Rare Post-Bye Scenario For Bucs, Washington

November 8th, 2021

WTF head coach Ron Rivera

Sunday’s Tampa Bay-Washington game is sort of like a lunar eclipse.

It’s not that rare of an occurrence, but it certainly feels that way. Both teams are coming off a bye week, which doesn’t happen too often. So throw out the gambling data on how teams fare coming off a bye; usually they’re facing a team that played the previous week.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera has a career record of 4-6 coming off a bye. Coincidence? Joe doesn’t think so. Rivera has had just three winning seasons as a head coach since 2011, so that record sounds on point.

Bucco Bruce Arians is must better after time off. His Arizona and Bucs teams are a combined 5-2 after a bye week.

With both teams coming off a bye for Sunday’s game, Joe isn’t about to speculate now on anything other than to look for Washington to go after the Bucs cornerbacks early and often.

If SMB is back look for them to target him. Burn him or PI call. Dean is good for the same thing too.

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs will find a way to make this close b/c they’re complacent & don’t listen to Bruce anymore. At least 9 penalties

  3. BerrickDrooks Says:

    Trap game

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Darden fumbles a punt & averages -5 yds per return (another great draft pick by Jason Licht).

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Looks to me like Washington was a much better team last year than they have been this year. Doesn’t look like Taylor Heinicke is the answer at QB, but he’s their starter (9 INTs in 8 games & he’s been sacked 14 times). Plus they’ve lost 4 fumbles, so that’s almost 2 TOs & 2 sacks per game average (their 2-6 record kinda reflects that I’d guess).

Their defense seems to have fallen off a cliff this year, ranking #29 in Points Allowed (227 in 8 games … 28.4 PPG) and #29 in Total Yards Allowed (3115 in 8 games … 389 YPG). And their pass defense looks to be especially bad (ranked #32 giving up 287 PPG average).

Anything can happen on any given Sunday, but I think I’d put my money on the Bucs if I were betting.

  6. PassingThru Says:

I don’t think Riverboat Ron is a bad coach, he’s like any other head coach in the NFL in that he needs a quality QB to win.

Despite WFT’s terrible record they gave the Bucs a late scare during the wild card game last season (within 2 points late third quarter) with the likes of Taylor Heinicke. That being said, I think the Bucs will be a bit more focused after that sloppy loss to the Aints.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Didn’t their inexperienced QB give us fits that last time we played them? I think so. So – got to be ready for him. He is a scrambler.

  8. Mike C Says:

Trap game? I think they might remember playing them in the playoffs….

  9. Buc55 Says:

We can’t underestimate any team.. look what the Jags did to the Bills… In the NFL anything can happen if you don’t prepare for each game..
Time to get a good win that puts that NO game behind.. or I’ll end medicated as Pete…

  10. #8 Says:

Until Gronk & AB are back and proved to be healthy, I’ll be worried about putting up the 35 points we need to safely account for the D getting torched.
As we saw this weekend, no NFL team should ever be overlooked.

  11. Mike C Says:

Wait a second Pete, you mean to tell me that a GM missed on a draft pick!? Stop the press!

  12. based weeb Says:

I just realized how overrated Rivera is as a HC. Only 3 seasons with a winning record and he is in his 10th year as a HC lol

  13. PassingThru Says:

I do have to give some praise to Taylor Heinicke, he has moxie and makes the most out of his limited talent. He possesses a below average arm and a slow release. He scrambles to get yardage on the ground as well as give his receivers much needed time for separation.

  14. SufferingSince76 Says:

The way they let a third string QB carve them up, any complacency would be insane. And Pete is acting like Eldumbo Unrealisto. What’s the word on the street, Pete?

  15. Duane Says:

Feature the run. Eat the clock. Dont turn the ball over. Win. This team does have a switch, and this is about the same time they turned it on last season.

  16. BucfaninMi Says:

Nobody knew Hienicki (?) was going to play in WC round. Plenty of film on him now.

  17. Leighroy Says:

So is the whole rest of the schedule full of trap games since we only play 2 teams with winning records? Is Tom Brady still the QB around here?

  18. Adrnagy Says:

    Easy win

  19. Pickgrin Says:

Remember before the season started – when the Foreskins were being talked about as a Super Bowl contender? Not so much now.

Bucs need to come out angry and put a hurting on the WTF is a team without a name franchise.

To me – they will forever be the FORESKINS!

  20. THERUTH Says:

so much negativity, but when we win the bandwagon will be loaded again

  21. TOM Says:

How in the hell do you cut Mickens & stick with Darden who’s done absolutely nothing. Wasted pick.

  22. TOM Says:

How in the hell do you cut Mickens & stick with Darden who’s done absolutely nothing. Wasted pick. One more thing. I am so sick of these lame ass officials. Who ever has the officials in there pockets wins the game. These ass hole officials don’t even try to hide it anymore. I’m sick of it. I don’t watch any NFL games but the Bucs.

  23. alton d green Says:

PLEASE Todd crowd those receivers or Hiney will carve our secondary just like last year. And by the way Bucs. It’s been handed to you on a silver platter. The mighty Rams got clobbered by the Smokey Mtns, Dallas got clobbered by the Pintos, the Saints got whipped by the Canaries. SO THERE IT IS!! Take advantage. Please don’t choke

  24. Sparky Says:

I love the morons ready to call Jaelon Darden a bust after his 3rd game. He’s returned less than 10 kicks/punts and caught 4 balls, and thats proof he’s a bust. Cut him and then go to his mothers house and tell him her son is garbage just to be sure. The High IQs of JBF have spoken!

  25. David Says:

After being embarrassed by the Saints… There are no “TRAP” games. They should be mad at the constant little mistakes and tons of penalties week after week.
They will be fine. I expect a blowout actually.

It’s kind of fun to nitpick about small things when your team is 6-2 and leading the division!! 😂

  26. David Says:

    Sparky…
Completely agree. Darden has hardly touch the ball. His job is to not fumble and be consistent and returns with an occasional big one… Which is exactly what he’s done so far.

The problem is so many people on this site expect every draft back to come in and be a superstar and every position to have an all pro.
They’re completely unrealistic and fail to realize that this is one of the top three rosters in the entire NFL.

  27. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

    BUCCANEERS 34
    FORESKINS. 9

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Somebody here says easy Win? You kiddin me? Washington always plays our Bucs tough. There are no easy wins for a superbowl champ. You get the very best even from the bad teams. Just look at what them Jags did this past Sunday. Bucs need to play hard. because in the NFL on any given Sunday……..

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Man we going to crush Washington easy win !!!

  30. Ed Says:

Just clean it up with the presnap and personal foul penalties. Diversify the offensive and defensive play calls. I am rooting for AB to get back quickly. His big play ability is missing in this offense.

Defensively, tackle better. The short passes that get turned into 15-18 yard gains are usually a result of bad angles. Just grab a leg and hold on, don’t try and make the big hit, they end up overruning the pass catchers. Stop blitzing 40-45% of the plays, its too easy to hit the short passes if they don’t get there and the db’s aren’t challenging WRs at the line.

Offensively. keep defenses off balance. Lets see a little more Gio Bernard on screens and draws. Stop running Fornette on first down until the line gets into a rhythm and opens some holes.

  31. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Gotcha! The Picture of Ron Riviera says WTF head coach Ron Rivera. It should say WFT head coach Ron Riviera.
    LOL WTF ?

  32. brooks Says:

trap were to beat up. we have lots more issues than we know
