“Business As Usual In The Quarterback Room”

December 29th, 2021

Tom Brady and rookie QB Kyle Trask

Are the Bucs isolating a quarterback in an food-filled room with a high-powered air filter, a window and a private fitness center with no access to the outside world?

It’s worth considering, as Joe really doesn’t want to see Kyle Trask or a fresh-off-the-street Drew Stanton in the playoffs.

Yes, Joe watched the Saints on Monday night roll out fourth-string Ian Book for his first career start. They scored three points and got pummeled by the Dolphins in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score.

Think about it. The Saints were desperate to win the game with their 7-7 record. But their quarterbacks, Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian were shelved with COVID.

Interim Bucs head coach Harold Goodwin was talking to local media today (Bucco Bruce Arians is on the shelf with COVID this week) and was asked whether the Bucs are pseudo-quarantining a QB just in case.

It ain’t happening, Goodwin said. “Business as usual in the quarterback room.”

That’s fine for this week. The team-related risk is minimal. Hey, if everyone gets COVID now, then they can be cleared to play in the playoffs if healthy. Joe’s not making light of the virus, only speaking to the NFL reality.

But next week, Joe would hope the Bucs would get serious about making sure they have a legitimate QB isolated just in case. Some might say Blaine Gabbert is not a legitimate QB, but Joe suspects those same folks would become fast Gabbert fans if Tom Brady was about to miss a playoff game.

I feel you Joe. I just have absolutely no confidence in Gabbert or any of our QB; s if Brady goes down. IF..this ever happens? I hope Gabbert shocks us all and delivers.

  2. captivajim Says:

This is the time of yr when coaches usually try to give 2nd & 3rd backups some game experience Before the playoffs .. Hopefully if we get a big lead over jets by halftime ,or 3rd qtr; I’d play Gabbert and Trask..

  3. VSyl Says:

The only thing that absolutely can not happen in this team is Brady going down. Not only we lose the main player, but we will also lose confidence. Nobody will be able to play at their best knowing that Brady is out.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m quite sure Brady stays out of the “establishments” and doesn’t mingle with the public……but he can’t trust the other players…..this virus is really running rampant….

  5. Cainishere Says:

The team needs to become super strict about what they are doing in their personal lives. This is your money and legacy on the line, don’t jeopardize your shot at making it to the big dance. It’s kind of common sense, I think. Go Bucs

  6. #1bucsfan Says:

The few times gabbert played he’s looked good. I think he could handle it for a few games but then that means Brady won’t be as sharp missing snaps. Keep him well blocked and the wins coming 1 game at a time

  7. PSL Bob Says:

I’d almost like to see TB12 exposed to the virus now. Let him have to quarantine now and then we won’t have to worry about it going into the playoffs. I’d rather have Gabbert lead the team against the Jets and Panthers than have Brady have to quarantine during a playoff game. Same could be said of the O-line.

  8. Beeej Says:

REALLY isn’t hard to get a bunch of rental canopies (no walls) and have the meetings outside.

Is Ryan Griffin still with the organization?

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady I throwing his cape around all the QB’s, Oline & WR’s. Geuero has made up a special brew of covid be gone alixa. Why not he claimed he had a potion to cure cancer. If they get it, get it early in the week so they.have the chance to play in the game.
