Catching Fire

June 1st, 2021

Are the Bucs a one-hit-wonder? Or can the team show the league they are the dominant squad and Go For Two?

That was a topic of discussion last week on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” Closet Bucs fan and co-host Peter Schrager wondered, can this be repeated? He lauded the Bucs for catching fire at the right time last season.

“No one was talking about the Buccaneers around Week 12, Week 13, Week 14,” Schrager said. “And then [Tom] Brady went on this run and the defense came together and then they were just one of those teams that caught fire. Caught fire. It was lightning in a bottle.

“This was a desperate, hungry team with Brady trying to prove something. [Rob Gronkowski] with some experience and a bunch of unproven players in big spots trying to make a name for themselves.

“So what motivates them now?”

Schrager has an interesting point. Are the Bucs hungry enough? Do they have the burning desire to make history?

There is only one way to make history. Become the second team this century to win consecutive Super Bowls (the first was quarterbacked by YouKnowWho), or to go undefeated, which of course means winning another Super Bowl.

Do the Bucs still have the hunger? The fire?

Definitely a one-hit wonder. Brady got lucky.

Hard to imagine Brady letting the team get complacent, especially on offense. And he’s not the only leader on this team let’s not forget. Suh and JPP on the other side of the ball. Clearly White is emerging as a leader. Not worried about complacency. Injuries worry me more.

Bucs will likely make the NFC championship game. I don’t know about a repeat, but anything is possible given the 2020 season.

I like our cornerbacks overall but it is still the position that worries me the most.

I do not think it will be desire or whether the guys are hungry enough. There are clearly enough leaders on this team IMO. We should be very successful.

However, are any of our corners elite? No.

All these high paid coaches in the NFL have been spending this off season on ways to beat the Buc’s. I bet a lot of film work has been done on how to exploit the weakest part of the Buc’s – their cornerbacks.

I do not think it will mean a poor season in any case. Go Bucs maybe a 13-4 regular season.

The fire is burning… Going to be a blast watching the Bucs in 2021 and Jan- feb 2022. They are getting the steam roller ready right now. GO BUCS!!!!!!

  6. August 1976 Buc Says:

Just Thankful Geno that the offense will average 30+ a game. Because again, you are making Valid Points and any team is only as strong as the weakest link.
BTW, you really see the Bucs losing 4 games? I do not see it.

The offense is going to dominate the time of possession, so the Defense will be rested game in and game out. I believe they will AVERAGE winning by like 30 to 10-17 a game, somewhere in there.

Anyways, Brady is about to get in the seat and fire up the Steam Roller. GO BUCS!!!!

Steven007 – You said it. Injuries worry me waaaaay more than complacency. So many players on this Bucs team waited a long time for this SB. Heck, some of them had waited their whole careers just to make the playoffs. I can’t image them getting complacent now, they all know the phrase “any given Sunday”. Injuries, however, can happen to anyone. Although in my opinion all these workouts will help prevent injuries because the guys will be in better physical condition and more ready to play. GO BUCS!!

  8. SOEbuc Says:

Brady said he gets off to these natty’s saying he can’t do it again. This is a team made of men. Not out doing State Farm commercials. A bunch of FHOF and the best coaching staff. All these guys did not take a pay cut to not be motivated. Too much great locker room presence that will get your ass motivated.

  9. SOEbuc Says:

Ugh. Joe you got these people talking about future injuries like they’re looking forward to it.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

    PassingThru … nailed it.

    What motivates them? … TB12

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What? With the “old stale biscuit” as a coach?

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Huh-uh-uh Cool. Fire, Fire, Fire, Fire!!!

  13. Steven007 Says:

TBBF, it’s amazing how quickly the trolls disappeared as soon as we had some success. They always couched themselves as fans but how can you be a fan when you disappear when the team is doing well while posting multiple times a day when the team is not? It’s the very definition of being a troll.

  14. m0j0 Says:

Bucs have a great locker room and Brady showed them that they can do great things if only they set that bar a little higher. They will be looking to perfect their game and take it to another level and have all the pieces in place to make winning a common practice and the new norm for the Bucs. Only the Bucs can beat the Bucs.

  15. Buc4evr Says:

Brady has the fire and won’t let it go out. The rest of the team feeds off of him and barring injuries this team is going back to the big dance. The players all want a repeat, why else would all the starters re-sign, so I doubt anyone is going to be complacent. This offense is going to be unstoppable!

  16. Bruce Blahak Says:

mostly a bunch of real pros…only an AB tirade or Lenny down on the lip could eat this group up

  17. Irishmist Says:

Yes, but unlike Beavis, Brady knows how to score.

  18. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

Oh by the way soebuc,,it’s Nationwide is on your side,, LOL

  19. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

I know Aaron did State farm also

  20. BradyBucs Says:

Davis, SMB, and Dean will most likely be the players that keep the Bucs from winning it all again.

As for undefeated? Highly doubtful. Davis, SMB, and Dean will be single-handedly responsible for multiple losses.

Stafford and the Rams will light up our secondary, you watch.

  21. August 1976 Buc Says:

Stafford and the Lambs lol lol lol lol will get their beating too from the Bucs. The Bucs will be 3-0 after seal clubbing LA and heading to NE for the BEANTOWN BEATDOWN they will be serving up to Billie B and the Patsies. GO WORLD CHAMPION BUCS!!!

  22. Rod Munch Says:

They were an 11-5 team, not a 9-7 team, it’s not like they weren’t any good. However it’s fair to say they didn’t look like SB contenders after that KC loss. It wasn’t a case of want-to however, it was a case of the defense being extremely average. The thing to keep in mind is that this defense wasn’t anything special in the regular season, they got hot during the playoffs and that’s why they won the SB. If the defense isn’t anything special in 2021, then we’re in for a repeat where the team is good, but not special, and they’ll have to hope they get hot again at the end of the year.

The offense I expect to be better from last year, including the playoffs. But the defense, I can’t see them playing like they did in the playoff run for 17-games, but that’s OK so long as they can get hot at the right time.

  23. August 1976 Buc Says:

30+ points a game from the Offense again and the Defense will be better for sure then most of last year before the playoffs. And why do I say that the Defense will be better? Because the Offense will dominate time of possession, so game and game out the Defense will be rested more. GO BUCS!!!

  24. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Man, all of you criticizing our secondary is silly to me. The Bucs went thru murderers row the last 3 games; NO, GB & KC. No WR or TE (future HOFer in Kelce) dominated us. And I expect many players to be even better: White, C Davis, SMB, Winfield, etc. We now have AB for a full year, and Tryon gives us a little depth hopefully to rest JPP, Gronk is in football shape, OJ hopefully can go 3/4 of the year without going on IR (lol).

We have leaders, real leaders (not GMC lead by example to the ice cream truck) that I doubt will tolerate complacency.

No, the only thing that can derail the Bucs is injuries. And we have no control over that. Go BUCS! #GOFORTWO
