“Their Defense Just Kicked Our @ss”

December 20th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians didn’t pull any punches over his sad offense Sunday night getting shut out by the slimy Saints.

In the past two games at home facing the slimy Saints, the Bucs have managed a grand total of three points.

League’s best offense? Ha!

(If Joe were a smart aleck, Joe would note that never happened to Mr. Excitement, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, but now is not the time.)

Per NBC, tonight was the first time in NFL history a team leading the league in scoring was shut out at home in December.

After the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Arians pointed his finger at the backup receivers for not getting the job done after Mike Evans and Chris Godwin left with injuries.

“I thought our defense played well enough for us to win the ballgame,” Arians began. “I thought our whole defense played great. Our special teams and offense was very, very poor. We did not get open.

“Obviously with all of the injuries, the young guys had to step up. We’ve got to do better. We dropped too many balls and we didn’t protect our quarterback good enough.

“The young receivers just weren’t getting open.”

With Evans and Godwin and Playoff Lenny out, Arians stated, that shouldn’t affect what plays are run.

“It doesn’t affect it at all,” Arians said. “The young guys just have to step up and get open.”

As far as the slimy Saints defense, Arians said, “Yeah, they did a good job. Their defense just kicked our ass.”

Joe sure hopes this is a motivating factor. But with so many injuries, including Lavonte David with a foot injury, Joe has to wonder if the slimy Saints broke the Bucs?

Tom threw the tablet and no one caught it either. Sheesh. Glad it wasn’t picked off by a saints defender.

BRUCE — did it ever occur to you that arrogance is the top trait of a LOSER? You lost because you came in thinking pass blocking was going to be all you’d need. But against this defense, youve never been able to pass block them anyway, — but you can run. So……how many running plays were called tonight? After none in the first quarter?

Look in the mirror BA. I’m an apologist for you but not tonight. Tonight you lost because the other team knew you were going to be arrogant, kicked you in the mouth early so hard that your oys QUIT.

    They QUIT.

Eat that. Or drink it, you’d like it better.

  7. BucsFan81 Says:

The most action the Bucs had all night was Brady breaking the tablet. Saints know they are in the Bucs head and own them.

  8. Swampbuc Says:

Tom should have banged the helmet against his own head. This is on him as much as anyone.

  9. adam from ny Says:

under certain conditions, tom plays sh!tty ball…

you have to create those other conditions as the opposing team…

the giants usually did, especially in big games…

    tonight the saints neutralized tommy

Greg Williams was clearly the fall guy for Sean Payton!……….

  11. unbelievable Says:

    Awful playcalling.

    Even worse execution.

    Zero heart from the offense.

They were pushed around like little b!tches out there.

  12. Listnfrmafar Says:

How about not prepared, how about unnecessary injuries due to cush practices. A player cannot come out on Sunday expecting to run full speed if they aren’t practicing this during the week. There BA goes again blaming the players. The play calling was horrid. Darden sucks, Pinon sucks and Succop has one job. Payton doesn’t even have to be in the stadium to out coach BA and his merry men. Hats off to the D one shining light. Brady looked like he was playing inside a pinball machine. Cut Rojo immediately, he is a quitter. Ya might as well get rid of Vaughn, he sucks to.

    Maybe 7-8 this year ๐Ÿ˜‚

So Great to see all the messiah cult members out in full force tonight. So happy

Geez brady you suck now ๐Ÿ˜‚ we are 10-4 with no bright future. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Everyone, calm down. You sound like Saints fans. This was a bad game. Yes, 6 bad quarters on Offense. This will get fixed. The sky is not falling.

  16. adam from ny Says:

also this jaelon darden kidd moves much much slower in real time on the field…

    i don’t care at all about his 40 time…

he never ever even attemps to dart towards the sidelines and turn a corner on a return…

    #Facts

he is pretty sure handed, at least thats a positive…otherwise he is fairly useless guy who almost stumbles and bumbles on most plays

    payton faked covid…

told his team hit to injure for a solid 20 minutes…

envelopes will be in your lockers in the morning for best hits…

and let them know he will be holed up in a windowless r@pe van in the burger king parking lot, no where to be seen or blamed for the intent to inure opposing players, watching it all on close circuit tv and on the headset with dennis allen discussing everything

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

How can anyone say this is on Brady, receivers were dropping balls all night even Gronk, they scanned the field many times and NO ONE could get open. Darden quitting on the deep ball. You could see Brady going through all his reads. Evan’s one catch and he takes a knee. All you goodie two shoes still think Bucs should cut AB. How about Licht cuts BA. 10 straight passes, really?

  22. Izod Says:

When will Arians admit the truth, that Leftwich is in WAY over his head? Abandoning the run game from the very beginning, predictable play-calling, and failing to get your team energized to play a game that should require not so much as a pep talk, all falls on coaching.

  23. Jerry Says:

It’s done. The league knows how to shut this offense down cold, and we obviously have no answer for it. And now we have a boatload of injuries as well.

