Devin White Already Locked In On 2022

January 24th, 2022

Motivated.

The 2021 season is “nothing” for Devin White.

The Bucs’ third-year linebacker seems generally angry how the season ended, a team riddled with more injuries than from a car pileup on I-75 in Brandon falling three wins short of their goal.

So already White is turning the page and is locked in on 2022.

“At the end of the day, we definitely came up short,” White said today. “When you have a team of this magnitude, with the type of leaders that we have, it’s Super Bowl or nothing. And obviously, we didn’t make it.”

White said there is already chatter amongst Bucs players how they can get back to the Super Bowl next season. White also added he’s had conversations with coaches on what positions the Bucs need to address this offseason so injuries don’t crater the season.

Does that mean White wants more corners?

“How can we get better for next year?”

Well, Joe would kindly suggest not blitzing big-armed quarterbacks who love to throw against the blitz to excellent receivers. That’s just a start.

  1. T REX Says:

    He needs to be replaced.

Overrated. One of the worst LBs in pass coverage in all of football

  2. Jmarkbuc Says:

We need a MLB who doesn’t run around like a chicken with its head cut off. We already had the Red rooster.

  3. RottenAmiigo94 Says:

Gerald McCoy 2.0 for every one play he makes. He makes 15 mistakes.

  4. SKBucsFan Says:

It’s a priority pick in my opinion too. But finding guys who are better isn’t as easy as it sounds. Licht needs to nail this draft

  5. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Ship him out. Use Amazon prime, so that it can be done overnight.

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs need to get better defensively especially against the pass. It was a problem all season long. Anyway i hope brady gives it one more year . This team still has talent. They need to hit a home run in the draft.

  7. Daniel Says:

Really poor use of the #5 overall pick. Really a dumb football player.

Could’ve had Quinten Williams, Ed Oliver, etc.

  8. allbuccedup Says:

I thought he would be better.

  9. BeeBucs Says:

Might need a new coach in his ear. Mike Caldwell is not getting through to him.

  10. Bruce Blahak Says:

The knock in the draft was his instincts. True? Looks lost in pass coverage.

  11. Leighroy Says:

How about not hooting and hollering like you scored a pick-6 when you tackle a RB for an 8-yard gain and a 1st down? All sizzle no steak.

  12. tampabayallday Says:

Trade him while he still has value, we would’ve been better off with kwon Alexander this kid d. White wouldn’t know what discipline is even if you handed it to him on a plate.

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

Instead of looking at who we need to add … let’s look at who I do we really have with keeping?

    The safeties I’m good with

    DL- Gholston, Nacho, Vea.
OLB- JTS, then who? We owe JPP a ton for giving the D some balls, but physically he’s done.
ILB -LVD but he’s long in the tooth. DWhite is regressing.
DB? Don’t know if one I wouldn’t replace if we could.

  14. sasquatch Says:

    D. White is dumber than a bag of hammers.

  15. Francisco Guzman Says:

Jmarkbuc they need to draft a player unfront in that DE position. I would try and get a veteran corner.

  16. David Says:

    Ignore the haters D White.!!

He had an injury riddled off year. He will be in the running for defensive player of the year next year.

I need to get healthy I am take care of some contracts—
Whitehead, Jensen, Davis, Godwin, Fournette, Gronkowski,
    and either Cappa or Stinnie.

The rest of the free agents are not as important. They can be replaced in the draft or buy cheaper options if they try to price themselves too high

  17. Pewter Power Says:

They need more pass rush ability inside than vea and suh give. McClendon and nacho aren’t gonna get it done. All their d tackles are alike. Maybe that will stop Bowles from all out blitzing if he has an interior pass rusher

  18. Francisco Guzman Says:

Anyway the schedule is brutal next year. They need to get better defensively. They need to resign godwin. If he wants big time money see if you can get beckham.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    David

Hope you’re right… but it feels too close to Kwon at this point.

White shouldn’t look lost as much as he does… MLB is the QB of the D.

  20. David Says:

I forgot to add on Gholston. Need to resign him. I did not add Suh to the list because I did not feel like he showed up this year other than about two games. I think age caught up to him.
If he wants to stay for a discounted price, great. But he is definitely not a priority

  21. BFFL Says:

White certainly isn’t the main problem, but it’s time for him to start playing smart and being the QB of the D or else I’m OK with bringing in someone better.

  22. Listen Linda! Says:

Some people make some real a$$hole comments on here. I’m sure they are comments that would not be made to his face.

