Antoine Winfield Clears Concussion Protocol; Ready For Sunday

October 21st, 2021

Great news from Bucco Bruce Arians.

One of the many wounded starters in the Bucs’ secondary is ready to return on Sunday. Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio today, Arians announced that safety Antoine Winfield, Jr., has cleared the NFL concussion protocol and is ready to play Sunday against the Bears.

Winfield got the concussion against New England, a game in which he had a forced fumble and an interception.

Winfield’s return would send Mike Edwards to the bench. Edwards played all but one snap in Winfield’s absence but did little to raise his stock as a starter the last two games.

Can he bring back SMB who he knocked-out for the season and is costing us a Superbowl???? And has he gotten over his COMPLACENCY???????????

    Welcome back stud puppy!

He’s going to make a play this weekend that helps us win a ball game.

@Joe … ‘Edwards did little to raise his stock as a starter the last two games.’

Kinda harsh. I thought that Edwards filled in very nicely as a Safety. Against Miami he had 6 tackles (5 solo), was targeted 2 times & allowed 1 completion (also blitzed twice & got credit for 1 Pressure). Against Philly he had 4 tackles (1 solo), was targeted 3 times & allowed 1 completion.

Those 5 targets with only 2 completions allowed (40%) was second only to what Dean accomplished in those 2 games (targeted 12 times; allowed 2 completions … wow). And on the season his 63.2% completions allowed (19 targets, 12 completions) are the exact same numbers that Jordan Whitehead has, and better than what Winfield has. Mike holds his own very nicely back there IMO, especially in the INT area.

Hopefully Winfield will be as good as he was in that Patiots game. Befire then he had gotten off to a really slow start.

If we get him back and hes making splash plays it will be a big boost to the secondary.

  7. Mike Says:

Glad to have him back. He’s a smart, hard nosed player and the Bucs could use that right now in the secondary.

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

Oh yeah Pete, SMB was really doing an outstanding job before he got hurt.
    😂

Defense rules. You of all people know Joe writes what he thinks and not necessarily what is reality. Thats his thing. You know like you dont draft a middle linebacker or a guard in the top 10 etc. Everyone knows Edwards played well and he will probably play more nickle this week with the cornerbacks so depleted and with winfield back. It only makes sense to put your best players out there and he by far has the best hands in the secondary.

  10. DaBux Says:

Good. We need the kid back there badly and now Edwards can play nickel or corner.

    Nice.

I know you’re a Doosh Larue but I think SMB had like a pick in every playoff game last year before he went down in week one.

The dig @ edwards was uncalled for… he’s a great player for this team

    Yay!!

  16. Coburn Says:

Yeah Webster. Was just about to post about why wouldn’t we try to have all 3 safeties on the field with injuries at corner. If I recall Edwards had spent some time at nickel

Best news I’ve heard all week!
