Bruce Arians Remembers His Battles With Richard Sherman

September 29th, 2021

All smiles today.

Sometimes Joe misses the forest for the trees. This should have been obvious and Joe didn’t pick up on it until Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians mentioned it.

Arians has game-planned and studied new Bucs corner Richard Sherman a lot. Not just recently, but when Arians coached the Cardinals. Being an NFC division rival of the Seahawks, Arians had to game-plan against (around?) Sherman twice a year.

Usually, when an Arians-coached team signs a veteran in the middle of a season, it is often someone with whom Arians has a past.

Sherman never played for Arians. But alas, Arians has studied enough tape of Sherman to know how he could help out the Bucs.

“He’s a veteran, experienced guy,” Arians said. “He’s been a Pro Bowl player. One of the smartest guys — having gone against him it’s really odd to see him on our team.

“We’ve battled many, many times over the years. We’re really glad to have him. And obviously, he has a lot to learn and get him to football speed right now.

“It’s a really good addition.”

So while Sherman doesn’t have a background with Arians or Bowles, Arians knows Sherman’s skillset as well as anyone in the league not named “Kyle Shanahan” or “Pete Carroll.”

Joe thinks it is safe to say that if Arians likes a veteran player, that alone suggests this is a good move.

I just wanna know how much it cost us… if under 5mil we killed it again

  2. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Don’t be surprised if Sherman signed for significantly less, but will slingshot off of Brady/Bucs Superbowl and a big personality to do well off the field with endorsements.

  3. Ash Says:

It was 1.5 mil with incentives I believe not bad at all

  4. Iamabuc Says:

My problem with him: I heard a lot of me, me, me , “our powers combined”, and such. Just hoping this doesn’t come back and bite us in the ass. Just saying.

Good point @Imabuc… So did AB… It’s confidence… But that changed to US very quickly. It’s the Brady way

  6. Stanglassman Says:

I want to read the article on BA’s comments that Bill B. Copies HIS offensive passing game. Clap back on Bills presser where he said the Brady and the Bucs were 100% using his playbook.

Winfield’s father battled Sherman too: 2012 Hawks vs Vikings.
