“A Lot More This Year”

October 11th, 2021

Chris Godwin

Defensive coordinators are constantly seeking the formula to slow the Buccaneers.

You know the Bucs, the team averaging 33-plus points per game through their last 13 matchups.

It’s futile with all of Tampa Bay’s weapons, but adjustments are being made by the guys paid to make them.

Mike Evans, the greatest receiver in Bucs history, revealed one thing different this season, something that’s fueling big starts for him and Antonio Brown.

“Sometimes Chris [Godwin] gets the coverage a lot in the slot; it’s showing a lot more this year. So that helps us on the outside,” Evans said today.

Joe has to laugh. What’s a defense to do to stop the Bucs offense when it’s healthy?

Even with extra attention on Godwin, he’s on pace for 100 receptions and another Pro Bowl-caliber year.

Good luck to defenses around the league if they shift toward giving Godwin more 1-on-1 opportunities.

As Joe detailed earlier today, the Hall of Fame might soon have to update its website if the Bucs’ mighty trio keeps rolling through December.

It would be so nice to keep the entire offense together again next year, but that’s going to be tough.

  2. EA Says:

The formula is to pressure Brady up the middle.

  3. Youngbucs Says:

EA they where he was still slinging it.

  4. Devin DiPalma Says:

EA, good luck. Happened several times yesterday and brady threw bullets to ab, Bernard, and godwin. When brady plays like he did yesterday they’re pretty much unstoppable. The only game brady has looked human was the pats game and I chalk that more up to nerves and weather. Even against the rams he moved the ball at will. Our defense lost that game for us.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

I thought Tyler Johnson looked impressive Sunday as well. Another (this one unheralded) weapon in the arsenal.

  6. Winny Testaverde Says:

Antonio Brown resurrecting his career before our very eyes has made this offense truly elite. Thanks, Tom!

  7. Bojim Says:

    Thks EA. 🙄

  8. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    They can’t stop em all.
No need to list all the names here.

  9. Casual Observer Says:

If all stay healthy, perhaps the greatest passing attack in NFL history.

  10. TheShaz Says:

    Wanna slow the Bucs offense?

Make it rain and get Tom Brady emotional – the @ Patriots game is the only time so far this season he was slowed down.

  11. Bucs&Bolts Says:

I think Brady is doing a phenomenal job of spreading the ball around shoot even Tyler Johnson had some touches

  12. Robert Says:

it would be nice if ME would stop tripping on his own feet and losing balls in the sun.

  13. webster Says:

Evans must use roberts girl however he pleases and returns her whenever he pleases. I have never seen a an idiot post the dumbest crap about evans and all evans does is keep producing and robert continues to look like an idiot. Please tell us what did evans do to you? No one in the nfl (see his rankings in the top 100 LISTS) view evans as you do but you want to spew the narrative evans sucks. Please tell us what did evans do to you and while you are at it, also tell us what color is grass and the sky in your world?

  14. Duane Says:

You have to double ME13, and when you cant in the red zone, you realize why you have to double ME13. Godwin has to be difficult to double in the slot, and if you choose to double AB, refer back to why you should double ME13 instead. Good Luck NFL. Tyler Johnson is racking up snaps and making plays as well.

  15. David Says:

The greatest formula to stop every team, whether it is Brady or Patrick Mahomes, is what the BUCS did in the playoff run –
Stuff the run and get to the QB with 4 (sometimes 5)

  16. SlyPirate Says:

More AB … never thought I’d say that.

Only guy on the Bucs that can take it to the house on any given play.

  17. Wild Bill Says:

Mike, Godwin and AB! Now add in a healthy Gronk! That’s a real nightmare for any defense. Except maybe the Rams.

  18. 163Doubleplay Says:

Teams will just immitate what the Rams and Patriots did to slow down our offense. Hopefully,BL will use his imaginations to generate more creative plays.

  19. Rico210 aka wutdaBucisthis Says:

I’m just glad so many here are now on the AB train. This offense needs to deliver a 50 burger
    Go Bucs
