Lavonte David Finally Getting His Due?

July 20th, 2021

Props from Hall of Famer.

Lavonte David may be the most underrated linebacker in the game. But that may be changing.

Why the change? It’s called “a ring,” which brings credibility. And it doesn’t hurt that folks are paying a lot more attention to the Bucs now that they are winners.

One cat with a lot of street cred is former Broncos running back and current Hall of Fame player Terrell Davis. Recently, Davis appeared on NFL Network’s “Total Access” and ranked his top-five linebackers.

A Bucs linebacker was on his list — and it isn’t Devin White. No, it’s David.

“At No. 2, I am going with Lavonte David,” Davis began. “Going into his 10th season, just won a Super Bowl for the Buccaneers. Man, this guy has been a really good player. Fast guy. Even though he gets out of place on some plays, he’s able to make up for that. And really to me, he’s the guy that brought on Devin White and got him playing the way he is playing.”

David selected Bobby Wagner from the Seahawks as his No. 1 linebacker.

It was cool of Davis to rank David that high and crediting him for White becoming the player he has become.

That is high praise to Joe, coming from a Hall of Fame running back. Bucs legend Derrick Brooks also has talked multiple times about how critical David has been for White.

Don’t disagree with LVD in top five but White should be there also….

  2. Mickman Says:

Not so sure he should be ranked above White, top 5 yes but not above White.

  3. Youngbucs Says:

LVD stats are better than Wagner 🤯

  4. PSL Bob Says:

What a tandem! Best in the NFL.

  5. SteveK Says:

In about 9-10 years, Ira/Manbeast Intern Zach should make the HOF speech for Lavonte.

All you have to do is put up his stats with Luke Keuchly’s and other Off the ball backers from his time. Lavonte is arguably the best of the bunch.

Too bad Slo Bowl balloting involves so much of a popularity contest. Teams worse than the Bucs got players in who aren’t even close to the player Mr. David is, the shame!

  7. Drunkinybor Says:

I don’t get the live fest for Bobby. He’s good but he’s not a Derrick Brooks, or Ray Lewis. Yet he’s been too how many pro bowls. It’s all about reputation

  8. Buczilla Says:

Wagner has long been overrated. Both David and Devin make him look below average at best.

  9. webster Says:

Just ask brooks how much hardy helped him. He knows what it looks like. Even white praises lvd for his development.

Trust this, I’d we make it back to another Super Bowl this year then LVD is gunna blow up in the public eye if he’s still producing. His numbers destroy most active LBS by a mile, has been too 5 his entire career and never left. Just wait till more national exposure is brought about our defense this coming season

White has not put up the consistent body of work that LVD has. Some of you fall in love way too easily.
