Call From Tom Brady Sealed Decision For Richard Sherman

September 29th, 2021

Call Tom Brady “The Closer.”

When you look at the Bucs roster, the makeup has Tom Brady’s fingerprints all over it.

We know Brady was influential in foot-rubbing, car-littering film guru Rob Gronkowski coming to the Bucs. We also know Brady was a catalyst for Antonio Brown.

Giovani Benard has admitted the chance to play with Brady was a lure.

And Joe strongly suspects there are other players on the roster that are either indirectly or directly playing iTforampa Bay because of Brady.

Well, now we know Brady’s phone call to Richard Sherman closed the deal on the Bucs’ pursuit of the All-Pro cornerback.

Yeah, Sherman said, the Bucs were the most aggressive team trying to obtain his talents. But Brady calling him convinced him.

“I always thought it would be really cool to play [with Brady] if we had the opportunity,” Sherman said, noting he and Brady have been tight for years. “It’s crazy how things shake out.”

Sherman pointed out that him hollering at Brady after the Seahawks beat the Belicheats was just the heat of the moment of victory. The two have been close — before and after that moment — Sherman said.

Brady apparently was so persuasive that Sherman said even his wife Ashley was sold.

“Tom has actually called,” Sherman said of he and his wife weighing their options. “Once he calls, you better come or you are going to regret not coming.”

Sherman did say the final say was with his wife.

“The biggest part is your wife,” Sherman said. “[A lot] is what she has to say. She’s the one that checks off the box. That was the final go-ahead. When she says, ‘You can go across the country and I hold down the ship’ — that was a huge part of it.”

As for joining the loaded Bucs roster, Sherman seemed genuinely excited.

“It’s fun with our powers combined.”

  1. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard and Medicated Pete remember the days when free agents laughed at the the prospect of joining the Bucs.

  2. PSL Bob Says:

Oh, this is not good. Sherman coming to Tampa sans wife. The temptations are pretty strong in the Tampa Bay area. Please stay out of trouble Richard.

  3. Tye Says:

Yes, Howard, and the memes of coaches walking in, seeing the QB, turn around and leaving! LoL

  4. Bird Says:

    So howard

You and medicated pete are the same person
    And talk in third person

  5. Buxszntkt Says:

LOL, maybe the Bucs bought him a VIP card for the space ship on Dale Mabry!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sounds to me like Sherman being here without his wife may be a good thing….

As for Brady’s part………Come on, Joe…..let’s add “free-agent recruiting” to Tom’s monikers…….after all you have silly monikers like “waffle-grilling” why not something as important as “free-agent recruiting”?

The monikers have become so ridiculous…..why not add away!!!

  7. PassingThru Says:

Sherman and Brady have come a long way since, “You mad bro?”

  8. Craig Says:

Maybe he threw in a lifetime supply of TB12 stuff and a chance of coaching the defensive backfield.

Still don’t understand how Bowles thinks a bunch of bump and run backs can do zone defense, without a lot more yelling at them to stop lining up 12 yards away on a 3rd and 3.

All the line needs is a few moments hesitation by the opposing QB to start teeing off on them.

  9. DaBux Says:

Finally, someone with experience to help the young players and lead them. While he’s not 2016 Sherman, he’ll cause problems because the minute you misread his positioning, he’ll snipe an INT.

    Great signing!

  10. Swampbuc Says:

I’m a little warm in the loins about this guy. Hey Ronde was still effective in his last years without blazing speed. Maybe Sherm can have that role.

  11. David Says:

I hope he’s in game shape. And everyone needs to realize it’s going to take a few weeks for him to gel with the DBs and the scheme.

The absolute biggest thing is… Where the F is the pass rush? Where is Shaq and Devon blitzing?

  12. Al Says:

Sherman drove Tom crazy. Brady never would pass on Sherman side.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Now this is one time where I hope the team didn’t bend to the will of Brady too much. I absolutely believe you should do everything to make him happy, but on defense, we badly need speed. If Sherman can’t run, he’s not going to help the defense and could make things worse. Hopefully the team told Brady just that — we would love to add him to the roster, BUT we have to make sure he still has playable speed. Just get Brady to sign off on that, then you can do a fair workout.

Then again if signing and old busted up Sherman who can’t run keeps Brady happy, then sign him no matter how his workout went. But I’ll assume the team did a real workout, and hopefully were very happy with his performance.

  14. Mr Bean Says:

Rod Munch – you summed it up perfectly. I hope they did not do it just for Brady. And I hope they did their due diligence and worked him out. My information is that he cannot run anymore and I hope I am wrong.

  15. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

They did it for the team,, who’s secondary is good awful, BUCS wanted him, Brady just tried to make it happen,, using his influence,, doubt Brady said oh man get Sherman for me,,

  16. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I keep calling the contemporary Buccaneer franchise a class organization. So as not to belabor the point I’ll just say think about this from time to time over the next couple of years or so.
    Go Bucs!

  17. Bucschamp Says:

his input vs Rams is the key.

  18. John Sullivan Says:

Way to go Bucs. Start blitzing more often. With you all the way.

  19. Mustachechuck Says:

As I said yesterday Brady and Sherman have been friends a long time it’s folk lore here in the North East now let’s hope the NFL lets him play there is a ex NY Jet in front office of NFL who makes life difficult for Players and he enjoys it hopefully the Commissioner will hold off till after all the court cases are done Richard Sherman is a very smart man High IQ we can say prayers go Bucs It’s crazy up here fans love Tom and there turning on coach BB giving him the business

  20. B-Bro Says:

Wayta Go we are hurting in the d-back area.

  21. MarkR Says:

One of the smartest DBs to ever play the game. As of 2019 still had the straight-line speed to defend the long pass one-on-one against top receivers. The issue here is whether he can stay healthy. In the last four years (2017-2020) injuries have kept him off the field and diminished his ability to make sharp cuts when on it. A proven competitor who won’t shy away from the moment.

  22. UncleHemorrhoid Says:

    Bucs will miss the playoff’s.

  23. Greg Says:

18-2 season maybe 17-3 , gotta gel defensively fast tho.

  24. teacherman777 Says:

    He’s not #1 CB anymore.

    But he’s a damn good #2 CB.
