Will Leonard Fournette Pound The Giants?

November 22nd, 2021

Giants are soft on the run.

Warren Sharp is a pass-first, forget-the-run kinda guy. That doesn’t mean the noted handicapper turned stat analyst isn’t open-minded.

Given the stats Playoff Lenny has put up recently, and knowing how the Giants are soft against the run, Sharp seems to be leaning toward the Bucs leaning on Playoff Lenny to win tonight’s game.

Fournette came out of the bye securing an iron-clad grip on the Tampa Bay backfield, handling 90.5% of the backfield touches, turning 19 touches into 92 yards. Even with the Bucs in catch-up mode, it was Fournette running the routes and he caught 8-of-9 targets for 45 yards, the most targets and receptions he has had with Tampa Bay. Fournette has now been a top-15 scorer in five of his past six games.

The Giants have been beaten up by backfields, allowing 4.6 YPC to backs (26th) while allowing 14.3 rushing points per game (22nd) to go along with 13.1 receiving points per game (25th) to the position.

Yes, Joe understands the Bucs are undefeated when Playoff Lenny gets at least 12 carries in a game. It appears reading Sharp’s intel, tonight should be a Playoff Lenny kind of night.

  1. Kentucky Buc Says:

Skewed numbers. I would counter that Lenny got those carries because the Bucs were up and trying to burn clock in their wins. But yes balance is usually a good thing. Bucs are definitely guilty of abandoning the run too early.

  2. Casual Observer Says:

To answer your question – Yes.

  3. Anonymous Says:

I would just like to see some f*cking urgency from the offense tonight. Maybe a couple series with no huddle or at least just get back to the line so the D can’t substitute

  4. zzbuc Says:

Today will be ME13 night…..Keep an eye on it…..

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The only running stat that I want to see tonight is Tom Brady 3 runs for minus 3 yards….(victory kneel-downs)

  6. Jmarkbuc Says:

Would love to see Lenny and Rojo over a hundred…

And a Defense that’s not in a coma… Jonathan Taylor on the horizon. Defense better “Get Live”

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ok, Mike Evan’s, Chris Godwin & hopefully Gronk and Scotty, why not put our eggs in Lenny’s hands? Can you say 6-5 with that philosophy?

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Again, filed under the “no duh!” category. Feed the run-game…NOW!

  9. Eckwood Says:

Again RoJo is the best runner , has the staff developed Vaughn as he could catch in college !! He is also a better runner than Leonard !! Again we are dealing with the dumb jock coach disease , RoJo complete gam has regressed , Fournette runs way upright and isn’t a good short yardage back and the staff hasn’t developed Vaughn or the DJ disease keeps this team from improving ….. listen OJ is OJ but he caught some big balls from Winston and this staff just doesn’t get him involved !! The Dumb Jock Disease is currently more overwhelming at one than C Nicks Mersa and Covid !!! Oh Mike Evans had his best camp by far but he can’t catch big balls now !! They do have the 7 yard corner and back shoulder improved but the rest of the route tree has terribly regressed !!! The Staff is getting out coached and not doing a good job of improving this year !! BA makes 5 plus mil a year and it’s not to be or support the dumb jock disease but that is exactly what has taken over one buc !! Give RoJo the rock 20 times and you win ,,, you have better talent go back to the basics !! Give Vaughn the rock 20 time and you win and Light says Wow he’s our best back !! F ing Morons !!

  10. Iamabuc Says:

They should actually run both, 4nette and RoJo. This then is game where RoJo might a get chance to shine. Imho.

  11. Listnfrmafar Says:

If running is the answer then why not have Andy Dalton as Bucs QB and get rid of Evan’s and Godwin? Think of the cap space. This D cannot get off the field. Yes if you run you use clock but Bucs need points to keep up with opposing offenses. If Gronk & AB were healthy this isn’t a discussion. Oh and I agree Rojo is better than Lenny but he has hands of stone and doesn’t fit with a QB that needs a solid check down option.

  12. firethecannons Says:

gotta change it up this offense is way too predictable

    use play action
stop running it every 1st down

  13. RojoTears Says:

Lol @ Rojo truthers. He had 3 years to take that job…

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Even though Bucs’ coaches apparently don’t look at stats (and prefer BA’s and BL’s ‘gut feel approach to play-calling’ instead), this game SHOULD call for more running. How much is anyone’s guess, but I’d suspect we’ll have a run-pass ratio around 40% or maybe even a little better. Win the Turnover battle, win the TOP battle and we’ll win the game.

  15. Swampbuc Says:

This would require Leastwich to call plays effectively so that Lenny might have a hole.

First down? Lenny up the middle. First play of the game? Lenny up the middle. We know it, the Giants know it. So No yards for Lenny on those plays. Bucs then in second and long — pass, Giants blitz, Tom panics, incompletions galore.

Lenny gets 11 carries. Bucs lose by two scores.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

I think those predictable plays early on are for Brady to get a read on how the defense will react. My complaint is we tend to bail on the run far to early and get to pass happy. Our defense simply isn’t good enough nor built to lock anyone down if the offense is sputtering. We need to stick with the run a bit and utilize clock, set up the play action, etc. This team isn’t the same team as last year, we have to adapt.

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

Evans, Godwin and Gronk will be on the field, but the 1st 3 plays will go to Fournette, Daerden and Bernard… punt.

  18. Swampbuc Says:

Alanbucsfan — I see you watch the games too.

It would be nice to see Leftwurst open with play action in the two TE formation and hit Brate in the seam. But it won’t happen.

  19. Eddie Marz Says:

GO BUCS! Run throw kick score, just win baby!

  20. Lesko_Brandon Says:

First play, Lenny run in the middle tackle for a loss, 2nd and 13, Brady pass to Fournette but drop the ball, 3rd and 13, Brady pass to Evans, didn’t see the ball coming, 4th and 13 punt….. yawn !!!

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Lesko owns a crystal ball or he’s dvr’d the entire 2021 season thus far.

  22. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Forgot to add on the 3rd and 13, Brady passes the ball to Evans, did not see the ball coming, raises his arm again looking for a PI, refs no flag, and then a punt on 4th and 13 …. yawn !!!! LOL

  23. Bojim Says:

    Hope Barkley doesn’t pound us.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Lesko, EXACTLY! You forgot, BA’s snoring wakes him up and he calls a timeout before the punt.

  25. Craig Says:

I would still like to see him kept on the bench until the fourth quarter, when he can steamroll the Giants. He is not Jonathan Taylor and will end up with around 60 yards if he plays all game.

  26. Buczilla Says:

If we are mentally ready to play, we will destroy this pathetic giants team despite our many injuries. If not, the giants will embarrass us even more than the last two bad teams with bums for quarterbacks did. Daniel Jones is not good, but far better than the last two scrubs we faced.

The giants are about as dysfunctional of a franchise as you can get right now and make the Browns of a few years ago look like the 80’s niners. Dave Gettleman is the worst of the worst and makes Licht’s blunders look like home runs. Who the hell takes a soft, timid, vision less, incapable of running between the tackles running back at number two overall?!? Gettleman also drafted that ringer for Alfred E. Neuman in Jones way too early at 6th overall in 2019. Everyone knows we stole JPP from the giants as well and I could go on, but it’s not worth it. They’re bad from the top down and if we lose to them, I’m going to start researching the draft like a mofo.
