Arizona Beat Dallas; Bucs Hold No. 3 Seed

January 2nd, 2022

Let’s go Vikings!

Tonight Minnesota (7-8) faces the Packers (12-3) in a game with huge NFC Playoff implications.

The Bucs (12-4) are tied with the Rams, but the Rams own the head-to-head tiebreaker. Dallas (11-5) fell to Arizona (11-5) this afternoon and now holds the No. 4 seed as NFC East champs.

Their season ends in Los Angeles? Saints can still make the playoffs with a win and a 49ers loss which is possible.

  2. Sean Says:

Worthless Ravens team couldn’t score two additional points to drop LA to 11-5. I’ll bite my tongue about the risks of mobile QBs since Lamar got injured 3 weeks ago as on a fairly routine QB play and not on a stupid running back play.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need to see the 49rs beat the Rams in LA next week……doable, but unlikely.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Saints are still alive… just need to stay away from that #2 seed until they’re eliminated.

  5. Wesley Says:

Hard to get excited for the playoffs after today’s performance.

  6. Bucs Guy Says:

49ers beat LA earlier this year and twice last year. If 9ers lose and Saints win, SF doesn’t make the playoffs (assuming GB beats Minnesota tonight).

  7. Rod Munch Says:

So using the ESPN Playoff Machine, doing a bunch of scenarios, almost all of them end with the Eagles at Bucs, be it as the #2 seed or #3 seed. None of the scenarios that I could come up with have the Saints vs Bucs.

Short of the Vikings and Lions beating the Packers to close out the season (won’t happen), best case is of course the Bucs need to win, then 49ers beat the Rams, certainly within the realm of reason, and Bucs get that #2 seed.

Bucs still have to win however vs Carolina.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

If the Bucs, Rams and Saints win next week, then it will be the #7 Saints at the #2 Rams in the first round, #6 Eagles vs #3 Bucs.

If the Rams lose, and Bucs win, then it’s #7 Eagles vs #2 Bucs.

If the Bucs win, then the Rams vs 49ers game just determines the seeding, if the Bucs are #2 or #3, but they play the Eagles either way.

The only way things get changed up is if the Bucs lose, then they could face the Cards, Eagles, or 49ers — but thankfully, not the Saints.

  9. Francisco Guzman Says:

Unfortunately i see a one and done by this team. The lack of weapons will be the cause.

  10. Bird Says:

    Rod

Good stuff. Yup no saints for me regardless Of seed. We will have a hard enough time without AB and Godwin.

I am ok with 49ers or eagles as first round matchup

  11. StAugBuc Says:

Fortunately no one cares what you see

  12. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch i think the saints will lose to the falcons. I know the eagles can clinch a playoff spot by green bay beating the Vikings which is most likely.

  13. Stu Says:

    Fait accompli

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

So 49ers and Saints both have 5 losses to NFC teams, Philly has 4 but beat Saints and 49ers beat Eagles. If 49ers and Eagles lose which very possible, Philly plays Dallas and 49ers play Rams, Saints play Atl. If Saints win and other two lose all 9-8. Philly would 5th seed in Wild Card and Saints would be 6th with less NFC losses. So if Bucs stay 3rd seed they would play Saints first round. 3 times a charm.

  15. Francisco Guzman Says:

List the 49ers could be out of the playoffs if they lose and the saints win next week. It means the 49ers have reasons to play to win.

  16. Bucs96NYC Says:

49ers have beaten the Rams FIVE straight times. Guess who plays next week! Bucs can still make it to the #2 seed but I’m not sure if we want that!

I don’t like the Bucs vs Eagles match up. I feel like they out played us earlier this yr. Part 2 might not look pretty.

  17. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Vikings are gonna get destroyed

  18. Rod Munch Says:

OK, I think I found the one scenario where if the Bucs win next week, they don’t play the Eagles in the playoffs…

If the Bucs beat Carolina, Falcons beat the Saints next week, Cowboys beat the Eagles and Rams beat the 49ers… then it’s the #6 49ers vs #3 Bucs.

If the Bucs win, that’s the only thing I can come up with that doesn’t end with the Eagles @ Bucs, be it the Bucs the #2 or #3 seed.

  19. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs96NYC anything that helps the bucs is a luxury. You wanna be home twice at least and this team is already in trouble by not having godwin not antonio brown.

  20. lunchmeat Says:

I was rooting for the Cowboys. Yuck.
I really, really did not want to have to play the Rams.
Now, unless SF beats them, we’re stuck going to LA in the divisional round.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Getting the 3 seed is a big deal. If we can get to the NFC Title game it gives us a good chance at 2 home games. Probably better the 50%.

#2 would obvisoulsy guarantee us 2 homes games. But, for now Ill take the improved chances moving from 4 to 3.

