“Lethal” Chris Godwin

December 6th, 2021

Clutch.

Joe likes telling this story because it is a major reason why the Bucs are so damn good.

On the day the Bucs hosted Bucco Bruce Arians’ introductory press conference, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said he was going to do everything in his power to ensure that then-free agent slot receiver Adam Humphries would return to the team.

As it turned out, Arians had nothing against Humphries, who had just finished a helluva year with the Bucs. But Arians coveted speed at the slot position. Arians noticed how physical of a receiver Godwin was so Arians did what he did with Hines Ward in Pittsburgh and Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona, with great success.

Arians moved Godwin to the slot. And Godwin has totally blown up.

Yesterday was Godwin’s best game in the NFL. He had 15 catches for 143 yards. Afterwards, Arians spoke about Godwin’s physical nature.

“That’s what he’s always been,” Arians said. “He has the ability to play outside also, but he is lethal inside. Obviously, the way he blocks is huge and gives you so much in between the numbers.”

Godwin can be placed anywhere on the field and he will produce. He’s also quietly become perhaps the Bucs’ No. 3 running back when he runs those Wing-T-like handoffs and cuts inside off tackle.

Regarding his 15 catches and 51 passes by 17-game-loathing, salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady, Godwin said, “I like that. We should do that more.”

If the results are anything like they were Sunday, why the heck wouldn’t you?

Oh, and the decision by Arians to move Godwin to slot? Godwin is likely going to cash over $100 million before his career is over because of that move.

    Cap just went up

He will get paid by bucs. Maybe he will take discount at 18 per year and not full 20 per 😂

You think he wants to play for jags or jets? Nah.

  2. SB~LV Says:

Did RoJo see the field yesterday?

  3. Robert Says:

Usually TB makes great wideouts from unknown WR’s. CG has earned his respect from everyone, especially TB. He could go anywhere and kick a$$

  4. SC Bucs Fan Says:

SBLV he played a series and turned an ankle

  5. Since76 Says:

I hope we can keep him.

I’ve changed my mind on Godwin…..always wanted to keep him but thought he’d want more than Evans and that would cause problems.
I’m now thinking….pay him…..Evans will be OK with it.

  7. Winny Testaverde Says:

Love the man’s humility/attitude also. He doesn’t celebrate every catch and/or 1st down like a Super Bowl victory. It’s a good thing as that would have been a ton of celebrating yesterday.

  8. Beeej Says:

Reminds me of Riggins… he’d just toss the ball to the ref after scoring a TD and jog back to the bench

  9. Cobraboy Says:

SB~LV: I heard he got “sick”, or something, nothing about an injury.

Did he “leave it on the field?”

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Godwin was a beast yesterday. Let’s hope we are able to keep him next year

Ungodly Chris Godwin has been one of my faves along with ME13 (his bro), LVD, and Will G. He’s a class act both on and off the field. Pay up, Glazer Boyz. The man deserves it. He’s almost freaky, a WR who also plays like a TE/RB.

  12. ATLBuc Says:

Rojo played one or two series

  13. E.Vi. Says:

Godwin has always been good. I love how people say bucs can’t win on the road well we just blasted 3 teams on the road Giants Colt’s and falcon’s and 3 tough teams that were fighting for a playoff spot. Also beat them with only 5 player’s on defense if you know what I mean. BUCS vs PATRIOTS IN SUPERBOWL

  14. brooks Says:

we don’t need ab with these guys!!

  15. Irishmist Says:

Just give him OJ’s money plus his own. He’s a better blocker anyway.
