The Magic Of Tom Brady

December 6th, 2021

Crazy, crazy numbers.

Joe could write a week’s worth of stories with all of them being about Tom Brady and it wouldn’t come close to filling the bucket with all the wild and amazing things he has done.

Brady was crazy good again yesterday, but that’s a repetitive statement. He completed 38 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns. He distributed the ball to nine different receivers but heavily leaned on his four main horses to get the job done.

Smart.

Judge, of SI.com, has a few other things you may have not known about Brady that are truly “wow” facts.

* The first is, Brady owns the Dixie Chicks. We knew that. But how many quarterbacks do you know are 10-0 against a team that, for the better part of Brady’s career, was a decent team. As Judge types, “Face it: Tom Brady owns Atlanta. He’s 10-0 vs. the Falcons, with two games this year where he threw for nine TDs.”

* “Tom Brady has 24 touchdown passes and no interceptions in the red zone this season, the most scores there without a pick this year.” Joe will add, this stat does not include the opponent’s red zone.

* In “The Morning After,” Joe wrote about old football clichés that may have been true about football in the 1950s or 1960s but today are nothing more than empty words and wives tales. One such cliché is if you throw over 50 times you will lose. Whoever dreamed up this nonsense never met Brady, as Judge types: “Tom Brady is 21-10 when throwing 50 or more passes in a game. No other quarterback in NFL history has more than five wins when attempting at least 50 passes.”

No matter how you slice it, what we are watching with the Bucs and in particular with Brady is rare stuff. Brady is a total freak of nature and we should all soak in and savor what is happening. It won’t be here long. It’s like a comet that hangs around for a few weeks. Once it’s gone it’s gone.

These are truly special times we are living in as Bucs fans.

    Enjoying the ride.

Gotta say joe. Going thru the lost decade is all worth it now that we get to watch history in the making. Bin a Bucs fan since 98. All I gotta say is ITS A GREAT TIME TO BE A BUCS FAN.

  3. Bird Says:

Agree. Enjoy the ride. We are living out a bucs field of dreams. The GOAT comes to Iowa. I mean tampa and greatness happens.

They should make his statue the size of the bucs flag at one buc

So glad there are still sole brady haters on here. I mean you know who you are. Its laughable at this point.

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

If Bucs beat Buffalo, their overall record will be back on track where everyone thought they’d be even w/ the onslaught of injuries

  5. M Sprott Says:

I agree. These are the moments we who have followed the Bucs for years have dreamed of. Brady is just fun to watch. He knows the game better than any QB I have ever watched (40 years of being a buc fan). It’s like watching any master chef cook. He knows where everything is in the kitchen and he knows exact how much and what to use for each dish! Enjoying this time!

  6. Hawk Says:

The ‘Play of the Game’ was the 4th and 4 on the opening drive. That sent a message to the Falcons that the Bucs were going to do whatever they want, and the Falcons were going to be treated like fans who ran out onto the field.

  7. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Damn #1…been a Bucs fan since ‘76 myself 😳☺️. I, too, am enjoying this ride 😊.

  8. Irishmist Says:

There was one throw to Godwin where he just ripped it like a young Bert Jones. I don’t know how he does it at 44.

  9. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I think the most impressive part of Brady this year is the injuries we have had. He’s lost both of his comfort receivers and the secondary allowed anyone to score on us. After that we are still 9-3. That’s Tom Brady!!! That’s impressive!!

  10. Wild Bill Says:

Aside from the brain fart at the end of the first half it was another great example of game management by the most cerebal qb in the game. His accuracy seems a tad off this season but he simply controls the Bucs offense as a skilled tactician. I doubt he would do it but when he eventually retires he would be a really good head coach.

  11. Casual Observer Says:

Nobody had ever equaled TB’s ability to quickly assess the defense and then make an accurate throw at the correct speed. He is understandably confident. And he has a great O line to give him those 2 seconds. That is why he is the goat.

  12. Kentucky Buc Says:

If anyone watched KC vs Denver you got a true appreciation of how TB12 works the pocket . Time after time Bridgewater drifted out the back of the pocket into the outside rushers instead of stepping up and letting the rush go by him. Even Mahomes drifts for no apparent reason at times.

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

Fan since the 70’s…loved the 2002 team finally climbing to the Super Bowl summit. I began to wonder if they’d ever come close again in my lifetime. Brady is a gift from the football gods ( thank you Belichick, 49ers brass, Winny and even Matt Gay…all who have somewhat recovered in their own way ).

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’ve got to throw in some credit to our Oline……Brady is able to work his magic without being harassed game after game……one hit yesterday……Matty Ice….12 hits, 5 sacks…..what a difference.

  15. Chris K Says:

    🐐

  16. James Says:

There have been only five times in history that a qb threw 50 or more times with a 70% or better completion average. Four of the five are from Brady.