We need every advantage we can get right now. Need a win next week and keep the pressure on the Rams.

  22. Francisco Guzman Says:

Packers already in business. You gotta put over 28 to beat the packers.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs, with all those LBs missing, having to play the Eagles… that would be a bad thing. Just like it would be playing the 49ers.

Amazing thing if we finally get all our corners back and secondary is healthy, only to play a team that does nothing but rush the ball in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I know David is supposed to be back, and it is claimed Shaq would be back, but I don’t know if I’d count on either.

Tough matchup, but at home, the offense should be able to score points vs whoever we play. Frankly I think the 49ers are a better matchup than the Eagles, with the Rams and Saints being the two teams I 100% do not want to see.

  24. Sean Says:

It’s going to be difficult no matter who they play what but isn’t it always? I trust Brady to utilize the talent available to him. I’m more worried about the defensive injuries but we’ll see.

  25. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch if they can’t beat the iggles they suck. You want two homes games especially when your team’s depleted on offense.

  26. joe2 Says:

    Go Vikings?!

  27. Ben green Says:

Ben has serious doubts they could win multiple road playoff games twice in two years. It’s just very improbable. I’d never bet against Brady, but if I’m laying scratch, it’s gotta be the NFC field

  28. Francisco Guzman Says:

The Vikings are a complete joke. Must be nice playing in that NFC north.

  29. Francisco Guzman Says:

Ben green if their offense wasn’t depleted i would disagree with you. Their offense is depleted though.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Francisco – a bad matchup doesn’t mean the team sucks. If they played the Packers in the 1st round, I’d bet on the Bucs. If they played the Eagles, a running team, and the Bucs are missing 3 starting LBs, that’s a bad matchup, because the other teams strong point is our weak point. I don’t necessarily think the Bucs would lose, but I do think it would be a very difficult game considering the injuries.

Personally my list for teams I don’t want to play are 1. Saints, 2. Rams, 3. Eagles. Been that same list for a while. I’d rather play the Cardinals in the 1st round, in Tampa, than the Eagles just because of the way our teams match-up. That does not mean the Eagles would beat the Cards however.

  31. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch to me their season is pretty much gravy at this point. The AB release is not good for this offense. I am trying to think how this offense will operate. Brady will find out that this is unlike the Patriots offense he was used to.

  32. Ben green Says:

Oh Francisco if Brady had a healthy Godwin and a sane AB, they could do it, no doubt

  33. Bucc941 Says:

Antonio Brown is a waste of human flesh. Good riddance.

  34. Francisco Guzman Says:

Ben green even a sane brown. Anyway at this point it’s gonna be difficult and it sucks cause i just don’t see any dominant team. Waste of a season.

  35. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I think if we get the #2 seed we have a good shot at being home throughout the playoffs. That’s huge.

  36. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I believe instead of every one not really being able to play we are letting people heal. It’s going to pay off. I think our defense is going to be very tough come playoffs. I wish Evans had gotten the yards today so he could sit next week. I think we have a good shot. Brady is gaining chemistry with Grayson and Perriman. Watch out.

  37. unbelievable Says:

    Rod my thoughts exactly.

Bucs need to win. Everything else is whatever at this point.

And then hope we get enough guys back to handle Philly.

  38. Francisco Guzman Says:

I just find it hard to believe that Grayson and a guy like perriman is gonna save the bucs. You don’t replace an elite talent like AB. Ughhh

  39. BradyBucs Says:

Our Defense just isn’t good enough to beat the Rams, Packers, or Cowboys in the playoffs.

  40. firethecannons Says:

Every team that plays us has nothing to lose, we are routinely expected to beat each team by a stupid amount of points. So playing the Bucs–they go for it and go all out, sometimes it backfires, jets shoulda taken that field goal. what I am saying is, it is easier when you are the underdog. Every team goes all out on the Bucs–the superbowl champs.

  41. Beeej Says:

Not the one that played today, but THAT won’t be the same lineup in round 1

  42. firethecannons Says:

BradyBucs says:Our Defense just isn’t good enough to beat the Rams, Packers, or Cowboys in the playoffs.

Last year that was the case too, each playoff game was a challenge, it is possible we can do it again, many of the same guys on the defense. I get what you are saying though–it looks bad at times.

  43. Bkep Says:

Has a long time Patriots season ticket holder in Big Time Tom Brady fan I don’t understand the nervousness fan base is having. You saw what happened last year. Brady has taken lesser talented teams back with the Patriots to the championship games let alone to the super bowl. Not saying they’re going to win but I’m pretty confident they’re going to be in the NFC championship. I have watched this quarterback elevate teams good or bad for the last 20 plus years they will be there. And as a matter of fact he is throwing the ball as well as I’ve ever seen him in his career talk two or three years I would say Go Bucs
