Bruce Arians Says Devin White Is Playing Hurt And It Shows

December 8th, 2021

The hard truth is that Devin White and Lavonte David looked nothing like the NFL’s top inside-linebacker duo on Sunday.

Maybe they were average.

David’s tackling was off and his quickness seemed down to a level Joe has never seen, especially for a game on turf.

Joe would say Devin White was loafing on multiple occasion but that would be unfair because White is battling a hip issue with a side of quad healing.

“Devin still isn’t where Devin needs to be. You know, he’s sucking it up for the team and playing hurt, and it shows a little bit,” Bucco Bruce Arains told the Buccaneers Radio Network last night.

“But I thought his pass drops and pass coverage were pretty good. Lavonte missed two tackles I’ve never seen Lavonte miss. But overall I thought pass coverage was good. Run game we could have been a little better.”

Joe just hopes David is still recovering from his sprained ankle in October. That’s a whole lot more preferable to the alternative — that he’s slowing down as he nears his 32nd birthday next month.

Crazy how a guy 2 weeks ago balls out in Indy and makes a game changing pass break up at the end, the next week he misses 2 tackles and he is getting old, I don’t buy it. I believe he will be able to play into 30s much like Brooks did till the very end.

those guys need a bye week now maybe we can rest these guys on Jets week (probably a trap game)

  3. David Says:

I think they both just need to heal up. Use Minter a lot the next couple of weeks

  4. SOEbuc Says:

Lavonte had one of his classic fumble recovery for yardage.

Lots of players limping around this time of year.
    Go back to 16 games.
I’d love the extra games, but I love my heros more.

  6. Medicated Pete Says:

Bruce will keep playing him till the wheels fall off smh

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Pete (Realist)….it’s Todd that plays him. BA has nothing to do with the defense.

I agree that Minter should take more snaps.

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

After Sunday play them sparingly, give Minter & Gill more reps. JPP as much as I love the guy is toast, it’s sad watching him. I hope these guys are taking Bill’s seriously because they are coming in hot and they are a pass first offense and we all know how Bucs secondary is. Bucs need to play more balanced O, don’t abandon the run and set up play action. Big dose of Lenny & Rojo this week, I hope Rojo is up for it. It would be just like BA to come out no huddle and throw it 20 times.

Let’s get Britt on the field, what happened to him?

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Devin White ‘sucking it up for the team and playing hurt’ is a prescription for disaster come the playoffs. It was a dogfight last year with everyone pretty much healthy. We’d be lucky to make it past Playoff Game 1 this year unless this defense heals up some.

Note to BA: We have backups for a reason. Use them. If they can’t hack it, find some new backups.

  11. Aaron Says:

Agree, both of our Iniside LBs look like they are playing hurt. Plus, JPP, my fear is that playing them means they won’t further damage the injury but it also means that rest doesn’t help.

    Go Bucs!

  12. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Is it me or does Special Team Ace Cam Gill seem to do pretty well on the pass rush when he’s in?

  13. Mike Says:

I do hope the Bucs sit these guys after the Bills game. Let them heal up and come in with fresh legs for the playoff push.

  14. Hudson Says:

Yes Cam Gill does looks good on that pass rush let’s get him some reps

  15. captivajim Says:

Devin should have been held out of game against Dixie Chix…we will need him at 100% against Bills

  16. Wesley Says:

    Rest White David and JPP.
