Hot Comeback For Jamel Dean

October 14th, 2021

Remember when Todd Bowles stepped out of character a few weeks ago and sent cornerback Jamel Dean a message about playing through pain?

Dean was inactive a few days later, but he played through his knee issue on Sunday and tonight in Philadelphia.

And Dean snagged a pick in each of those games, including a gorgeous adjustment for an interception against the Eagles.

Dean recovered from an early and ugly pass interference call tonight and quickly stepped up his game. He turns 26 on Friday and his recovery against the Eagles is a nice birthday gift.

No, Dean isn’t perfect. But he’s the best cornerback the Bucs have healthy right now.

Richard Sherman left the game with a hamstring injury after never looking strong in his first three games. Dee Delaney is an upgrade from Sherman but not enough. Ross Cockrell is thriving at nickel but the Bucs are in trouble if he has to play outside full-time.

Dean must hold down the fort as the No. 1 corner until Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting return, if they return. The more confidence Dean can build the better.

The white substance TB12 had on his right forearm needs to be uncovered. He’s never had that on his arm before. Was it a topical painkiller????????????

  2. Leighroy Says:

Secondary just needs to get through the Bears before heading to NOLA. Hopefully one of the 3 injured CBs is available by then!

  3. SOEbuc Says:

    “if they return.”

Booo. Keep the faith Joe. Doesn’t sound like anyone is out for the year.

COCKRELL WHERES THE OTA PICK SIX!!!

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs need to trade for 2 cb’s b/c they drafted Kyle & Darden (pissed away draft picks)

  5. August 1976 Buc Says:

Some improvement, nice to see the int, but the same overall hit and miss kind of play from Dean.
Yes a somewhat healthy DB, but there was not much to really be excited about, except for the fact Dean was able to finish the game and not get injured more.

    GO BUCS!!!

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Dean is last man up. He got the pick, which was nice, but he was also awful in coverage, could have had even more PI calls against him. Still, I don’t know why the Eagles were throwing at him when Dean is, by far, the best corner we have left. If I’m the Eagles, I just see who Dean is covering, then throw it to the other WR, and they’re going to catch the ball every time.

Hopefully with 10 days off now, the Bucs can find another guy since I guess Sherman is going to be out for a while since hamstrings are the deathnil for old 30+ year old players.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

Darden needs to be returning at least punts. Mickens is garbage and Darden looked like he had upside when he got the small chance.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, the defense gave up 100 yards rushing.

First time since Minnesota, isn’t it?

  9. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Pete

And what rookie 4th round pick is gonna make a difference in our secondary??

  10. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Dean should have had 4 or 5 PI penalties. He got lucky.

  11. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

His PI was too bad. He had great coverage, just never got his head around. Could have been another pick.

  12. Leighroy Says:

Arguing with Pete after midnight is as useless as farting at a tornado.

  13. logan merrick Says:

Dean was average at best. Okay, he got an interception on a bad pass, YAY. He got 4 pbu’s…except on two of them he should’ve been called for pass interference. He once again proved he is sub-par and better QB’s would have picked him apart.

  14. Buc and roll Says:

I’m starting to think it’s a coaching adjustment situation

    after that great start

    and the INT

Score of that game should have been 35 or 42 -7

    let alone Philly’s come back

they did the same thing last week

  15. Pruritus Ani Says:

I m not optimistic.. The Eagles aren’t a very good football team right now and their QB isn’t known for his accuracy. Dean is flagged on far too many plays and eventually, it will cost us a game.

  16. Ash Says:

Hope Davis comes back soon dean did get lucky he didn’t get calls on some clear penalties. He can look really good for one play and God aweful the next not alot consistent play from him.

  17. JimBuc2 Says:

I’m liking Lombardi Lenny a whole lot more these days! Hope head case Rojo is taking notes because #7 has definitely taken over as our starter. Shades of John Riggins, just freaking awesomeness.
    LFG Bucs

  18. LJ'sDaddy Says:

I was relieved when Sherman left. HE is obviously done. He cant hang with anybody. I thought his football smarts would keep him competitive. No dice.

This is a results based business, here is what you arm chair def backs are missing on Jamel Dean

Defense Rules can give the measurable data on this better than I

He got thrown into the fire in first start at Seattle rookie year and got schooled
Learned, improved, and if you remember our defense was very good second half 2019, Dean played very well in this time, look up the numbers

2020 played pretty well , well enough to win it all !

This year he’s played 4 1/4 games he’s played damn well, BA said a personal issue affected his Dallas play
    We are all human

Look at his numbers results you’ll find 35 is a solid corner outside

    It’s just Dean !
