O.J. Howard Dares To Suggest An Undefeated Season

June 1st, 2021

“We can do it, O.J.”

Only one team in the Super Bowl era went undefeated, and that is the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

Over the weekend, Pat Mahomes of the Chiefs said he wants to go undefeated this year. The Chiefs lost two games last season. We all remember the one in February when the Bucs clobbered them for NFL hardware.

Well, why not the Bucs?

Could the Bucs be the second team from Florida to accomplish this undefeated season feat? Bucs tight end O.J. Howard isn’t dismissing the chance.

Last week Howard joined the “Pat McAfee Show” seen on YouTube and heard on SiriusXM Radio. There, Howard stepped out on a limb and dared to suggest the Bucs, at least in his mind, should be striving to finish 20-0 and win a second-straight Super Bowl.

McAfee, knowing the Bucs are absolutely loaded, asked Howard if there is chatter about running the table among his Bucs teammates? Howard wouldn’t say if he hears that talk, but Howard said it is a goal he talks openly about.

“I know with me and my homeboys and guys I talk to, I talk about it all the time,” Howard said of the Bucs shooting for an undefeated season.

“Look at our team, bro. We have one of the best teams of all time. I’m playing with Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin — I could go on and on. On paper, these guys have a chance to do something really, really special which is to go undefeated. But if you just look at our offense, that’s cool. When you look at our defense, they are elite. They are elite. And defense wins championships.

“I mean, it’s on us. But we really have to buy in. It’s going to be hard to do. But if there was a team to do it, we’ve got [the team] on paper to do it.”

Now we all know Mr. Seven Rings sure wants to do this. And McAfee brought up a good point.

After the Super Bowl when Brady embraced his wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, on the field of The Licht House, she asked him “What more do you have to prove?” Well, there is one more mountain for Brady to conquer: an undefeated season.

It’s a goal he came oh-so-close to achieving once before.

Can the loaded Bucs get Brady to that treasured final rung?

  5. Bobby M. Says:

Brady will squash that nonsense quick. Looking ahead is what gets you beat. We had a pretty talented team going back to Koetter, you still must execute.

  6. Destinjohnny Says:

Just win the the first game nastradomus

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

When & if we are about 15-0….I’ll start thinking about an undefeated season…….even TBBF, one of the most optimistic Buc fans thinks it’s madness to be talking about 20-0 this early.

  8. Cobraboy Says:

Very bothersome to hear this chatter.

Go undefeated in the first game first.

    Then think about game 2.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

I see no problem with OJ thinking this way. Sure it’s one game at a time, but all teams set goals every year – win the division, win the conference, get the playoff bye, etc. Going undefeated accomplishes all of those goals. As long as you approach it one game at a time it’s an achievable objective. And, as OJ points out “if there was a team to do it, we’ve got [the team] on paper to do it.”

  10. dmatt Says:

Of all people why would u discuss this topic with OJ Howard. He’s 0-4 as it relates to playing a full season since being drafted.smh

  11. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@TBBF, I don’t believe that you have not thought about it, lol. I know it has crossed my mind.

@’87, In addition to the “one more mountain” Joe points out, you and I agree there TB has a second mountain that has NEVER been accomplished, right? But don’t jinx it… lol

  12. HeyItsAdam Says:

    Shut up , IR Howard.

Time to scream out loud, 20-0 BABY, GO FOR IT, I have been saying here again and again, and you see the players do think and talk about an UNDEFEATED SEASON. That is reality. No time to stick your head in the sand, like this is not something that is thought about and talked about by the players.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME, NOT TO LOSE A GAME TO TAKE OFF THE PRESSURE, HOGWASH,

BE BOLD, PICK UP YOUR LUNCH PALE AND GO TO WORK EVERYDAY AND BUST YOUR TAIL EVERY SINGLE PLAY!!

28-0 RUN, BACK TO BACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!! GO BUCS!!!!!!

Look Im not a O.J. fan at all but if this guy wanna talk a big game Im good with it………Just be sure to show your ass up and produce when it counts. Shut up me and all your haters.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

But maybe we shouldnt go undefeated. Give Brady a reason to wanna come back in 2022. Then we get a ring this year, undefeated in 2022. Then Brady cant retire with one finger missing a ring. He will then have a new reason to win another Super Bowl in 2023.

