Tristan Wirfs Makes All-Under-25 Team

July 20th, 2021

Bucs RT Tristan Wirfs.

No, Joe realizes this isn’t really news. If Tristan Wirfs wasn’t on the list, it would be news.

Still, Joe finds it cool that the Bucs have a right tackle just about anyone with a working pair of eyes can see is a freaking stud. That would be Wirfs.

In selecting his NFL All-Under-25 offensive team, Jordan Dajani of CBS listed Wirfs as his starter.

… The No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft played and started in all 16 games, and allowed just one sack in 799 pass-blocking snaps, according to PFF. Sure, Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time, but he’s not the most nimble signal-caller in the NFL. He usually just went down if a defender broke through the line last year, but Wirfs and this offensive front as a whole did a great job keeping him upright.

If Joe would have asked Bucs fans before last season what they would think of Wirfs if he allowed five sacks, just about every Bucs fan would have called that a fine season for the rookie from Iowa.

It took one of the best players in the NFL to get a sack on Wirfs — no fluke from some no-name defensive end.

For Joe, it’s hard to decide who is the best draft pick by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, Mike Evans or Wirfs.

Right now, it is Evans. But Joe senses in the coming years, Wirfs will give Evans a run for his money as being Licht’s best draft pick, and Devin White might have a see if he keeps up his postseason performance.

Should have been voted to the Pro Bpwl – at least!

  2. Casual Observer Says:

And Joe, don’t forget that you were not pleased with the selection of Evans at the time. You pumped vehemently for Johnny Football as the pick, as I recall. Most of the time you are on the mark. Just not that time.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Evans made Johnny Football………………

Very hard to choose #1 draft pick because of different positions…..Wirfs, Evans, White, Vea

  4. Kentucky Buc Says:

Love Wirfs. Does a great job, as does the rest of the O-line. I will strongly disagree with Brady not being nimble however. He works the pocket better than anyone. If your a Tackle just don’t let your guy inside. How many times do you see defenders graze by him because of one or two steps in the right direction. Subtleties.

If Vea could stay healthy he’d be right there too. Chris Godwin and Ali Marpet are definitely in the running. Antoine Winfield is my dark horse for the young guys.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

TBBF, you left Winfield off the list. His impact is only going to improve over time. And, what about Godwin. And the list just keeps getting stronger and longer. That’s the reason the Den of Depression has now become the Licht House.

Too bad that same player publicly embarrassed him with a one armed body slam!

Dave Big Bucs Fan, Khalil Mack isn’t winning so much as a playoff game in Chicago. I’ll take Wirfs and his ring 10/10

The link only took me to the generic CBS sports homepage, but I learned as a result there’s breaking news that Cam Akers has torn his Achilles and is out for the year.

I don’t wish injury on any opponent, but since it has happened, can only anticipate a weakened Rams attack benefits the Bucs tremendously in the long run this year.

75% on this forum blasted Licht for trading up one spot with the 49ers for Wirfs.

    “Licht got fleeced!!!” Everyone shouted.

Moving forward we now know if Licht likes a guy he should take him. Even if that means making a trade to move up just one spot.

Respect is earned. Licht has earned it.

BTW, don’t leave Devin White out of the best player drafted conversation.

When it’s all said and done Evans, Wirfs, and White will likely be a three way tie.

i’ll throw winfield in the mix…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  13. Drunkinybor Says:

Yeah at this point you gotta go with Evans as his best player drafted. He’s done it over a number of years. I do think Tristan if he can stay healthy is going to be a. H.O.F. type player. He is a massive freak of power and technique. Plus he is still GROWING!! If you haven’t seen him workout go find it. It’s uncanny. All that said you got to play the games no matter what we forcast means spit
