Play Of The Year?

November 28th, 2021

Major, major tackle.

If the Bucs play in the Super Bowl in February — and Joe is driving that bandwagon after watching today’s come-from-behind win on the road — the Play of the Year for the Bucs is likely still to come.

As of November 28, and despite how savage AF that game-winning run by Playoff Lenny was, did Mike Edwards have the play of the season? He may have.

Edwards probably had a game-saving tackle on the ensuing kickoff after Playoff Lenny scored to give the Bucs a 38-31 lead with 20 seconds left.

Isaiah Rodgers took the kickoff deep in the end zone and Rodgers damned near scored, returning Bradley Pinion’s kick 72 yards. If not for a desperate, arm-tackle by Edwards to knock Rodgers out of bounds the Bucs may have lost this game. Can you imagine the momentum the Colts would have had if they scored there? Or in the two plays afterward? Holy flirkingschmidt!

The Bucs still have a strong shot of securing homefield advantage in the playoffs. If the Bucs get it and at least host an NFC title game and head back to the Super Bowl, that play by Edwards will be remembered.

If the Bucs lost today because Rodgers scored on that kickoff, there’s virtually no way the Bucs secure homefield advantage.

That Edwards tackle was beyond clutch!

Mike Edwards always shows up…..makes plays……

  2. Dirty Bucs Says:

Edwards has been a very good pick since his rookie year. He might not get as many snaps as other good safeties, but he’s a critical part of this team’s defense and special teams. I’ll take this guy on the team every day and twice on Sunday. He has a ton of heart, and has proven to be the ball hawk he was touted to be when we drafted him out of college.

  3. Howard Cosell Says:

Anyone know which channel will have a replay of this game?

Howard missed a couple of touchdowns because he was hiding in fear of a loss….but never fear….this is another example of a Brady team

  4. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Huge Mike Edwards fan.

    Severely underrated.

  5. Joe Says:

Anyone know which channel will have a replay of this game?

NFL.com may have it now on Game Pass.

Joe is guessing a replay will be shown sometime this week on NFL Network.

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

Godwin and evans where awful. Do they know how to get open two safety deep?

  7. Joe Says:

Godwin and evans where awful. Do they know how to get open two safety deep?

No. Evans and Godwin cannot beat two-safety deep. smh

Eye in the sky doesn’t lie.

    ME don’t.
CG is become more versatile player. I can’t blame him, cause many tasks are assigned to him.
No Gronk, no win. Bottom line.

  9. Francisco Guzman Says:

Joe intermediate routes. Something. They need to learn how to get open in that scheme.

  10. Craig Says:

The only reason Winfield was drafted was because Edwards missed a year with a foot injury that didn’t want to heal.

It is good to see him back, with him and Winfield we have a wicked pair of safeties, because both of them are big play guys.

  11. lambeau Says:

Start Edwards over SMB as the nickel? Seems better to me.

  12. Craig Says:

Evans and Godwin need better plays called for them, it is not their fault that our offense is drowning in vanilla.

  13. Francisco Guzman Says:

Craig i don’t think so. Seems like they where not winning their matchups. Seemed to struggle against two safety deep.

  14. mg Says:

The Bucs need a Edelman to clear the middle and be able to catch low bullets.

  15. JimmyJack Says:

That play saved more then just the game. It saved my luch from coming back up.

  16. PassingThru Says:

Joe is right, Indy was playing two deep safeties. That’s why the outside receivers were having trouble getting open. Brady looked for them, but it was risky given that the pass protection was uneven today.

The smart move was shifting to running plus dink and dunk, with the targets being TE, RB and slot receiving options. Take what the defense gives you.

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

Mike Edwards makes plays that’s for damn sure!

  18. PassingThru Says:

It was the game-saving play by Edwards, but the thing of beauty was that INT by Winfield.

  19. firethecannons Says:

yes Joe is right, that tackle was the play of the game!

  20. Miller5252 Says:

Edward’s play was huge for the Bucs win today! Unfortunately Joe, they should have never needed it. I know I know, let’s not not pick a win, but the way these guys are playing isn’t going to get them anywhere. This Colts team and how they are built played perfectly to the Bucs strengths. Instead of blowing them out, we let another turd of a QB kick us in the teeth and if he didn’t get greedy would have embarrassed us again. This team needs to find something that makes them want to show up because come playoffs, they’ll get run outta the playoffs.

