Tom Brady Talks On A Podcast

May 13th, 2021

The Super Bowl road.

Joe learns something every day. For example, who knew there was a podcast for watch aficionados?

And who knew Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has been a watch collector since his days at Michigan?

The park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback sat down for a chat on something called “Hodinkee Radio” to talk, yes, watches.

Mixed in with the 40-minute watch talk was some Bucs talk. And fascinating Bucs chatter at that.

Joe remembers hearing Bucs quarterback coach Clyde Christensen after the Super Bowl saying the offense was eight games from peaking.

Brady certainly reinforced Christensen’s belief. To hear Brady in this podcast, the Bucs’ offense was in disarray early on, even at midseason!

“Midway through the year, I was still trying to figure out how to call the plays,” Brady said of learning Arians’ playbook. “I just read [the plays] off my wristband and tried to visualize what was going to happen.

“It’s like learning a completely new language. You’ve spoken English for 20 years and someone goes, ‘Hey man, let’s speak some Spanish.’ And you are like, ‘Huh? That makes no sense to my brain.'”

Brady admitted there were “growing pains” for both him and his teammates, and “slowly but surely” the team finally got on the same page. This was evident to all in the eight-game winning streak that concluded with the Super Bowl win.

“The end of the season was what was the most fun,” Brady said. “We kind of came together. Naturally, we couldn’t come together in the same way. You couldn’t start that way in training camp because we were all social distanced. We couldn’t meet together. We had to all sit outside. You couldn’t have friends over. You couldn’t do anything after the game.

“So it took a long time for people to get to know one another. Much longer than normal. The last six weeks of the year, wow, we really started hitting our stride. We gained a lot of confidence in one another. It was a really unique experience, one that I hope I never, ever have to go through again, but I think we made the best of it.”

To hear Brady talk, though few Bucs came down with The Sickness, the pandemic and the hoops the Bucs had to go through with the various protocols was significantly a much bigger hurdle to overcome than anyone from the outside could realize.

If we haven’t peaked yet, then this season should be like adding Nitrous to a motor.

  3. TampaTown Says:

Hey if you’re going to live in Florida you gotta learn a little Spanish!

  4. Pewter Power Says:

Seems the rams are the analysts early super bowl favorite this year. Defense won’t be the same as it was last year with Raheem running it, having OJ back and then breaking in a new quarterback I really want to see us smash them, losing prime time games last year to rams and Chicago stung just as much as the beat down at home against the Saints. Hope we really are on a revenge tour

  5. Youngbucs Says:

No matter what BA or Brady and Mike Evans say, you still have fools here saying it’s a different offense smh. Yea seriously the whole team learned a new offense during the season smh. Bunch of ungrateful loser mentality fools. And for what a never was?

  6. SlyPirate Says:

    Pewter Power …

The Rams are the 2nd best team in the NFC. They had the #1 defense and they did upgrade their QB.

The teams are close but you just can’t underestimate Brady. He just knows how to win.

  7. DrunkInYbor Says:

I predict a 2 losses in the first 5 weeks. It will humble the team and then they finish off 11 and 1. Giving our Beloved Bucs a 14-3 season and a first round bye.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Licht’s unprecedented achievement of bringing back all 22+1 Super Bowl starters AND keeping all the coaches represents a level of “continuity” that no modern age NFL defending Champion has experienced.

We are living in blessed times Bucs fans. Soak it up. This 2021 team could be – has the potential to be – the best TEAM that has ever played an NFL season together. On paper – the Bucs are that good. Both sides of the ball!

And now that everyone knows what’s up – their schemes, their teammates capabilities and tendencies – this could truly be a special, SPECIAL season for this Pirate themed group of 53 modern day Gladiators.

And they all understand and are dedicated to the enormous task at hand.
A truly once in a lifetime opportunity. To play one more year with the GOAT – on a team that looks more like a Pro Bowl team than a single city’s franchise.

Exciting times! The anticipation of a coming season has never been greater…

Not so sure they upgraded their qb. They sure think they did with the ransom they paid. We’ll see yow Stafford does in LA. Ive seen enough football to know seeing is believing. Just as the Bucs go. We’ll see cause anything can happen

  13. Jerry Says:

We’re the defending champs. We aren’t going to sneak up on anyone this year. Everyone is watching us. Everyone uses us as the measuring stick.

Look at the betting odds right now. Literally the Bucs are favored to win against every opponent on the schedule. Every single game. I’ve never see that before!

  14. HeyItsAdam Says:

I’m a bit of watch geek myself. Did anyone catch what brand of watch Brady wears?

  15. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

I know he sponsors TAG HEUER CARRERA

  16. Buczilla Says:

Down the road I bet there is going to be an epic nfl films episode about how all of our players, coaches, etc., overcame the trials and tribulations of the “sickness” with a new qb to win the superbowl.

  17. Hodad Says:

Rams? Ha ha, I’ll take Brady over Stafford any day. Stafford rarely makes it through a season. Rams traded for damaged goods from a loser team.

  18. SUSAN LEBLANC Says:

will be wayching from pats land. My sister and I always knew it was Brady’s will and connection with his fellow players that pats great. GO BUC GO!!! only scheduleI’m downloading.

    @ youngbuc

U took the words right out of my mouth. I was a couple of days ago debating a few yahoos on this site about the same subject. I actually brought receipts to the debate but the yahoos were still talking about changing systems mid season. I even said the efficiency late in the season had everything to do with brady getting comfortable as he just said in this interview. How clueless can you be?

  21. Oneilbuc Says:

Lol 😆🤣 this was not the same offense I know your hate for Jamies has blinded you . But all you have to do is go look at the games that the bucs lost and even the Gaints game. Brady even said he told BA after the bye week let’s try another way . It was a good coaching move. That’s why it took Evans so long to get a 1,000 yards. That’s why Rojo had 989 yards rushing and he missed 4 games . Some of yall don’t even give Rojo his credit because you want it to be all Brady because of your hate for Jamies. Lol 😆🤣 ..