We are going to win the division, even if we have to back into it. But this team is going to be bounced in round 1 or 2. The offensive coaching staff is an absolute disgrace. They are pathetic. They are constantly being outcoached week after week. With so many weapons, one of the most talented offensive rosters anyone has seen in years, and the greatest QB in the history of NFL…. that should not be happening. But it is! They constantly getting out-coached in one half or the other in nearly every single game!

I pray to GOD that Jacksonville takes Leftwich off our hands. But they have to be absolutely insane to even be still considering it after tonight.

  24. Aaron Says:

Going 5 wide doesn’t work against the saints..throwing deep on 3rd and 2…doesn’t work against the saints…Brady isn’t the goat against the saints..please come up with another game plan…

  25. Elita Vita Says:

Where was the heart? Not important enough to clinch a divisional title tonight? Think of the fans and them paying top dollar to see that caliber of play! Beyond words!!!

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Pinon punt killed them, Bucs still had a chance until that last FG.

  27. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

I’ll say it over and over… I don’t think this team practices hard enough!! It’s why they get injured so much on GameDay!! More worried about walk throughs thinking their talent will win the game… You have to have toughness also!!

  28. Swampbuc Says:

    ModHairQuim —

3 points at home in the last six quarters, being manhandled physically for the last six quarters —

Have you ever considered the concept of “trend line?” As in, when performance dips for a significant length of time, it might be an indicator of future performance? Naa. No way. You like hugging your Dominik doll way too much to say anything that would be accurate about a horrible performance by the team you keep inside your playboy centerfold.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Listnfrmafar . Please go root for your Patriots because you are a Patriots fan. You blame everyone but Brady so you need to shut up.

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oneilbucyall, Brady didn’t have his best game but be real, dropped passes Brate 2, Darden 1, Gronk 3, Godwin 1, Lenny 1, Vaughn 2, Scotty 1, Johnson 2 need I say more? So give me your Jamais story now, he would of won the game without Evan’s, Godwin & Lenny? Your a stupid man who only trolls when Brady isn’t throwing for 4 tds and 375 yds. Brady saved the franchise dip shat. And you Mr. Oneil is the o e gloating over this loss because your man crush plays for the Saints.

  31. Swampbuc Says:

List and I have had our disagreements but he is spot on with this one. And he blaimed Brady plenty, Oneil, you actuually have to think about what someone writes, not just react to just one aspect of it. But given your history — never mind.

  32. Jerry Says:

It’s definitely coaching. How the hell do you come out flat in a game like this? National television against a division rival with the chance to clinch the division, and you come out unmotivated, low-energy, and look like you have no game plan? Are you kidding me?

Yeah…this is a coaching problem. Don’t blame the injuries. Don’t blame the back-ups. This is a coaching problem. I have had enough hearing all week, every week about how this team is taking days off for practices and doing walkthroughs-only and then come out at game time and look lost.

And if AB is cut Monday, season is over. We are likely not going to have Evans until the post season. We don’t know when Godwin will be back to 100%. And Brady will be completely unmotivated the rest of the way if his 2nd favorite target is booted because Arians wants to send a moral message on COVID.

  33. Swampbuc Says:

Jerry — the team already had announced — before the offensive shiite show — that AB and Edwards will be active on Monday. Thank baby jesus and buddha and baby venus just in case.

But otherwise — yes — however let’s not pretend the defense was at fault tonight. Bowles gave up 9 points. A win in every other game going back to………..last year’s blowout loss against the Saints

The best offense in the league got shut out by a crippled team without it’s head coach —

I don’t want to hear about injuries. Coaching — offensive coaching — absolutely.

And the walk through bullspit is just that — better not prepare for a game you may not make when you are not preparing for the one in front of you — on national TV no less!!!!!!

    Idiots.

  34. Kentucky Buc Says:

A lot of you A holes on here are going to deserve what u get when Brady retires. Iโ€™ll be here laughing my azz off at u.

  35. Swampbuc Says:

KY Buc — the sentiment is that Brady would retire out of disgust, not because he can’t play any more.

But, do you think he is going to be happy with his last six quarters of regulation football after he reviews the film? Get back to me on that.

No one knows more than Brady that he needs to pick up his game for the Bucs to do anything. Even making the playoffs is now in question. Saints at 10-7 and Bucs at 10-7, Saints win the division because they KICK OUR ASS EVERY TIME. Becaue they are in Brady’s head. Look at some data on the subject but otherwise laugh your arse off while you’re on the short bus.

  36. Crickett Baker Says:

Adam, I am with you (other than the hysterical Payton-in-the-van scenario). I think Jaylon has consistently been the worst kick/punt returner that I have ever seen. if I NEVER have to see him standing back there, ready to field a ball, it will be TOO SOON!

