The Kicking Gods Finally Smile On Bucs

September 10th, 2021

Game-winner.

For once the dreaded south end zone helped out the Bucs.

Bucs fans still have PTSD from years of truly horrid kicking during The Lost Decade. And the goal posts in the south end zone seemed particularly harsh.

Tonight, finally, the Bucs were on the winning edge of the south end zone curse on a too-close 31-29 win to open the 2021 season over the Cowboys.

Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein missed three kicks in the south end zone. Two field goals and an extra point in the two-point win. To be fair, one field goal was a 60-yard prayer that landed maybe two yards short of the crossbar.

Yes, the fans in the south end zone were doing their best to hex Zuerlein.

How much were the kicking gods smiling on the Bucs?

Ryan Succop’s 36-yard field goal with two seconds left in that same end zone gave the Bucs a win that maybe you could argue they shouldn’t have won after lots of leaky defense.

But hey, after so many years watching Bucs kickers gag in the south end zone worse than someone at MacDinton’s on their 21st birthday, Joe sure enjoyed another team puking there.

    Amazing!

Perhaps TB has been generating a confident environment for the Bucs player. They are not worried to make a mistake, because TB will cover for them.

Isn’t the punter, Anger, now a common denominator across multiple kickers’ south end zone woes?

  12. Eddie Marz Says:

A win is a win. GO BUCS!

  13. Danr Says:

Bush. Anger is the problem accross multiple teams kicking woes going back to when he was on the jaguars.

Succup is clutch! Happy for the win, but it shouldn’t have been this close. Godwin’s fumble at the end zone, ROJO’s fumble, and Fournette’s easy catch that went through his hands for an interception\ion. The last two gave Dallas excellent field position and Godwin’s miscue took a clear 6 points off the scoreboard. Even with the porous secondary and inadequate pass rush, this game should not have come down to a last second(s) field goal.
