Bucs Forecast: Rain & Run

December 29th, 2021

Assistant head coach Harold Goodwin, also the Bucs’ co-offensive-line coach, will take the head coach duties on Sunday.

Yes, Bucco Bruce Arians has The Sickness. Joe’s prayers are with you, Coach.

But what about the guy calling the shots on Sunday in New Jersey?

Harold Goodwin is taking over for a game. Normally, he’s the run game coordinator/offensive line co-coach (he handles guards and centers)/assistant head coach.

Goodwin interviewed for the Bucs’ open head coaching gig in 2016, but Dirk Koetter got the job. He’s been with Bucco Bruce Arians for over a decade at various stops, but he’s no true Arians disciple.

Arians tells a story of letting Goodwin call plays in preseason during their time in Arizona. Too much running the ball in those games, said Arians, and he’ll tell you that Goodwin is an true run-first kind of guy.

So what might this mean for the Bucs against the miserable Jets on Sunday?

Well, first, it looks like it will be a running kind of day. The current kickoff forecast is 50 degrees and windy with a 50 percent chance of rain.

Goodwin won’t be calling plays, of course, nor will he be radically changing anything. But he’s still head coach for the day/week and Joe expects the Bucs to run the ball a little more than usual thanks to Goodwin’s influence on the decision-making.

..three years here, SB here, his photo still on Arizona uniform. Boy, we are a second class ball club!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I’m okay with more running. Less chance of Brady getting hurt by a Jets defender.

  3. Dom Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t Leftwhich continue to be the play caller like he has been all season. If he’s available to call plays why would you make the change?

  4. allbuccedup Says:

I didn’t know he was still with the team you never hear about him.

I’m with Dom: I thought Leftwich called the plays. Maybe Goodwin will manage the game and clock, and make the HC decisions.

But I doubt he will call the plays, but no doubt will be part of the game planning.

nothing wrong with running on a windy, raining day …Rojo & Vaughn should each do well against Jets .maybe Harrold will also assume BL’s role;; as BL might be interviewing with Jags…

Cobra, Dom. How can you two be confused about who will call plays? Did you guys read the first line of the last paragraph. Arians has not been calling plays during his Buccanneer stint. He said as much when he took the job. Remember? Back to basket weaveing and bead stringing for you guys.
    Go Bucs!

Can’t wait to see Brady give Harold the straight arm.

    lol JimBucs2… my thoughts exactly.

I guess ‘doing your own research’ doesn’t always lead you to the correct answers!
