Richard Sherman: Might Take A Week To Be Game-Ready

September 29th, 2021

Bucs CB Richard Sherman.

Of course many Bucs fans want to know when new Bucs corner Richard Sherman can take the field for the Bucs.

(Sherman will wear No. 5 to honor his son who was born on Feb. 5. No, Sherman is not trying to channel leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman.)

So both Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians and Sherman were asked when he could take the field. Arians all but said against Miami a week from Sunday would be a fair goal.

Arians didn’t rule out Sherman playing in New England this Sunday but suggested there would have to be a rash of injuries for that to happen.

Sherman said it would take him about a week and it might be “foolish” to expect him to play at New England. He was just learning defensive plays on the practice fields on One Buc Palace this morning, he added.

Even though Sherman is a smart guy, if he is just now learning plays, that would be one helluva crash course for him to digest Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles’ playbook in four days.

Take your time, Mr. Sherman. Me thinks the DBs will ALL suddenly be better just by hearing you walk in the door. Perform or ride the pine.

  2. BA4President Says:

Joe, do you imagine it’s likely they dress him in NE and just put him on the back of the depth chart? That way, he’s only used if the CB injuries continue… Or do you figure they would rather play a practice squad-esq player who knows the playbook better in that scenario?

About 3-4 points lower than Winston on the Wonderlic, his IQ may be slightly overrated (Winston had a Stanford offer as well). Hoping his football IQ is much higher.

  4. MadMax Says:

Sherman is experienced enough….play him the first series and only sit if we are blowing them out…LFG!!!

  5. Bucfan81 Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play for a couple weeks until we play the Eagles on Thursday night football. that gives him 2 weeks to get in game shape and to learn the defense.

  6. Buc4evr Says:

How could Sherman do any worse than Delaney? Even if he doesn’t know the Playbook he can play in man coverage situations and shutdown most WRs.

  7. Bojim Says:

    Not playing this week.

  8. Elita Vita Says:

I trust Arians and Bowles will best know if he will be an asset on the field this Sunday. Yes, they will not put him on the field if he will be a greater liability than any other option available…..Go Bucs!

  9. PSL Bob Says:

I hope this works out. But, as others have said, couldn’t get any worse than what we witnessed on Sunday.

  10. Tim R. Says:

Take the time needed to fully digest the play book. We need you to be 100 percent mentally and physically. It will be a thrill to have you on the field. We will survive this weekend in New England.

    IZOD…don’t look know… But Gabbert had a 42.

Number 5? That should be a real Thriller!

    ^ haha

    IDK.

The Bucs can outscore the next four opponents.

Why not mix in Sherman for a few downs?

  15. Buxszntkt Says:

Too bad we can’t dress Sherman up as 43. McDaniels would be calling passes over 43’s way all day.

  16. Chris Flores Says:

A few hours of film, a couple of conversations with Brady and Sherman will be ready to go
