Bruce Arians Not Happy With Defense

October 31st, 2021

Ticked.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians was not a happy camper when he was asked about his defense this evening.

The Bucs defense, which had played so solidly of late, melted down facing its former teammate, Jameis Winston, and a rotten fourth-string quarterback who hadn’t played since early in the 2019 season.

“We gave them easy first downs all day,” Arians said.

Indeed. B

Joe thought Bucs linebacker Devin White committed two iffy penalties. Joe would love to see a referee break down why Devin White’s tackle of Jameis was a horse collar. It almost looked like White had a hold of his sleave where the stripes are located.

That call helped the Saints get a field goal.

Fortunately, White’s next personal foul did not aid New Orleans in scoring any points. On the next slimy Saints possession, White looked to get a hand to the face of fourth-string quarterback Trevor Siemian. White got whistled for roughing the passer.

Asked about White’s two personal fouls, Arians sighed and said, “It speaks for itself.”

Not a happy camper of a coach. And Joe cannot blame him.

Devin White postgame said main thing for the team is they need to get healthy.

That’s part of it, but not all of it.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

“We gave them easy first downs all day,” Arians said.

Wait, is Arians part of the ref crew?

  3. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Wikipedia said a horse collar was changed to the back of the jersey in 2006 🤷‍♂️

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Payton outcoaches Arians and team every time they meet. Do that, then have refs who give free first downs, take INTs off the board, don’t call defensive holding which leads to INTs, and it’s an easy game. Yet, even with all of that, it wasn’t an easy game.

Everything will be fine when we’re not playing the Saints or Rams.

  5. PSL Bob Says:

Joe, re the White horse collar penalty – I looked it up in the rule book and it’s clear that i you grab the back of a player’s jersey at or above the name, it’s a horse collar. I always thought you had to grab inside the shoulder pads. And I guess it’s clear to see why the rule exists.

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

All that you say Rod….. and if Brady doesn’t throw that stupid pick we most likely win.

    STFU with your crying.

  7. Upstate NY BUC Says:

White needs to shut up and stop doing interviews, and make a splash play once In awhile… over rated!!!

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Dooodooshe – What game did Chris Meyers call today? Was it at 4p, did you even see the Bucs game?

  9. BucLife Says:

Rod Munch you are an absolute moron !!! Your takes
are the worst, but please go find another team or site that allows people with the disease you suffer from called “imaeffenidiotness” to talk about

  10. Show Me the TDs Says:

Go do what your name implies, Muncher. Leave the analysis to the adults in the room.

  11. JWBUCS Says:

I am very troubled over the referee calls against the Bucs, yet I saw a hand full of offenses by the Saints that were overlooked…

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Lots of Chris Meyers fans today, all fired up.

  13. 163Doubleplay Says:

Devin White also has a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty giving the Saints a fresh down in the bucs territory

  14. Coburn Says:

I mean I kind of expected the defense wouldn’t be great playimg Cockrell a d Desir in their too 3. Was more disappointed.in the penalties and not being able to wrap up the qb

  15. BucsTommy Says:

I need to agree with the colegue: SP is a way better coach than BA. Buc’s coach is good in creating a players friendly environment but when it comes to strategy, he’s just average. Have to thank Tom Brady for the ring he has as head coach. It’s time to retirment and bring new blood.

  16. Will Says:

OK as much as I love watching the little shows they have on YouTube with Brady and Gronk them Devin with his show. It’s time to stop all that and spend time watching film. Devin White hasn’t looked at all the way he ended the season last year. Hopefully this bye they all take a look in the mirror and come back and start playing the way we fans believe they can.

