“Studying Every Night”

Rise and grind

Yes, 2020 was another jackpot draft for Super Bowl GM Jason Licht.

Just listening to Antoine Winfield, Jr. last night had Joe wanting to run through a wall.

The Bucs’ Super Bowl rookie safety was a standout from start to finish last season, but he was never in cruise control, Winfield told SiriusXM NFL Radio last night. He credited his personal discipline, ”studying every night” to allow him to perform at a high level in a complicated defense and ”making all the calls and checks.”

Winfield is training now in Fort Lauderdale and is feeling very confident returning to game action that he said for him ”slowed down more and more each week as the season went by.”

”I’m kind of spoiled now. Man, I’m ready to run it back and do it again,” Winfield said.

Joe could hear the pride in Winfield’s voice when he explained there was no rookie wall for him, despite older players on the Bucs telling him he would hit it.

”I don’t really think I experienced it. Because I just love playing football, so I don’t think I hit a wall,” he said.

For those wondering, Winfield’s fine is paid for flashing his famous peace sign in the face of Tyreek ”Cheetah” Hill. It was definitely worth the moment, Winfield said, and the $7,000-plus was subtracted from his Super Bowl game check.

On Tom Brady and Bucco Bruce Arians, Winfield said watching them daily is inspirational. ”Their ambition is just crazy. They just love football,’ he said.

Love it!!! Can’t get here fast enough.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I believe since the Superbowl was played in Florida, there was no State tax…..so the $7K he was fined from the $130 K check was minimized because of the no-tax.
The peace sign to Hill was a classic rookie SB moment that will forever live in the history of that game.

    Love this guy!

  5. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Great job Jason Licht for selecting this guy in the 2nd round! This guy will be a defensive cornerstone for years to come!

  6. BigPoppaBuc Says:

“They just love football” describes this Buccaneer team perfectly. This major detail has been the key to Licht’s success building this team. A team of football junkies from 22-60+ makes for waves of Ws

  7. 813bucboi Says:

does poppa winfield have an SB ring?

great bragging rights outta the gate for Jr….lol..would love to be at that dinner table….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  8. Buc92’ Says:

It’s 3 untouchables on our Defense that should stay in tact throughout they’re careers . Thats Vita Vea , Devin White , & Winfield. Those three together form our defensive spine. Cornerstones at each level , the rest will be interchangeable especially due to cap.

    GoBucs!

  9. SB~LV Says:

    Stay health my friend !

17 games does not make the game better !
    F’ the owners

  10. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Bucs92 right on with that

  11. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

We are going for ✌️ in a row Baby!

  12. NCFlorIdiot Says:

Completely agree with Buc92’… The new Sapp, Brooks, and Lynch!

  13. Steven007 Says:

SB, I’m pretty sure 17 games is a bridge to 18. With a reduction to two preseason. But that won’t happen without the players union negotiating expanded rosters and possibly game exemptions based on some yet to be known mathematical formula. We’ll see soon enough I’m sure.

  14. Steven007 Says:

Also there are eight home games and nine away games. But two home preseason games. I assume that in the short term that’s how they’re “balancing” the home versus away games. I assume this will be flipped next year with rotating years until there’s an 18 game season.

  15. SB~LV Says:

007…yes 17 is a bridge to 18 and a reduction in PS games to 2
My complaint is the extra wear and tear , starters don’t play much in preseason and the intensity is low. IMO..the roster sizes and game day active players needs to be increased A LOT !

  16. Buc1987 Says:

It’s been months and still no sign of Realist.

  17. TampaTown Says:

^^^ The trolls don’t die they just change their screen names

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Buc1987- I pictured Realist at his home during the SB just rocking back and forth, murmuring to himself over and over, “Pressbox Smitty knows defense! Pressbox Smitty knows defense! Pressbox Smitty knows defense!”

It’s probably for the best anyway. I promise that if we start losing games “they” will come out of the woodworks again!

It’s a shame because, man, what a great time to be a Bucs fan!

How can you not like this kid?!

  19. Eddie Marz Says:

I don’t think Winfield was thinking about state tax when he flashed Hill the sign. Payback is sweet, especially in The Super Bowl! GO BUCS!

  20. Mike C Says:

SB LV , if they don’t want to play 17 or 18 games they can simply opt out if they want to stay healthy so bad.

  21. lambeau Says:

Many overlook that Winfield was merely reminding Hill of the repeated taunting Hill had engaged in during the regular season game–well-deserved payback. Hill is the punk, not Winfield.

  22. Ash Says:

I thought it was a baller move when winfield flashed the duces at hill didn’t agree with him getting fined when hill does it all the time himself

  23. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Antoine Winfield is on his way to be another John Lynch.

  24. D-Rok Says:

In the first TB-KC matchup, Hill did a black-flip in endzone, then flashed the peace sign enroute on another trip to the endzone. Both of those “taunts” were during the play. My understanding is that Winfield was awarded a taunting flag because the “deuces” was flashed after the whistle was blown and the play was over. However, I thought it was the most deserved and perfect flag in that situation, and am thankful the taunting penalty was not harmful to the team and the win. This kid has spunk – I love it! Barring injury, this young man is gonna ball this year, and years to come. GO BUCS!!!

  25. Rob Says:

This young man is one of my favorite Buccaneers of all time already. He is smart he is humble and his parents are obviously amazing. This young man hopefully will be a buccaneer a long long time

  26. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

He is a chip off the ol block…. Glad he is on our team

  27. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

So glad the Bucs don’t have to travel across the pond to play… Ridiculous NFL greed… the teams tanking for draft picks should be penalized by having to preform for the dentally challenged Brits… 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3… bet ya would see alot less tanking🤔

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

The 2002 Super Bowl Bucs were great but the 2021 Super Bowl Bucs were better. Arguably the greatest Bucs’ team since inception. They are stacked from top to bottom and if they repeat, just may be in the conversation of best built teams ever as a whole. Jason Licht and BA deserve all the praise they are getting.

  29. SOEbuc Says:

He’s gonna kill it year two and continue to become better every year.

  30. Buczilla Says:

The sky is the limit for this kid and how cool must it be to have a Dad that was a great player in the league as well. I’m happy for both of them and us.
