Steve Smith: Bucs Have No. 3 Red Zone Threat And His Name Is Tom Brady

August 20th, 2021

Admits mistake.

So Joe has been to all 20 of the Bucs practices through the first four weeks of Camp Cupcake.

Four more to go.

The one cool thing — even though Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians often has his wall of humanity blocking any decent view of the plays — is when the Bucs start practicing red zone offense.

Joe tries to soak it in. Because with the weapons the Bucs have, red zone offense (or even two-minute drill periods) is a work of beauty.

And while picking the top-10 red zone threats in the NFL for 2021, mouthy former receiver Steve Smith believes the best weapon the Bucs have isn’t the guy catching any footballs.

It’s the guy throwing the footballs.

That would be park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

On their way to a Super Bowl LV victory, the Buccaneers converted scores on 68.9 percent of their trips to the red zone last season, ranking seventh in the NFL. A lot of that success has to do with the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. He’s seen every coverage in his 21-year career and understands the game better than anyone. Brady sliced and diced defenses in the red zone in 2020, tossing 28 touchdowns while not throwing a single pick.

Back in January, I put my foot in my mouth when I predicted that Brady and the Bucs would be bounced in the first round of the playoffs. I’m not going to make that mistake again.

You know, that’s very big of Smith to say, “My bad. I screwed up.” Most guys, especially ex-players, would pretend as if they never said how the Bucs would get “ran” from the playoffs right away instead of winning the Super Bowl.

So Joe doffs his cap in appreciation of Smith manning up and confessing his bad take.

Wow!! He actually manned up and said I made a mistake. See how easy that was. He predicted something that was way way wrong. Yet he didn’t try to o justify it with this stat or that play or got lucky. Nope he said that m not making that mistake again. Good on him, my respect for him m went up a few notches

  2. Long John Says:

    Still a punk!

  3. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Awww John didn’t she forgive you when she found out you weren’t long? 😱 Just playing but yeah he is. Atleast he manned up and said outright he was wrong and since then has flipped his script. Too bad so many still out there really don’t want to admit they were wrong or give the Bucs their due.

  4. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

Its hard for a outsider to understand the psychological leadership that the GOAT brings to a team …….. TG12 got everyone to believe and execute properly…. The results speak for themselves .

Lets hope 2021 is as much fun …. excited for the season.

At least he ate his crow unlike some posters here. Some went in to hiding some still here. Talking nonsense even after being proven wrong smh.

  6. Eddie Marz Says:

Just goes to show most of the commentators you see on TV don’t know jack. They talk a lot, but not necessarily from their mouth. GO BUCS!

  7. Jason Says:

Drunkinybor and Long John are both right. LoL.

  8. ClodHopper Says:

Steve Smith sure doesn’t write the way he talks. Call me a conspiracy theorist but this looks to me like Biff is having someone else do his homework.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe won’t like this but Brady will be even a greater threat in the red zone with Gio in the backfield.

  10. Beeej Says:

SOOO…. Something like 41 trips, mebbe 150 total plays? Not ONE. SINGLE. &5#*€^ING. PICK.

  11. SOEbuc Says:

Who is one and two? Nothing short of the best WR and TE corp in the NFL in a very long time. Now Tom got the third down back he HAD to have in order to win. Gio is looking hot, hot, hot.

  12. Beeej Says:

We would have had more red zone trips absent all those long TD passes to Scotty

  13. BA4President Says:

Even as a Bucs fan, I can say that Steve Smith is the dude.

  14. buc15 Says:

Smith also said last year that the Bucs will get embarrassed in the playoffs so there’s that