  23. Buddha Says:

The truth is on Sunday the Rams had a better roster take the field. Brady proved at New England the last couple years that no one player can make up for roster deficiencies. The other team gets paid too and the NFL’s rules pretty mush assure rotation of quality teams…only one of the final four this year were among the final four last year. Think about how you would feel if you were a Bills fan today. All eight teams in the Division round belonged there. The days of a single dominant team is over.

  25. zzbucs Says:

    Are we serious here?

I agree he is average at coverage, and misses some tackles form time to time….But seriously we want to get rid of D White????

What´s happening here???? Does everybody gone crazy?????

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Devin White wasn’t our problem yesterday & he won’t be our problem going forward.
You would be hard put finding anyone on our defense looked on favorably today.

And, he’s right……the focus is now on 22…..and it’s almost Feburary

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    February

  28. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Needs to go back to school….

  29. #1bucsfan Says:

Funny how som blame DW45. Could he have played better hellyea. It’s a team sport they all needed to play better. On to next year.

  30. kyle Says:

sorry, but is it me or does 45, white, talk a lot and not back it up? guy is the best ghost on the bucs.

  31. ElioT Says:

White is starting to talk a better game than he plays and I hate to say that.

When that happens you start to question his leadership ability just as much as his playing ability.

  32. Mike Johnson Says:

Something happened to white during the season. He fell off quite a bit. But so did the entire defense. Rams showed us what a great D is supposed to look like yesterday.

  33. ModHairKen Says:

Keyboard GMs. The guy was hurt all year. These comments are appalling. Fifth in points given up. Final 8 and nearly pulled off an unbelievable comeback.

You ungrateful people need to go cheer for the Packers or Saints. You fit in well with those whiners.

Not a single one of you criticizing him would say this to White’s face. If you met him, you’d ask for selfies and autographs and it would be the greatest day of your sad lives.

  34. #8 Says:

    ModHair-

True story & I’m sure from many of my comments of idiocy you guys will know I am being honest.

When I see someone famous I ask them if they want a photo with me & let them know I am ok if they post it. Most of them laugh-

  35. Jeff Says:

Tell Devin his season looked like nothing. Less time in the weight room and more time in the classroom for this cat. I do love his spunk!

  36. Ash Says:

Wow the bitterness lol on to next season we got some holes to fill and some positions that need to be upgraded definitely doable and should have a shot again next year go bucs

  37. unbelievable Says:

Less time reading his own press clipping and more time studying film would be a good start…

BTW has anyone heard or seen Todd Bowles?

  38. SlyPirate Says:

LONG TIME BUCS FAN WILL TELL YOU …

This was a great season. Top record, top producing QB, promising rookies, and M1k3 kept his streak alive.

In 2019 (just 2 seasons ago) we were mad about not finishing .500!

All we should be saying is, “Well done, Bucs. We’re proud of you.”

  39. captivajim Says:

hopefully Bowles will leave , and find a way to take White with him.. His 30 yrds of personal foul penalties cost us the 1st game with aints.. yesterday–he , alone, determined not to stay with his assigned player –who walked bye him & caught a walk-in TD pass from Stafford

  40. Cobraboy Says:

    I agree with ModHairKen:

    1) Despite losing on Sunday, it was a great, enjoyable season for real Buc fans. I am sad the team will not go forward to another historic SB appearance and do appreciate the great moments & memories they gave me. Thank you 2021 Bucs! Forever grateful!

    2) I also think White was hurt all season. Not badly hurt except for a few games, but hurt enough where his full arsenal of skills suffered.

That said, I hope either Bowles re-thinks his entire D scheme, or Arians re-thinks Bowles. I thought the D underperformed all season, injuries aside.

  41. DBS Says:

I agree Stop with all the calibration crap. 1 good play he acts like he won the SB. Only to be followed up by 4 bad plays. It’s a 60 minute game and half the time they all forgot that.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

Not sure what to make of Devin White. This time last year we were comparing him to Ray Lewis.

Now Im not even sure its fair to call him a good player.

At this point its really hard to guess what kind of player we are getting next season with White. White is one of my favs and I hate to say this but right now it seems foolish to expect a game changing superstar.

Thats 1st half yesterday. Devin White was a bad football player. Its just what it was.

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

DWhite ran straight past Dak Prescott 3 times in game 1.

I’m sure he was injured late in the year, but he took steps back from the beginning of the year.

