Mike Evans Explosion Coming?

January 16th, 2022

Big game today?

In the win over the Stinking Panthers last week, Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans had a monster catch-and-run near the end of the first half on a touchdown drive that gave the Bucs the lead for good.

Evans, believe it or not, has detractors among Bucs fans and their biggest gripe seems to be he doesn’t get a lot of YAC (boy, talk about nitpicking). He sure did on that play.

So Joe was looking at the first Eagles game and Evans didn’t have that great of a night. Part of it was the Bucs had their full arsenal of receivers. Furniture-tossing, bicycle-winging, tantrum-throwing quitter Antonio Brown had 94 yards, and Godwin and Evans had pedestrian numbers.

But with Brown and Godwin gone, Joe has a hunch if the Bucs launch the ball much today, Evans will be a key target. And why shouldn’t he? He’s one of the best of his generation.

Joe has suggested that for every 1,000-yard season Evans adds to his resume, he gets all the closer to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Evans is right there on the doorstep of Canton, based on his numbers.

Every receiver who has had 75 touchdowns and 9,000 yards in his first eight seasons, which Evans has, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Well, except Evans. Because he is still playing.

Joe would not be shocked at all if Evans blows up today.

Only makes sense. They will need him to be focal point of the offense to win.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I can’t understand and never understood how there could be Evans detractors.

They must be just simply negative persons & certainly questionable fans.

    What’s not to like…..he is a total beast….catches the ball even when covered…..get’s beaten up badly & still plays…..never complains….is unselfish….a great Buc & community citizen…..

    Viva Mike!!!

  3. Roy T. Buford Says:

The rain is done! We got the southern portion of the storm so it’s about gone entirely. Got some wind straight from the west, but that’s it. Probably not a lot of fades or other high-lofted passes which is just fine for this offense. Let’s also see what Leveon Bell can do with Vaughn…

  4. Tim Says:

Obviously the Eagles are going to try to double up on Evans, which should give some opportunities to Gronk, Brate, Perriman. Tommy should still be able to spread the ball around, but no doubt Evans will get his targets. Seems like he always gets at least 4 or 5 catches, maybe 70-100 yards and at least 1 TD in games like these. Dude is solid as they come.

  5. Tackleblockwin Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Evans is gonna be our first drafted offensive player to make the HOF one day. The pace he is on is remarkable, and this playoff year he can add to his legacy. Let’s go Mike!

  6. Tackleblockwin Says:

    @ Tampabaybucfan

    I agree 100%.

    @ Roy T. Buford

It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day for a Bucs win!

    @Tim

I think your spot on about the Eagles focusing on Mike. He still is going to get his looks though.

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Evans will be pumped up today. And we’ve seen what an ‘energized’ Mike Evans looks like from time to time. Remember the play last year where he literally drug 3 defenders about 10 yards into the end zone? That was one of the best football plays I have ever seen. Right up there with a couple Allstott runs in similar circumstances where the A Train would not be denied…..

I expect we will see at least a couple examples of ‘intensity’ from Big Mike today!

    Go BUCS!!!!

  8. Bob in valrico Says:

Mike’s catch and run gave us critical field position to set up the go ahead touchdown. Without that play i don’t think we would have gotten the go ahead touchdown at the end of the first half. Hope to see Mike lined up on right side
    some today also.

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Just as long as SOMEONE blows up today for us on offense AND defense.

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

If the Eagles are stupid enough not to double Mike, they will pay for it.
And, if they do double him, Brady will simply find the open receiver.
It is hard for me to believe some of the worry and pessimism I have been reading lately.
We have Tom Brady, the greatest QB ever to play this game.
Relax everybody, this is not the LA Rams or KC Chiefs we are playing today, it is only the Philadelphia Eagles, who we have beat before.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

“Joe would not be shocked at all if Evans blows up today.” Hopefully, in a good way.

No doubt what jersey I’m wearing today!

  12. Aceofaerospace Says:

Did the Medicated one OD, or has he just lost interest since his saints were eliminated?

  13. Coburn Says:

Pickgrin I remember that play very we. The defender bad blown mike up on a catch near the sideline and looked to be taunting him. I remember saying that’s a bad move, you don’t want an angry Mike… Was I think the very next play where he just refused to go down

  14. orlbucfan Says:

I agree that ME13 will be the first Bucs offensive player inducted in Canton. He has put up with a lot, all the losing in his first seasons. He never complained, never made an azz of himself. Just a classy dude like LVD. He can play in bad weather, too. Is he 100% healed with that hammy?

  15. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Nah, all that day means not ring cuz ME13 is a “bum”, he can’t run routes, he’s not trusted by TB12, he can be consistent…blah, blah, blah…fill in any other BS dribble spewed by ignoramuses on this here BUCS site over the years!
MIKE EVANS IS ONE OF THE BEST RECEIVERS IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE SINCE HE’S ARRIVED HIS ROOKIE YEAR…PERIOD!!!!

  16. David Says:

I hate the YAC nitpicking. He’s not a slasher. He’s not the shifty quick type of receiver that breaks the tackle and gets 15 extra.
He’s a large target with great hands who is a possession receiver essentially. He’s going to get the first down, he’s going to be a big target in the end zone. He rarely runs the slant across the middle or the in routes that potentially result in YAC.
He just simply produces year after year after year. He gets the first downs he gets the touchdowns.

The eagles know how comfortable Brady is with Gronk so I would not be surprised if Evans has a couple big plays because Gronk is the one drawing the safety over top.

    LFG

  17. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Evans isn’t the greatest of the greatest but get it straight he’s great. Without a doubt the greatest ever ever drafted. Last week they finally did what I’ve said before, throw him some slants and crossing routes and he got some good YAC. I remember one moron in last week’s open thread after he caught his 1st slant saying Evans doesn’t know the meaning of YAC even though he was bobbing and weaving through all the defenders trying to tackle him and making them miss. He got more YAC than if he would’ve kept running in the direction his route took him. Probably one of the clowns who’ve said we should trade him the last few seasons.

  18. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

    Any Evans detractor can GTFO.

  19. Swampbuc Says:

Would love to see Leftwurst put Evans in motion more and move him in and out of the slot.

  20. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

I love ME. He is a beast. However, I am one of those individuals that hates when a man as large as him falls down as quickly & as easily as he does. He is often looking for the ground upon completion. Sorry, that’s frustrating. He is leaving yards on the field. We hate it when Rojo or anybody else chooses the sideline or the ground in leau of gaining more yardage. Why should he get a pass? (No pun intended.)

There is an obvious difference between plays that are routine & “angry runs” like last week’s. Imagine if he ran that way with every completion! He could bully any DB & sometimes two of them but, most of the time he CHOOSES not to! Have you ever seen Gronk do anything other than fight for every inch? Nit-picking?! Moving the ball down the field is their purpose and gaining yardage is how that mission is accomplished.

I’ve said this many times before; if I had ME’s body, you’d need an elephant gun to ground me! I only wish ME felt the same way.

With that said, I hope he catches 15 for 220 yards & 3 tuddies today. Filthadelphia would be fools not to double him.

    Go Bucs!

  21. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

Agree bucksbebac great receiver, classy guy,, just the eye test you see is him not fighting for Xtra yards,,no nitpicking, just a observation,,mb that’s a good thing,, keeping him from injury,, not a detractor,,and I thought he had the record for most 1000 yard seasons,,or is that a record for most to start a career,, that said love ME, hope he goes off

  22. bucsfanfromNE Says:

7 for 78 so far for ME,, having a great game
