Loose Leash On Pass Rushers

Unique freedom

Bucco Bruce Arians is a generous head coach.

Most head coaches go wild about pre-snap penalties. They hate them with a passion. Earning a pre-snap flag is often a ticket to getting chewed out on the sidelines or the next day.

But that’s not the case in every situation at One Buc Palace.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network this evening, Arians explained that his pass rushers are allowed one offsides per game so their aggression isn’t limited.

“We jumped offsides one time [against Miami]. I let our pass rushers get one a game. Try to go get that sack,” Arians explained.

Jason Pierre-Paul was the offender on that offsides coming off the left edge in the first half yesterday.

Joe thinks this is a super cool approach by Arians. Yeah, watch the damn ball and don’t jump offsides, but stay aggressive and play fearlessly.

“Mental errors are way down by far,” Arians said of his team’s overall play. And Arians is pleased that penalties are “way down.” He referred to it all as expected October improvement.

Totally agree with Bruce on this. Shaq Barrett especially can take some of those and I dont have any problems because he is also one of the best in the game at timing those and making hige plays. Havent seen one yet so ya know its coming.

I almost always expect JPP to jump offsides. He lacks burst, when you get older you need some kind of edge. I know everyone loves JPP on this site. Let me say I have great respect for the man. If we’re to be honest though, he’s not what he once was. He looked like a liability the last game, not an asset. At the very least let him heal to the point where that bowling ball can come off his hand. This should be his last year playing. His best days are well behind him.

Gotta give your horses room to run. Great move by a great coach. We are lucky to have him. LFG!!!

The penalties have been going down, and there are some that need to keep going down.

Especially when they are first & goal at the 1。

They need to let JPP heal because it’s just not the same having him out there at half strength. Give him some time off and play the kid Tryon in his place to get some experience. I think that would be best for the team long-term come playoff time.

  8. Greg Says:

@Hodad. All due respect but JPP is no way near 100% He is only out there probably because he insisted on it. Agree and he would agree to his jump is not like what it was but he is still a force and an emotional leader for this group>

except when you have him 20 yds downfield covering a rb on a heel route.
    who does that?