  37. Rod Munch Says:

How about your offense makes adjustments…

I know, it’s silly stuff, to think about changing stuff up instead of just hitting your head up against a wall, but I’ve heard it can work.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk usually won against the Saints in Tampa… even if it was against his will and he was telling Winston to throw a 5 yard out to setup a long field goal, and Winston ignored him and throws a 48 yard TD to Godwin on the past play.

I don’t understand what the issue is. How was Dirk able to get W’s, and Arians is completely unable to make adjustments.

  39. Defense Rules Says:

BA … ‘Their defense just kicked our ass.’

Pretty much the whole game in a nutshell, from the opening to closing bell. Our offense went into the game healthy, and got the snot beat out of them … AGAIN.

This Bucs’ offense doesn’t stack up well against smashmouth defenses (like the defense played in our other 3 losses to the Rams, Saints & Washington?). Counting last night’s game, that’s now 7 turnovers & 10 sacks in just those 4 losses. The way you beat this offense is to punch them in the mouth, then listen to their fans cry about the coaching. Newsflash: the coaches weren’t on the field last night. Not sure our offense was either.

  40. Anthony Says:

Two backs running 40 times in this game would have made more sense the saints play the pass against the Bucs tuff. So why do we have all the running backs we do if we never use any of them to force an issue. Ro Jo and Lenny combo would have put pressure on and maybe Lenny doesn’t get hurt. And Vaughn needs to be used from tome to time he’s QUICK. And changes things

  41. PT in NYC Says:

The “young recievers” just aren’t good. There’s a reason why they are deep backups. Yet the dumber fans were blaming.
    Brady, comparing him to Winston.

No Evans, Godwin, Brown, Fournette,. An off night for Gronk. The usual brain-dead execution by LoJo. And of course the team looked unprepared.

This team needs to get healthy and focused. No more “wake up” games, we’re already past quota.

  42. Bucsfanman Says:

What an ugly game! Saints just punched us in the mouth.
Where are the “emerging young players” at on this roster? Tyler Johnson, Scooter, Darden?

Coaching? Newsflash folks, coaches don’t play.

  43. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Don’t get me wrong I love BA and am grateful that he brings so much to the table as head coach. He is in the top tier of the NFL overall.

Nevertheless, he has not demonstrated the same level of mastery of strategy and tactics as either Belichick or Payton over time. Neither have other contemporary head coaches, Andy Reid for example.

This loss cannot be blamed on Leftwich either.

  44. Anonymous Says:

Obviously, you are not paying attention. –Joe

  45. DBS Says:

Can’t expect to much. Remember backups are backups for a reason. At least so we have been told.

  46. PSL Bob Says:

Receivers not getting open. Like on the play where Brady didn’t lead Scotty, who was breaking fee, and the ball was picked. That’s not on Scotty not being open. That’s on Brady.

  47. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR and the rest of the stooges that don’t believe coaching has anything to do with winning. Two words Shaun Payton. Bucs are 0-7 or should I say BA is 0-7 regular season against Saints. Muscle pulls are lack of conditioning, if you ever played this game you know you can’t just show up game day and run full speed. Why do you think Suh shows up on off days to sprint? Ever hear of game prep? DR, I used to respect your input but if you can’t see that coaching can lose a game you need to go back to the drawing board. Big difference between BL & Bowles last night. Oh, I guess a 4th & 1 and you run Vaughn up the middle was a good call or 10 straight passes when the first 6 didn’t work. Give me a break. No days off versus every day off. DR, you’re wrong!

  48. Bruce Blahak Says:

Abandoned the run game again from the start. Empty backfield crap. Hate it. Simply no urgency to this 2021 team. Like they’re sleepwalking through this season waiting for the playoffs. I hope.

  49. TJ Says:

When in doubt, always blame the โ€œBrotherโ€ (Leftwich). Typical Tampa response.

  50. Divis Says:

I have never seen anyone comment about how Winston literally went to the Saints with the BUCS ENTIRE PLAYBOOK. Like think about this, the only two defences that held us under 20 we’re both led by staff that knew exactly what Brady was about to do (pats/saints). You can’t tell me Winston has not been sitting in the film room with Saints coaches letting them know exactly what plays Arians offence will be trying to run and what they look like. This would explain how they always perform like champions against us then go on to stink it up elsewhere, especially without Brees.

  51. BUCCOBRUCE Says:

Here come all the bi-polar fans Bucs this bucs that Bruce sucks Tom this Tom that. Dont sit here and call yourselves real fans when our 10-4 playoff bound team lost to the Saints. Last I checked we have 3 players out on D. on offense? Lets see AB, Fournette left the game, along with Evans and Godwin. The Saints own us you say?? Yeah they can own us in the regular season but I know what we did in the playoffs when it mattered. Just 2 years ago. You fairweather so called bucs fans would have given your left kidney for a playoff birth. But now you have your heads so far up your a**, You forget how far this team have come along in 2 years. Spare us the bullcrap complaining and let see how quickly you will forget this when Bucs win it all. Thats it Im done! ( boiler room Ben Aflack)