  17. Mr Bean Says:

For the third stat – throwing over 50 times – that usually indicates the team is behind and trying to catch up quickly by abandoning the run. But that is not always the scenario with Brady. He often substitutes screen passes for running the ball and the many attempts are part of the plan even when you are ahead like yesterday’s game.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

Brady is the GOAT.. no doubt. You would still think we wouldn’t necessarily want him throwing 50 times a game consistently, I mean he is old😊.

Some running game would be nice. I wonder how Rojo’s Vaginitis is today?

  19. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

    “Is this Heaven?”

    “No son… it’s Tampa Bay!”

  20. Reach87 Says:

Kudos to the Offensive Line. Not perfect (who is?) but getting the job done in the passing game. Running game needs some work, but not sure the calls were great against the D (think we could have gone left a bit more). Protection has been pretty good. Go Bucs!

  21. Bird Says:

    Jmark

He was actually diagnosed with “man-gina”
    😂

  22. Gordon Brook Says:

I have always been complete supporter of the Patriots when the great Tom Brady was there. Now I am complete supporter of the Tampa Bay Bucs, because Tom Brady is there. The great Tom Brady always took less money from the Patriots to play the very best he could for them. Anyway, I am buying a great house in Tampa Bay to attend the great football games there. Tom Brady is the most outstanding player and everyone on his team admires him because he is one hundred percent dedicated to his team!

  23. Youngbucs Says:

Whoops the throwing 50x tosses cold water on one of oneilbucs excuses for bad QB play.

  24. Captain Oblivious Says:

There is something to the cliché about throwing 50 times in a game. TB12 winning percentage during such games is only 68% while his overall career winning percentage is 76.6%. It should also be noted that so far this season has been a disappointment for TB12 since a 9-3 record is only 75%.

Isn’t is curious that we have heard nothing about TB12 vaccination status? I would be surprised if he got the jab considering his nature about what he puts in his body. I suspect he went the Aaron Rodgers route and opted for daily testing.

  25. PassingThru Says:

The dink and dunk attack has come a long way since those losses in New Orleans and Washington, much of it has been adjusting to the two high safeties. That tells me Leftwich is having the team practice on those shorter pass plays as they simply looked unprepared in those two earlier losses. The key is to take what the defense is giving you, and if the defense wants to take away “biscuit” football, you go with a ground attack or short to intermediate passes. It’s death by a thousand cuts.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU DON’T RUN THE BALL!!!

  27. Listnfrmafar Says:

Captain Oblivious, the name fits. The man brought synergy and a winning attitude to a lost team of great players. Imagine if he went to San Fran and took Gronk? Kittle & Gronk on the same team? Listening to GMFB and all they can talk about is Murray in MVP race, yesterday he threw for 123 yds and 2 tds and ran for 2. If he was playing the Bucs, doubtful he runs for two tuddies. Seriously am I missing something?

Byron Leftwich calling plays to Tom Brady, Yeah whatever you think Mr. Brady Sir!

  29. Captain Oblivious Says:

    Hello Listnfrmafar,

Thanks for your feedback. I’ve been a TB12 fan since I was a Bledsoe fan which has carried over to the Bucs. I was very subtlety and a bit sarcastically pointing out TB12s amazing career winning percentage. Yeah, if TB12 had gone to the 49ers and brought Gronk and AB with him they would probably be better than 9-3.

Even though TB12 is probably leading the MVP race I don’t want him to get it because MVPs never win the SB. Also, Kyler Murray seems to be the current media darling. I am not sold on AZ and don’t think they go deep in the playoffs.

  30. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs. That is bad play calling what you talking about . He threw a pick 6 right before the half . He also almost threw another pick 6 to 45 remember? Atlanta is a bad team why throw 50 times when you can run the ball?? Brady had thrown a interceptions and 5 straight games and 2 of those games we lost . So what’s your point because we want be playing teams like Atlanta in the playoffs.

  31. captivajim Says:

Bills will be the best defensive team we play this season..They are 1st in pass defense & 6th against the run..thru 11 games, they have allowed only 174 pts scored –lowest in the league.. we’ll need Big games from Fournette & Rojo…..

Good thing we have Gronk back along with CG & ME

  32. Eddie Marz Says:

By the way, another Drew Brees record could be broken this week. Career completions. Brady needs just 18 more to break another career record held by Brees. With 239 career wins he’s already FIFTY ahead of the next guys. GO BUCS GO BRADY!

  33. ClarksvilleSean Says:

I laughed out loud at you pointing out the part about Brady’s red zone stat not including the opponent’s red zone. I just wasn’t expecting that.

  34. View from 132 Says:

Looked like Dilfer before the first half ended.
