Bucs Add A Safety And A Cornerback

May 5th, 2021

Safety Raven Greene

More experience and competition has landed at One Buc Palace.

Joe usually has little interest in players signed in May, but the two our beloved Buccaneers added today have significant experience and certainly will compete for coveted roster spots.

First up is safety Raven Greene. He has three seasons of experience with Green Bay, including seven passes defensed, four quarterback hits, 2 1/2 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception over 20 games played (one start), per the Buccaneers media relations crew. Like Bucs reserves Josh Wells and Aaron Stinnie, Greene is out of James Madison University.

Greene has battled multiple injuries during his career, including a December shoulder issue that ended his what seemed like his best season.

Linebacker Joseph Jones arrives after four seasons with the Broncos primarily playing on special teams. Per the Bucs, Jones had a Broncos-high 26 total special teams tackles during that span (2017 to 2020).

Special teams, special teams, special teams. It’s been a theme of the offseason. Joe still can’t believe the Bucs signed college football’s top kicker.

Remember – our beloved GM has a weakness for kickers. Not so surprising.

Joe has the intern editing today I see.

  6. Fred mcneil Says:

He is a lb. According to wiki he was drafted by cowboys, cut by a couple more teams and caught on with Bronkos.
His pro day was impressive, but he appears to be st only.

  7. Fred mcneil Says:

    Simple error over nobody player.

  8. SB~LV Says:

The thing IS….when a proven veteran SF or CB is cut the Bucs will POUNCE !
These two are just camp bodies

  9. Bird Says:

    Well done

Those last few spots for special teams should be pretty intense

    YES

  11. R.O. Says:

Not sure why we are complaining we signed a Kicker as an xtra leg or if Succop gets hurt. Don’t understand the whining. We will also need an extra Punter. People on here going to cry also?

  12. Bucs since 76 Says:

We had a extra kicker last year due to COVID and injuries just crossing the T(s).

  13. BA4President Says:

    Good thinking @firethecannons

who is the cornerback? joe profiled a safety and linebacker

  15. Stanglassman Says:

The momentum changed dramatically during the super bowl because the Chiefs punter shanked those two punts. You can’t count on that happening. I’m glad they’re being proactive in improving special teams this offseason.

Special teams might be special this year.

  17. IrishMist Says:

So the Packers nabbed one of our safety’s, and we got one of theirs.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

    STers.

  19. SB~LV Says:

Stang … I forgot about those two punts !
I wonder if he’ll be back in that locker-room.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Can never have too many kickers, in particular when they have such a tradition of flaking out. Not that I expect it, Succop was one of the best kickers in football and only lost his job when he got hurt. Kickers can easily play into their 40s, and he’s still just 34, so he could be here a while. But you never know, so you should always have competition in case of a meltdown or injury.

Bucs are serious about improving special teams this year. Can’t wait to see these young gunners.

I would not call it a weakness. Kickers are very hard to predict. Maybe the hardest. Thankfully, they are also usually the cheapest.

But there is not denying we need to get a young, quality kicker in here. We have Succop for now, but if they find the right young guy in the meantime, we can save money next year.

Doesn’t hurt to try the guy out and see some quality time with him.