Too much attention after last year’s success, straight to his head.
    Too much Horsin’ Around🤔😂

  44. Destinjohnny Says:

    He went Hollywood for sure
But I also think by the way he played that he was hurt?
    Money and success changed him.
Well left a lot of the table…
This just in, kyle trask or Blaine Gabbert is our qb next year…

  45. Bucamania Says:

BIG step back this season for 45. Hope he re-focuses for next season.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Captivajim…..Yes White ignored his coverage duties and was responsible for that 1st TD……The maddening thing is in week 3 the Rams fooled us for a redzone TD in the same way.

This is not a new way to beat us in the redzone. I vividly remember Kamara destroying us in the 2020 regular season same way.

Its 3 years in Devin White…..You gotta be better then gagging up cheap TDs.

  47. JimmyJack Says:

To a lesser extent Im also dissapoined in Shaq Barrett. He didnt even sniff the QB yesterday and Im pretty sure he never touched Stafford except maybe on that bad snap.

He still had a good season but if you wanna win a ring you cant be counting on a guy that can get completely shutdown in a bad matchup. We are going to for sure need another legitimate threat as a passrusher beyond Shaq. Devin White aint it, JPP is a mystery, JTS is basically unknown……we need to add an option.

Passrush is the true reason we lost yesterday. They had one, we didnt. Their passrush/protection was good enough to overcome 4 fumbles. Our protection/rush was pathetic enough that our only chanse was to create 5 turnovers.

  48. Ed Says:

I think one of the issues with this Bucs team is they play fast but they don’t play with strength. Having guys like White and LTS flying around doesn’t help them put their feet in the ground and overpower. Maybe White needs to bulk up and be an outside edge rusher in this scheme. The middle linebacker position requires more smarts than he is showing. The Bucs needed White, JTS, Shaq Barrett and Vita Vea to dominate on this defense and none of them did.

The Bucs have so much money tied up in these guys and the results on the field are that they are good players but can’t dominate. JTS is a rookie and he has tons of work to do to become a football player. No excuses for Barrett, White and Vea, they are all in their primes and hardly made any game changing plays the entire season.

Barrett, White and Vea salary cap numbers are $40,000,000. Barrett’s contract is the worst, most of his is guaranteed. He has to be renegiotiated because if he was cut his cap number is $30,000,000. This next season he is guaranteed $15,000,000. Talk about an overprice player.

  49. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Wow the haters of DWhite gtfo of here and go back to New England proud of you dwhite let’s get it next year

  50. DRFEELGOOD Says:

What a bunch of loser talk!! Devin White would be grabbed up by all 31 teams not named the Bucs if he was let go. WTF? If you wanna question anyone, question the “sack king” that couldn’t take advantage of the Ram LT replacement. THAT is who I question.

  51. JimmyJack Says:

DRfeelgood……..WTF back at ya because nobody even said let him go.

For me with White Im just torn on expectations. I legitimately expected White to become a centerpiece superstar for this defense this season. The way it feels right now I feel like I need to lower my expectations…….Which sadly means the Bucs dont have that gamechanging splash player they can build around. And they dont have another #5 pick to try and find one with.

And I agree with you about Shaq too. He was a major letdown and between he, White and JPP we have a massive lack of passrush. A year ago that was a strength.

  52. HC Grover Says:

Brady had the game in the bag until Bowles ’40 seconds over Chattahoochee’ moment that sank our Bucs Season.

  53. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I hope he practices tackling and learns not to torpedo into his own players.

  54. HC Grover Says:

JPP is tough as nails I would not be surprised if he comes back and has a great year.

  55. Trophybuc Says:

Kudos to the Bucs on a fine year. A field goal from
the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP. Last year SB Champs.
This happened with some major injuries! Wat a
comeback…24 down to tie! Thanks for the no
quarter asked…non given effort!! Wat a team!
I was on the edge of my seat!!! Just came up a
little short…the missed fg seemed small at the
time…but….woulda been handy!! Great effort again!!
Thanks to TB12 and crew…again….nothing to
be ashamed of Tampa Bay Buccaneers…..get
rest and on to 2022 season…let’s gooooo!!

  56. Hodad Says:

Just worry about what you can do better White. That would be like everything. How does a MLB not pick off one pass in a 17 game season? Ask yourself that, than ask yourself how did I whiff on so many sacks? What can I do to get off blocks better? How do I keep myself from taking my fellow mates out of a play? Fix what you need to fix, don’t worry about the rest of the team. Way above your pay grade, and your mental ability.

  57. Buczilla Says:

I like Devin and he was amazing in the playoffs last year, but right now he is a far better talker than football player.

  58. Chris K Says:

I officially give up on all you idiots who criticize D.White. Probably our best player during our playoff run when winning the Super Bowl and we have tards acting as if they never seen that.
