Teddy Bridgewater Watch Is On

January 29th, 2022

Still enamored?

With Tom Brady now retiring, it’s important to remember how fixated Bucco Bruce Arians appeared to be the last time he was looking behind the dreaded door No. 2 for a quarterback to replace the Buccaneers’ human turnover machine.

Arians openly expressed his interest and appreciation for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who eventually signed a hearty contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Bridgewater, 29, was traded to the Broncos after the 2020 season and had a solid 2021 after playing for yet another offensive coordinator. He was 7-7 as a starter, completing 67 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Bridgewater had an above average running game to complement him and his passing was decent with a meh receiving corps.

So the question today is whether Arians still has a thing for Bridgewater. Joe suspects Arians does, no matter what you may think of the former Vikings first-round pick.

Don’t get it twisted. This isn’t Joe lobbying for Bridgewater, just Joe noting that there’s a veteran guy on the market who the big boss likes, and he won’t break the bank or require draft picks to acquire.

    Absolutely fkn not!

  5. Hodad Says:

Rather roll with Trask. Teddy is garbage.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

Could be. At this stage all options are open.

I hope that the Raiders continue plummeting into the sewer and let Derek Carr go. I’dd feel good about him coming to the Bucs.

  7. Killian Says:

    Get the hell outta here!

  8. Swampbuc Says:

    Anyone but Goovert and Trashk.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

No one with an IQ over 12 wants a weak armed, afraid to throw the ball, no talent, 5-12, Bridgewater here.

The guy is a coward who is afraid to throw the ball, who cares more about his stat line than winning, and there’s people that want this natural born loser that lost his starting job the last 2 seasons to come here?

    You’re nuts.

Bridgewater stinks, he’s only just good enough to make sure you don’t get the #1 pick in the draft, that’s all he’s good for.

I’d gladly take my chances with Trask.

  10. westernbuc Says:

If Licht and Arians went behind door 2 for Bridgewater they’d be unemployed right now.

Broncos have solid receivers in Jeudy, Patrick, and Sutton, yet Bridgewater never used them.

  11. Cchead Says:

    Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  12. Anthony Says:

I have never made a comment here ever before, only read them, but here is my first…OH HELL NO. Would rather risk the tank with starting Trask than have Teddy lead us to 8 wins max.

  13. Cchead Says:

Bridgewater won’t put asses in the seats.

  14. Beeej Says:

Bridgewater = Tua with bad knees

  15. Chuck T Says:

This team is going to go to the dumpster.

  16. Dan in largo Says:

Go with trash. Build around him. Very short term growing pains for fans. Been here since 1980. How much can it be worse. I’m 63 and can wait a little bit 🤪

  17. SKBucsFan Says:

Ummm. How about Aarin Rodgers? What other team that needs a qb is more assured to win its division and would instantly stay Superbowl contenders?

  18. MarkV Says:

I’d rather make a run at reuniting with Jameis

  19. Dan in largo Says:

    I meant trask

  20. Bojim Says:

Rodgers may be a drama queen but he’s a damn good QB.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

    TEDDY. TEDDY, TEDDY!!! jk

Doesnt this iffense need a big arm QB. Dont ever recall Bridgewater slinging the ball. Did I miss?

  22. WillieG Says:

No. Please no. Dude looks like he’s throwing an anvil, not a football. Get someone with a brain AND strong arm. I’d prefer Russell Wilson, or maybe Aaron Rodgers…….Maybe. Carr is another option I’d prefer to Bridgewater.

I’d say Wilson, Carr, Rodgers, Trask……

  23. BuccaneerScotty Says:

y’all are crazy its going to be Trask period get over all your door #2 stuff that’s why we took him in the 2nd round last year !

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Packers would never trade Rodgers inside the NFC… unless Rodgers forced their hand. It would take some contract magic to make it work, but the Bucs could do it.

If you went the Rodgers route, then you’re keeping as many guys as possible, and again, cap magic would be required, but I’d love it.

But I think it’s all dreaming. We must remember this is the Buccaneers, the most losing franchise in the history of all sports, and all of us non-bandwagon Bucs fans who grew up wearing our orange jackets to school every Monday know that this last 2-years has been the exception to the rule. So while it’s nice to think, hey, maybe we keep this going, we’re the Buccaneers… I mean, really, enjoy what we had while we had it and we’ll now have to go from dating supermodels back to the toothless 50-year old homeless woman…

  25. Destinjohnny Says:

    4-13

  26. Your Mom Says:

This would be what, his SIXTH team? Yikes.