Tank a game if ya gotta Bucs. Keep that fire burning in Toms belly.

  17. August 1976 Buc Says:

No thanks, 20-0 Undefeated, greatest season ever.

I watched the totally defeated season “76”, and then 12 more losses in a row the next season in “77”

UNDEFEATED SEASON, time for the BUCS to set the standard.
    GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. Doctor Stroud Says:

A lot of fans are urging the Bucs to trade OJ Howard, but I agree with Ira: he hasn’t put enough on film to warrant a legitimate asking price. Plus, Zach Ertz is rumored to be either traded or released by the Eagles, so the Tight End market might be too soft all of a sudden. Unless another team offers a high round draft pick, just keep him this year and see if he can stay healthy.

  19. RustyRhinos Says:

Be focused on being the winner of the game you are in, not focused on the games that are in front of you.

O.J. Howard the same O.J. who as of last season has a bum tire or is an injured Achilles a bent rim? Either way, I hope O.J. comes back and Shows up 100%, when he does that in a few NFL games with success, then talk about undefeated seasons.
How many Undefeated seasons from the Injury enemy has O.J had so far in his career? What are his dominant game in-game out, season on season stats again?
105 Receptions for 1602 yards 15.3 average 14 TD’s all while never playing more than 14 games in a season in 4 seasons. 14 games played in 17, 10 in 18, 14 in 19, 4 in 20. Where is the Dominance? Bucs picked up O.J.’s 5th year of his rookie contract. So Show me on the Game field, not the practice field, then talk the talk.

    Go Bucs!

  20. BA4President Says:

    @Doctor Stroud, Well said

  21. German Buc Says:

I’d be fine with just sneaking in the playoffs and ending the season with a win :-).

  22. Rico 210 Says:

Let it be so… 20-0. Like ’76, I lived thru the pain. Getting up there in age. Man I would love nothing more than that. We NEED this.
    Go Bucs

  23. crazyBucs_CL Says:

O.J. hmmm, easy from the sidelines to make predictions. Very hard work, dedication, selflessness need it for 17-0. Let start with 1-0 first.

  24. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

    Run it back? Bull sh!t

    RUN THE RACK!!!

28-0 Brady, Gronk and Suh go into the HoF as Buccaneers.

LaVonte and Arians become 1st nBallot HoFer’s too.

  25. TSmitty3000 Says:

The Bucs are going to lose 3-4 games this regular season. That should still be good enough to get the 1 seed. It is great the Bucs brought every starter back, but many are older and the injury bug and Father Time can creep up at anytime. The big injury concern is if either Shaq or JPP goes down for an extended period of time. I just want to get in the dance and take it from there.

  26. Bruce Blahak Says:

positivity brothers….worked for me, laughed my way through the super bowl to friends: “they got them!” ….it’s destiny again….28-0 to wash out the 0-26 start…Bucs come full circle into greatness !!!!

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

Ghost Brady will go in as a Patriot not a buc.

  28. BradyBucs Says:

DAVIS + SMB + DEAN = NO UNDEFEEATED SEASON

  29. August 1976 Buc Says:

lol lol 28-0 Run, Back to Back World Championships…..yeah the secondary is a question mark as I have stated many times, and people did not like that lol lol. The Secondary definitely needs to to step up.

But with a 30+ points a game average, and a Defensive front 7 that can stand toe to toe with anyone, the Bucs are in position to set the Modern day Standard with a 20-0 UNDEFEATED WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON.

This Bucs team is in better shape to do it then KC and you got Mahomes talking just the other day about going for 20-0 this year.

It is like some people are angry about even mentioning something the players now and throughout time have talked about, which is an UNDEFEATED SEASON.

Teddy Bruschi talked about it the other day, about how it is something everyone wants.

We all know Brady wants it, as he has said.

If the Bucs lose a game, big flippin deal, but until then I am going to have a lot of FUN, Rooting for and talking about an UNDEFEATED SEASON!!

For me as a Fan, Football is not life and death, it is Entertainment and FUN. So I will keep having FUN with this, whether they win or lose. Undefeated or not, whatever, That is my choice. lol lol

28-0 run, and BACK to BACK WORLD CHAMPIONS.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!
