“He Gave Up That Sack”

August 26th, 2021

Tristan Wirfs

The official ruling is in.

That ugly sack of Tom Brady in the opening drive of the opening preseason game, man, Joe was surprised so many people were overthinking what they saw.

Manbeast right tackle Tristan Wirfs was blocking his man and he got beat. Down goes Brady.

Joe read all kinds of speculation that it was really guard Alex Cappa’s fault.

Today, Bucs running game coordinator co-offensive line coach Harold Goodwin set the record straight on that play.

“[Wirfs] gave up that sack just kind of oversetting the guy,” Goodwin explained. He noted that the blunder gave Goodwin something to harp on with Wirfs, who he called an All-Pro.

Yeah, Wirfs is so damn good. The guy gives up a sack and nobody wants to believe it happened. The guy’s a walking X-file.

As long as Tommy wasn’t hurt, give that one up in the preseason. Get it out of your system big guy.

That’s why I said back when it happened that only the coaching staff knows for sure. And that’s why you have to approach any analyst grades from PFF with a critical eye. They know know either, they’re just making a best guess. They don’t know the blocking assignments, and neither do we.

On pass blocking plays you’ll see the OLine back up (which is why OLine men hate pass blocking). To me it looked like Cappa hesitated while Wirfs backed up (Jensen was looking for someone to block, nobody came through his gap). With Wirfs falling back and Cappa not, a rushing lane to the QB was created for the OLB Ossai. As he was making a move to slip past Wirfs you see Wirfs not making any lateral move to intercept, instead he’s turning his head as if Cappa should be there and he (Wirfs) should find the DE who would be sure to follow through on the outside.

A wakeup call is often needed no matter how good the player…..or team….is.

    This kid is the truth.

Bust him now, and watch him kick ass all year!

  5. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete told ya’ll Dick Stroud was wrong for blaming Cappa.

  6. Hodad Says:

Oh no! You mean he’s human?

  7. Gofortheface30 Says:

Be that as it may, Cappa is getting his ass whupped. Even that long throw by Brady to AB – Brady couldn’t step in to it and get everything on it because of 65. I understand Cappa has been out a while but can’t have that, will be interesting to see who starts at RG Sat when starters play the entire first half

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

No shame, the Titans are a great team. It happens.

  9. webster Says:

Well chris we were playing the bengals when wirfs gave up the sack. He did not play against the titans but your point is taken.

Pete if rick stroud was the only one who said it was cappa who gave up the sack. We had many jbf posters ie arm chair gms/coaches who supposedly know more than bill parcells on these pages breaking down the play so “scientifically” that it was cappa’s fault. Funny how that works.

    Bust! Lmfao 🤣

  11. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

Chris, that happened against the bungals…

  12. Infomeplease Says:

That was preseason… TW hasn’t given up a single sack during the 2021 regular season!!!!

  13. JimmyJack Says:

One sack given up in your first live action in 6 months is no reason for concern. He just has to make up for it on Saturday and dominate.

    Khalil Mack?

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard thinks that Wirfs should be known as Paul Bunyan.

  16. cmurda Says:

No way. Maybe there are aliens but no way Wirfs could give up a sack. Could he?

  17. Lou. Says:

    @BucCheeks —

    2021 season?

Gotta check the fine print. Or the regular print.

  18. Alan Collingwood Says:

No less a personage than future HOF left tackle Joe Thomas tweeted after watching a Bucs game “Tristan Wirfs is really damn good”

  19. BA4President Says:

That’s why he should be considered top-3 Bucs offensive players!

    1. Goat
    2. Evans
    3. Wirfs