  21. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rams look like complete garbage right now. I don’t if i wanna play this packers squad right now with this defense.

  22. PassingThru Says:

It’s getting late in the season, but I really wish the Bucs spent time developing their short and intermediate passing game. Defenses throughout the league are opting for no blitz, two deep safeties whenever they face a quality QB. Having a sharp dink and dunk offense takes timing and chemistry, but we have Tom Brady, who is master at that kind of attack.

  23. Casual Observer Says:

I thought the incredible interception and runback by Winfield was the game changer.. Perhaps the play of the game.

  24. firethecannons Says:

Joe what is Scotty Miller’s role on special teams? Muff punt recovery specialist? Seems too small to tackle yet he also had an astounding play, he was jonny on the spot!

  25. Jerry Says:

That was turning into another very ugly loss until the Colts coughed it up 4 times.

Slow starts on the road is what’s going to trip up this team in the playoffs. There is no way this team beats GB or ARZ on the road playing first halves like that. And it’s not just one game. It’s literally every single away game this year! There is a coaching failure somewhere.

  27. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Casual Observer

I have to agree……………..cause that was 100% all on him cause it could’ve easily been caught and put 6 points in their favor.

The Bucs needed someone to make an amazing play and he did it.

  28. Joe Says:

That play saved more then just the game. It saved my luch from coming back up.

    You too?

  29. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL 🙂

  30. Oxycodoms Says:

Shaq had play of day sack and recovered fumble. Colts were about to go up 17

  31. Casual Observer Says:

I think Gronk said that Winfield’s interception was the most acrobatic he’d ever seen. High praise indeed.

  32. Bojim Says:

Rodgers shouldn’t have made it that far.

  33. Anonymous Says:

Colts play so much cover 2 and 2 man

  34. Allbuccedup Says:

Best turnover creator Mike Edwards with Winfield a close second.

  35. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

This game was a true all out effort by all three phases trying to give away and to winning the game all in one. It’s just so unfortunate that when the offense got going defense had an infinitely hard time to keeping the lead and then ST gives up a huge a huge return at the most opportune time. Dude was 8 yards deep in the end zone. Who other than our STs does that??? Edwards tackle is a thing a legend! Perfect angle not great technique but by sheer strength threw homie out of the club! You know that returner was just tasting a td just to see the white line he wasn’t expecting to see! All our emotions were brought out in this game

  36. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

That play put to rest some spousal arguments and money…. guys didn’t have the urge to throw their beers thru the tv

  37. Wesley Says:

Mike Edwards is consistently solid. Wish I could say the same for SMB.

  38. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

If we would have had Antonio Brown this game, we would have won by more points, simple as that.
He always unlocks the middle of the field when Evans and Godwin are doubled.

  39. Doctor Stroud Says:

I thought Shaq Barrett’s strip sack when the Colts were up 24-14 and driving was critical (first possession of the second half). This defense thrives on big plays and momentum, but there are huge lulls in between.

  40. The Daily Coroner Says:

Play of the game. Hmm. Winfield’s incredible, acrobatic, TD-saving INT or Edwards’ no-you’re-not-getting-by-me, TD-saving tackle? Tie!

  41. orlbucfan Says:

Mike Edwards is similar to Gholston. They show up every time they play and do their jobs quietly but effectively.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah, the Winfield INT is easily the play of the day – that was amazing, in particular considering the size difference. That was pretty impressive.

Edwards did a nice job of recovering, but there wasn’t anything special about the play. Not dissing him, they needed him to make a play and he made it. IE, he did his job. But what Winfield did was special.

  43. Shark Coast Tactical Says:

It was amazing. History right there. Guys a stud.

  44. Enz Says:

Y’all forgetting 2 of our best players are coming back soon in Davis and AB? I mean, realistically AB is just the best possible remedy to our ailing offense. Davis on the other hand is well…we know who he is and what he means to the team lol. We may not lose again barring injuries honestly.
