fun when an obviously idiotic comment gets stomped on repeatedly.

    JOE

Have you seen the video of the Bucs watching the 49ers win?!? Great stuff

  38. Joe Says:

Have you seen the video of the Bucs watching the 49ers win?!? Great stuff

Yeah, thought it was kind of boring. But Joe’s not into watching dudes watching TV (which is sort of why he’s not into the ManningCast).

  39. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I like panhandle Buc-Now is the time. We are going to face som physical teams after this game. I think being physical and dominating the Eagles could give us a head of steam moving forward. I think our players psyches need it. So let’s take it to the Eagles and jam it down their throat and do it again the following week. Go Bucs!!!

  40. Lefty Says:

“Yeah, thought it was kind of boring. But Joe’s not into watching dudes watching TV (which is sort of why he’s not into the ManningCast).“

Total jacka$$ response. Pretty awesome to see the real time reaction of the players considering the benefit of an SF win. Not cool Joe. As hard as you may try, you’re not cool Joe.

  41. PassingThru Says:

Refs doing their best to hand the game to Alabama. Not sure how you can rule the Georgia ball a fumble, it looked more like a pass attempt than the earlier Alabama “incomplete” pass.

  42. David Says:

    PassingThru

It sure seems like every questionable call has gone against Georgia and every questionable call against Bama they don’t call….

Regardless Georgia is winning in the trenches today.

  43. David Says:

    Joe

    Fair enough

  44. David Says:

I believe Brock Bowers, TE Georgia, is a red shirt freshman. So I think he can be drafted in two years.

Dude is a beast and is probably still growing. He’s going to be baby Gronk

  45. Rod Munch Says:

PassingThru – I have zero dawg in the fight (get it?!?!), and that was clearly a fumble. Ball was loose, coming out, before the ball is coming forward, clear recovery inbounds.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Hopefully the entire state of Georgia will be burned down in celebration.

  47. SOEbuc Says:

I swear I’ve made it of something to constantly not be hearing Lavonte name talking about our injured list.

-Is he expected to be back round one?
-What kind of shape will JPP be in?

  48. Eric Says:

hey we could always get Raheem or Schiano back if folks don’t like prosperity.

  49. David Says:

    BULLDOGS!!!

Yes, I am a gators fan but I really wanted them to knock off Bama. I was disgusted by the SEC championship game because Georgia had one of the best defenses I’ve ever seen in college and they showed up tonight. Heck there were a whole lot of NFL players on that field from both teams.

hey we could always get Raheem or Schiano back if folks don’t like prosperity.

    —–

Dirk is available for another run.

But don’t put Raheem in that group of turds. Raheem got screwed out of a playoff game by the refs, with a team that was not very talented. He got a lot out of some bad teams, should have been given more time, but the Bucs thought they had locked up Chip Kelly, and after he accepted the job, then backed out, and the Bucs scrambled to get someone, Belichick recommended Schiano, since he know Schiano was an idiot and a Belichick fanboy and would do stuff like give him Talib and Blount for nothing.

  51. Sparky Says:

If someone can’t even correctly do the math of 353 points / 17 games = 20.7 points per game, the rest of what they say can safely be ignored.

  52. adam from ny Says:

he shouldn’t talk much if he’s not going to be playing sunday…

    that said…

    i hope he plays sunday

  53. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

    Just win BABY!

  54. Listnfrmafar Says:

ANONYMOUS, living in the past. Joe saw the locker room video, is it me or did Brady look really frail and old? Obviously he doesn’t play that way.

  55. Anonymous Says:

    It’s just you!

  56. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I for one expect us to win this game on Sunday. Whether it’s by one point or twenty-four I cannot say. Just as a year ago I really don’t know what to expect other than a win!

Brady is playing lights out as a quarterback and has his rhythm. He knows his teammates, his OC, his playbook and the terminology. He has weaved his magic by his example with the younger professionals. He has emphasized over and over again in his public pronouncements that football is a team sport. What more can he do?

Everything is is place as far as what the injury bug and the pandemic will allow.

Go Bucs! One at a time!
