Please Blitz Tom Brady

January 14th, 2022

“You think they’re that dumb, TB?”

So how will Tom Brady pick the Eagles apart on Sunday at The Licht House?

Longtime Eagles beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks has strong opinions on that subject. In a piece typed for WIP radio’s website, Shorr-Parks rolls out the data on why the Eagles shouldn’t blitz Tom Brady, including how unsuccessful Philadelphia was when they blitzed Brady in October.

An Eagles defensive game plan of dropping seven defenders back and hoping their front-four get pressure might not be fun to watch, but it might be the most effective, even against a very good Buccaneers offensive line. The Eagles didn’t blitz much all season. They finished the regular season 31st in the NFL in blitzing. Part of that is because of personnel. They don’t really have any great athletes to blitz with. The main reason is they don’t want to get burned on the blitz, and instead want to make teams go 8, 9, 10 plays to try to score on them.

This is all putting a big smile on Joe’s face. Joe can’t wait to see Brady surgically dissect the Eagles on Sunday.

The Bucs are down Chris Godwin and bitter Antonio Brown, but they’re still stocked with weapons behind a great offensive line.

Do we know if Perriman is healthy & playing?…….I actually believe he could be a key weapon because Gronk & Evans will be double-teamed.

Tom will take what the defense gives him….short passes, running & the occasional bomb…..maybe one to Scotty this week.

The Eagles will lose but it is just the beginning for the Eagles. They have 51 players under contract for ’22, $13M in cap space, and 3x1st round picks. Excited to watch them play.

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Eagles and their no name coach are going to lose Sunday.
Tampa has been the end of the line for the Eagles before, and it will be the same story on Sunday.
    It is called Elimination.
We may not make it all the way to the Super Bowl this year, but it will not be the Eagles who stop us.

Shorr parks is the biggest eagles homer I’ve ever heard. Like I said I live 15 mins from Philly. This dude is always on wip drinking green kool- aid and wearing his green goggles

They should blitz brady. It’s just about their only chance. Especially early and hope for an INT then ground and pound.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

If they are dropping seven that also should open up the run game. Need at least 100 ground yards and 300 passing yards to win.

Quick passes, Leftwurst! Then play action bomb their azz a few times — Hello Scotty?!

I think our easiest schedule would be Philly, then Arizona and SF at home.
I hate the thought of playing Dallas or LA at home next.

LA gives me the heeby jeebies.

I think Brady gets it done fairly easily this week because if they do drop 7 we will run successfully.
Brady is not like Maholmes were it took half the season to learn how to play against 2 high safeties.

No risk it needs to take a back seat this week if they play 2 high.
I’m tired of the 30 yard passes when we are at 3rd and 3.

I bet this will be our beloved OC first play, 1st and 10, screen pass to Evans, gains 3 yards. 2nd and 7, Brady hands the ball to Fournette, 2 yards gain. 3rd and 5, long toss to Tyler Johnson, drop pass. There you go, 3 and out in the first play and punt due to wind and rain only 30 yards. GO BUCS!!!!

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

The teams that gave the Bucs the most trouble is the rush 4 drop 7 defenses. The Bucs run game isn’t that great, with inexperienced receivers this could be a problem.

  10. Ben green Says:

Brady’s ability to beat blitzes comes down to two things. First, his ability to identify blitzers and to change the protection accordingly. Second, he gets rid of the ball ridiculously fast. Depending on the metric you use, as fast or faster than he ever has. LF has been key for Brady, as a hot reciever. The game could come down to his health and effectiveness in the passing game. Where Brady is susceptible to blitzes, it usually comes from up the middle. If Ben were the eagles, he’d take his best two pass, and put them over the center and guard, and give that a try.
Be. Doesn’t expect this from Philadelphia. They’ll more than likely flood the middle, and make Tommy beat them on the outside. Without Godwin and Brown, Evans and gronk will get huge attention in this game. Brady will need one of the kids to step up.

    work on our defense. PERIOD

Other than Week 18 against Dallas, the prior 9 weeks the Eagles have played against either rookies, back-up QB’s or garbage QB’s. But Tampa’s given up 100+ rushing past 2 weeks and Sam frickin’ Darnold was effective running RPO’s against ’em last week. Don’t feel great about this game coming in; a bit concerned.

  16. John Olmstead Says:

Blitzing and taking away passes over the middle is how New Orleans beat Brady twice.
