“Brady Is Pushing Them Hard”

June 14th, 2021

Getting after the defense.

Joe is starting to get the sneaky suspicion that maybe Devin White doesn’t care for people to think he may not have a full grasp on the bridle of the Bucs defense.

White was asked last week how park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady has been dealing with the defense.

Last year Brady was rather vocal for everyone on the Bucs.

In answering a question last week about Brady’s passion and leadership this year, White said Brady has been subdued with the defense.

A few Bucs seem to believe otherwise.

Last week, while appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio, tight end Cam Brate said Brady had been “cussing out guys” who screwed up in minicamp.

Joe personally heard Brady scream a foul word that rhymes with “truck” after Ryan Jensen rolled a snap to Brady, essentially blowing up the play, which resulted in Brady getting bounced around a little bit by would-be defenders.

And now enter James Palmer, the NFL Network reporter who covered the Bucs in last year’s training camp reached out to some Bucs, and Palmer’s feedback from unnamed defensive players is that Brady is as over-the-top and demanding as ever.

“It’s a big thing to push those guys in practice, right?” Palmer said. “And you have all of those returning starters you mentioned. And the defensive players I have talked to already said in this early portion of minicamp, Brady is pushing them hard.

“And what [is the defense] doing? They are pushing back.”

What does that mean? Well, Palmer pointed to the first play of minicamp. It was an 11-on-11 drill and Todd Bowles came at Brady with a corner blitz.

So let Joe get the chronology straight here: Bowles and the defense supposedly “pushed back” on Brady on the very first play of minicamp?

So what, was Brady talking trash to the Bucs defense in the weight room? During warmup drills? Texting the defense all sorts of smack the night before? At the boat parade perhaps? Weird.

Maybe White is right. Maybe Brady is “quiet” compared to last year. Quiet doesn’t actually mean silent. Maybe Brady isn’t over the top like he was after Jensen’s bad snap?

Perhaps, Brady has been just vocal enough to get under the skin of some defensive types.

You can watch Palmer’s full Bucs report in his appearance on “Total Access” in the NFL Network video below.

One thing I’ve learned in the last few years is that cussing and cussing guys out is the same thing to the younger generation. If you give a guy a work instruction and cuss while doing so you are cussing them out. The generations are getting snowflakier all the time.

@Joe … “MAYBE White is right. MAYBE Brady is “quiet” compared to last year. Quiet doesn’t actually mean silent. MAYBE Brady isn’t over the top like he was after Jensen’s bad snap. PERHAPS, Brady has been just vocal enough to get under the skin of some defensive types.”

Wow, 3 MAYBE’s and 1 PERHAPS in only 5 short sentences. PERHAPS there’s just a smidgeon of speculation in there? MAYBE this is the time of year where none of us, fans AND media, knows what REALLY goes on behind closed doors? Come to think of it, MAYBE that applies to the regular season too?

And BTW Joe, I SUSPECT that Brady is just being Brady. GUT FEEL is that Tom Brady’s standards of performance are measured from a TEAM perspective. Everything I’ve ever read about Brady seems to indicate that he practices just as hard as he plays in games; that he’s just as demanding … of himself & others … in practices & in games. His 21 year record of performance speaks for itself IMO.

Hey Joe, I had to read that first sentence 10 times and I still don’t get what you are trying to say,

maybe pushing each other does not mean talking at all. Why is that so hard to understand. Maybe pushing each other means challenging each other on the field by playing standards ie Bowles blitzes Brady and Brady makes the defense pay and vice versa. Really no need for all of this speculation

  6. Joe Says:

Really no need for all of this speculation

Without speculation, there is nothing to write about between June and late-July. It’s fun. It’s sports!

    C’mon, really?

  7. webster Says:

Speculate who will be the starter opposite of Carlton Davis. Speculate who will be the starting running back. Thats all fine and dandy. There is plenty to speculate between now and training camp. There is no need to speculate what a player is or is not saying/doing. This is how false narratives are created and parroted by fans then you wonder why athletes hate speaking to the media because you are speculating and causing a narrative that is false. In the words of the great beast mode….im here so I don’t get fined

If any player believes they are being wronged on this site, they have an open forum to call Joe and straighten him out and set the record straight for the public. In fact Joe encourages that because Joe does not want to be wrong.

Would a newspaper do that? Unlikely. Would a radio show host do that? Doubtful. But Joe will.

Those guys know how to get a hold of Joe. And if they don’t, the Bucs’ media relations team, coaches and front office types sure as hell know how to get hold of Joe 24/7 (because they have).

I’m sure Mr. Seven Rings would appreciate you drop the insidious prelude monikers so he doesn’t have to get a hold of your neck beta Joe🤣

JOE is just listing FACTS about our beloved 7 Ring GOAT, the Living Legend, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

Wasn’t White talking about Brady jawing with defenders? While these other quotes are all from offensive players taking about Brady barking at them when they screw up?

Seems like a total non-issue / normal football stuff to me.
