“Rougher Than Anybody On The Team”

August 7th, 2021

JPP opens up

It’s very rare to hear a player compare his injury woes to those of teammates.

But that’s what came from the mouth of Jason Pierre-Paul yesterday.

JPP wants fans to know how much he suffered last season playing through a bad knee — and how much better he should be in 2021.

“I had a knee procedure over this summer actually. Yeah, it’s good. I’m out there being like it ain’t nothing,” JPP said. “What I had to do last year to get to the Super Bowl was rough, rougher than anybody on the team. You know what I mean? But I made it through last year but I can’t even imagine what I’m going to do this year because I know I’m fully healthy.”

With four forced fumbles, six passes defensed and two picks during last year’s regular season, in addition to his 9 1/2 sacks, how much can JPP improve? Joe can’t wait to find out.

It should help that JPP is in a contract year and very, very hungry for respect.

What a great time to be a buc fan!

  2. Tkras red Bozo lips Says:

Jason Licht keeping JPP after breaking his neck in the single car accident was a risk that paid off HUGE

  3. Aceofaerospace Says:

Wow. The gift that keeps on giving.

  4. Tkras red Bozo lips Says:

JPP has 89 sacks. You KNOW he’s trying to get to 100 & another ring so he has a chance to be a HOF’er

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

100 sacks and 3 rings should be a lock for the HOF

  6. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    Rougher than OJ?

  7. Marine Buc Says:

As a very wise man said “we are a collection of choices”…

  8. SteveK Says:

JPP’s competitiveness and and mindset might be as strong or stronger than his all-world athletic ability?

Please resign this guy after he kicks ass, has a dozen sacks, and another big playoff campaign on our way to repeating and putting Patty Mahomes in a touchdown free timeout.

JPP, Suh, Vea, Lavonte, Shaq and White. Give me six guys with more fire and guts than these six. If they are all healthy, the DBs are probably going to average 2 picks a game because opposing QBs are going to have to throw 35-40 times a game.

I think JPP is already HOF because 2 SBs with two different teams and the return after the catastrophic hand injury and broken neck with significant impact is HOF material.

Everything seems so great this year it makes my eyes water with anticipation.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

To me this higlights a big difference in mindset between this defense and the defenses led by Gerald McCoy.

Yeah, JPP played through injury. And you never heard a peep about it during the season. Whenever McCoy got hurt it was always a big headline. The guy was constantly praised for playing through injuries…….As it turns out its not all that special. Difference is most guys dont make a spectacle of it.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

JPP is my Favorite Buc on defense.
Trading for him, was the beginning of turning this terrible franchise around.
He has proven himself to be both tough and tenacious.
    The relentless QB hunter.

Love the way he plays hard every play. I hope he makes it to the Hall of Fame

  13. David Says:

That’s what I keep saying… A healthy JPP and an extremely motivated Shaq… I asked back 25 sacks between the 2 of them.

I hope rookie Joe learns everything he can from them because he is going to be needed since he is the depth (along with Nelson)

  14. SOEbuc Says:

Vea is the X factor on defense. Keep him healthy and everything will fall into place.

  15. Bruce Blahak Says:

Pinch me…a “bucs life” couldn’t get any better! Knock on wood, everything seems to be rolling along, and avoiding the devastating injuries, so far. By a wide margin, the best team in the NFL at august 8, 2021.

  16. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@Marine Buc, I like that: “we are a collection of choices”

  17. Beeej Says:

Bucs are playing the Giants on MNF this year, JPP has been waiting for this day for quite some time

  18. Brandon Says:

JPP has now played the Giants twice. He hasn’t waited that long.

  19. Beeej Says:

I’m fairly confident that he would like to play them every week were it possible

  20. Stanglassman Says:

Jack burden- Had OJ played though his injury what you said would make sense.