  17. TampabayDJ82 Says:

As I’ve been saying ALL SEASON , the REF’S are out to get the Bucs for some reason !!! It’s been since the Cowboys game. They call us for holding , BUT I AGAIN watched the AINTS OLINE hold on ALMOST EVERY PLAY !! How about the 2 NO CALL pass interference that should have been called on Lattimore when Evans beat him and he grabbed Evans arm and caused the no touchdown on the first bomb to Evans ?? The call on Will Gholston for roughing the passer when the left tackle was ripping his helmet off so he couldn’t SEE and BARELY BUMPED INTO the QB ?? Bullcrap call’s and NO CALL’S !! Not that the Bucs didn’t deserve some of the calls , but at LEAST call it both ways !! Ref’s cost us the game

  18. TampabayDJ82 Says:

The Ross Cockrell penalty was the right call … The guy is garbage and should be cut during the bye week … Make the trade for a good corner even if it means giving up a 2nd round pick and/or more.. This is the year we have to go all in for the super bowl because we will be losing a LOT OF GREAT PLAYERS NEXT YEAR

  19. Ed Says:

Too many penalties, too many injuries, no running game, and I don’t know what Brady was trying to do on those ints.

  20. Leighroy Says:

How only 1 commenter has mentioned the Devin White taunting after the opponent gained 6 yards on 1st down… both are egregious. The defense is big on talk and light on big sticks against good teams this year.

And what the heck was Gholston doing on that play that negated an INT when he had no helmet? To a man, it seems in the big games this defense is all emotion and no discipline.

  21. ModHairKen Says:

Anyone blaming this loss on officiating is a loser.

  22. Eddie Marz Says:

There’s so much room for improvement it’s not funny. If this team starts to gel they’ll be pretty much unstoppable. Let’s hope that it happens this year, like last year. That they come together after the bye. GO BUCS!

  23. JimmyJack Says:

Im just going to straight up say it. Devin White is playing really bad. Just based off of his standards. Hes not a difference maker, hes not a play maker he just plays like an average dude out there.

Ive been bitimg my tongue on him all year, figuring he would tufn the Quater. To his credit the open field tackle on Kamara to set up the final FG was an excellent play, and one he doesnt make in previous seasons. But he needs to bring more to the table and impact games. Every chance he gets to do something its the same thing……one strp to late.

At the end of the day a Pro Bowl season was a minimum expectation. He is not close to that at all.

  24. Cassius55 Says:

Refs absolutely played a major part in the outcome of this game. If they called consistently – either no calls for both or blatant penalties for both – Bucs win by double digits. I may be a typical homer fan, but I still can’t believe all the no calls for the saints. While this game was pretty frustrating, I would have felt a lot worse if those ‘no call’ infractions by the saints didn’t happen.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

t I think our D will come on strong late in the season. Saints got some help today..But we got a knack/history of getting beat by unknown QB’s. And Brady can’t be perfect all the time. We lost. On to the next game. Bucs will see the Saints at home. They will not forget.

  26. Anonymous Says:

Y’all all need to stop crying y’all lost!!!

  27. firethecannons Says:

The bogus roughing the passer calls negated Winfield interception. Arians needs to get Hochuli over for a visit and get him to explain in a meeting room to all our guys about what they did specifically that led to the penalties. Use the replays of the plays–start holding referees accountable for their bad calls.

  28. Coburn Says:

Even if that was roughing the passer how does that affect him throwing the interception? Rally should just applied on Bucs offense like some other penalties. Had nothing to do with the int

  29. Coburn Says:

Some bad calls early which did affe t game, but we did still have a chance at end we blew

  30. alaskabuc Says:

Devin White is far and away the biggest disappointment of the season. Starting to feel like he is Kwon 2.0, starting to look like the end of last year was an abnormality and this year is more indicative of the true player he is.

  31. alaskabuc Says:

@Anonymous- hit the “trucking” road, troll.

  32. Rico210 aka wutdaBucisthis Says:

We all love our Bucs, they lost this game as a team. From coaching to players not making plays. Embracing the failures and correcting them is needed. This team lacks discipline. I’m sure it’ll be corrected. Just get it done.
    Go Bucs

  33. Victor Range Range Says:

Well it’s like this for one Everytime it comes to Tampa Bay BUCS verses the Saints the Refs always called in favor of the Saints.

  34. Justafan Says:

The bright minds (NOT) claiming Payton is a better coach than B.A
are better comedians than analyst. What dumb ass would throw passes (incomplete) when the BUCS had 1 timeout, and leave enough time for Brady to get in field goal range?????