I mean I guess if you were happy about Josh “Butters” McCown, or Ryan Fitzpatrick, or Josh Johnson, that would probably sound okay.

TBH I’d rather give Trask a chance.

  27. BuccaneerScotty Says:

he was great at Florida and will be here also you will see 👀 Go bucs

  28. Beeej Says:

Rodgers would play a year or 2, then we’re right back here again. I think Jameis might be interesting. I remember Arians saying after 2019 that absent Teddy or Brady, he was happy to stick with Jameis

  29. bucfan999 Says:

Please God NO to Captain checkdown. Hasn’t Bridgewater proven the last 2 years that he is not a high end quality starting QB? He is what he is, a quality backup, nothing more.

  30. Chimichango Says:

    To soon joe

  31. HC Grover Says:

    Nooooo! Arians ….get him out.

  32. webster Says:

    Arians does not want bridgewater

  33. Rod Munch Says:

If Brady didn’t become available, the team was resigning Winston. All the Bridgewater garbage is speculation, the guy is a born loser who doesn’t make plays. Winston, meanwhile, was put in that same Saints offense, with NO NFL level WRs or TEs, and was 5-2 and had the same QBr as Brady.

If the team can’t get a Rodgers, a Wilson or Watson, then Winston is the obvious choice. He fits into the cap, it can be a one-year deal, it makes all the sense in the world if you want to try to win and Arians sticks around.

If the team just wants to take their cap hit and get all the contracts cleaned up, then they should play Trask and see what happens, understanding that most likely it’s a trainwreck.

Under no circumstance should they sign a limp-armed coward like Bridgewater.

  34. Big pirate Says:

Please no.. we’ve seen teddy. He’s a noodle arm and he’s not good. Rather have trask

  35. Bucsfan57 Says:

    Aaron Roger’s

  36. SufferingSince76 Says:

Looks like my Sundays are going to be free again. 🤨

  37. Steven007 Says:

Rod, on your earlier post I’m with you in spirit but we did have a pretty nice run at the end of the 90s and early 2000s. It hasn’t just been the last two years.

  38. Miller5252 Says:

Hey Joe, I think if you’re gonna speculate about a new possible QB coming to Tampa it should be better then Bridgewater. Maybe write Josh Allen might be traded or Mahomes is unhappy in KC or something really cool besides Bridgewater! Haha 😂 Man, we can’t go from Brady to Bridgewater!! Please no!!!

  39. mark2001 Says:

You Rodgers guys know nothing about him. He will want top dollar to play anywhere, because he is a diva, who expects to be paid big to stroke his ego. And we would lose almost every FA guy we have this year and sign… nobody else. Forget him.

  40. mark2001 Says:

    Mahomes? Pass the pipe, man.

  41. Steven007 Says:

Michael silver just reported that Brady himself called our GM and informed him that he hasn’t made a decision yet…

  42. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Fake news…..

  43. Miller5252 Says:

@mark2001 you must have missed my point…. I was just saying instead of saying Bridgewater story, let’s just put some good names out there so we don’t have to be more depressed hearing Bridgewater is a possibility.

  44. Rod Munch Says:

Steven007 – of course, but that 97-02 run was organic, it was a slow build going back to 95 really. I loved that run, it’s still the best run ever by the Bucs, because it was all about the team drafting well and building within.

These last 2-years have been fantastic, but they really have been more about Brady than the Bucs, and it feels more like a fling that you knew was doomed. I have no issues with that since the fling was with a supermodel, but you knew it wasn’t going to last, so it has less emotional attachment, at least to me.

  45. mark2001 Says:

Miller…too early for “good names”. Maybe if a poor team that will be drafting a QB that currently has a young QB that they don’t think will hit, who has just been poorly coached, could be traded for to compete with Trask. And let them compete to start. I don’t want to go through this again in two years.

  46. Free agent Says:

I just went and brushed the dust off that bottle of liquor that had been in the back of the closet the last two years. That bottle said to me “Told you, you would be back”

  47. YuctoBucs Says:

Name one QB from the Gators that went to the NFL and won or had a winning season ? Carr to Evans. Godwin, and Miller could be a solid connection and I’m going to predict Gronk comes back even without Tom because he loves it here !! Go Bucs and over hearing about TB12 and thanks for helping us win the SB !!

  48. Not Teddy Says:

I threw up a little in my mouth when I read the title of this article. No way, I would rather have Kyle Trash be our QB.

  49. Buc You Says:

LOL Joe….. you have ALWAYS loved Teddy B. 🤣🤣🤣

  50. Buc You Says:

And…. Rodgers would never come to Tampa guys…. and follow in Brady’s footsteps?

  51. alvinscissorsharper Says:

Rodgers is too expensive. Wilson is probably too expensive. Carr might work. I would rather have the Trask experiment than Teddy B. I don’t agree with Munch very often, but he’s right here.

  52. OBP Says:

There is absolutely nothing Bridgewater could offer us that Trask can’t. Give the kid a shot and if he stinks he stinks but if he doesn’t we just found our QB.

  53. Robert L Anderson Says:

    AARON RODGERS

Take his two receivers as he wants and bring the Lombardi home again.
Let it be said, let it be written.

  54. Jersey buc Says:

No thanks to 10 yard teddy!!!
    Hell NO!!!

  55. Tye Says:

I’d trust the ‘Red Rifle’ Dalton WAY More than fragile Teddy… Dalton likely plays all season…
And I don’t like Dalton as a QB!

  56. CalBucsFan Says:

GM Licht has been building a promising team over the last 5 years, even had the No. 1 pick to draft the best QB of the class when he got Winston. Unfortunately it didn’t go well, great arm and talented athlete, but….

TB has played like a champion chess player his entire career, seemed like he was always 3-4 plays ahead of next play, setting up the defense like a master gamer.

Winston?….he plays more like he’s a checkers player, gambling on each snap more than dissecting a defense. And there’s no doubt Arians bombs away approach hurt him, more than helped him.

The core group that Licht has built is still here, there’s a lot of talent on this team, with or without TB, and they’ve all tasted success and learned how to be successful because of him. So if TB has truly retired, THANK YOU TB12, I WILL BE FOREVER GREATFUL! Now, let’s see what Trask can do after sitting in the QB Room for a full year behind the GOAT. He’s proven at the college level he is quite talented, I say let’s give him a chance to show he can be at the pro-level as well. Go Bucs!

  57. Mike Johnson Says:

I’d go with Watson over Bridgewater. And Rodgers over them all. But Rodgers ain’t comin to Tampa, the Seattle guy will be way to expensive. Watson might be the best fit. Besides its rumored he loves those Gents clubs. Tampa got plenty of those.

  58. Ron Says:

**** We need a scrambling QB…thats what the league us turning to. Burrow..Mahomes, Allen…..I’d say if we could swung Wilson..or Watson…Id go for that

  59. John Says:

    Minshew!!!

  60. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am down with getting Jameis back, or even Trask, but not Bridgewater.

  61. Allen Pound Says:

TEDDY WILL BE JUST FINE IF YOU PUSH BACK THE DEFENSIVE BACKS 10 to 15 YARDS FROM THE RECEIVERS LIKE WAS DONE FOR CHEATING TOM BRADY “STINKING CHEATER”

  62. Corey S. Says:

Did you really say the Broncos receiving core is meh??? Smh

  63. Buccaneer bob Says:

Brady not going no where just yet!

  64. alaskabuc Says:

Bring back Winston or Fitzpatrick, shoot even start Trask. No Teddy! I don’t know how the NFL’s biggest check down artist would ever be successful in BA’s offense. Bridgewater has had plenty of time to prove at best that he is a stop gap that makes Mike Glennon look like Don Coryell.

  65. Buczilla Says:

Bridgewater sucks and I’d almost rather have Jameis back. If we are not competing for a playoff spot in 2022, I’d rather be competing for the number one pick in 2023. Re-sign Godwin and Whitehead, then let everyone else walk. Carlton would be nice to get back too, but he’s not worth top corner money with his resume.

  66. Hondo Says:

    Brady’s not retiring

  67. MRRR Says:

If Brady retires here are 2 qb’s who are good and we can afford:. Tyler Huntley and Gardner Minshew. I do believe we would have to make a trade to get them
    Probably a 3rd round pick.

  68. Justin Says:

If Brady retires, they need to go all out for Rogers, Adams will follow and that’s good cause Godwin is leaving as well.

  69. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Teddy = no thanks. Winston = that bridge was burned. Bucs invested a late round 2 pick in Trask, so I’d say if Tom does officially retire it’s time to see if Kyle can be the guy or not. Swing for greatness again in free agency if a franchise QB is available or give Kyle his shot over veteran game managers.
