“New salary cap is going up how much?”
You see that bright ray of light coming from Carlton Davis and Chris Godwin’s houses?
That’s the smiles on their faces after they heard the news Wednesday about the NFL salary cap.
After a virtual owners meeting yesterday, the NFL announced that the 2022 salary cap per team is expected to jump up some $26 million. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network has the details.
NFLPA leadership sent this email to players today, explaining the $208.2 million salary cap ceiling for 2022.

The Bucs will have several big-ticket free agents after this season. Among those include Ryan Jensen, Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh, foot-rubbing, car-littering Rob Gronkowski, Playoff Lenny, O.J. Howard, Davis and Godwin.
Davis is likely to get the biggest raise, as he is only making $2.4 million and he is easily a top-10 corner and might be a top-five corner. If Davis gets on the market, he will make serious coin.
With several of the free agents being in their 30s and likely on the edge of retirement, the Bucs should be good for 2022 with an extra $26 million of Team Glazer loot to play with.

I wish it were that simple. Still have to think about contracts down the road and vea as well so can’t just freely throw a boat load of money at the two of them. Davis will be the one playing hard ball to get every Penny possible. Why are there so many corners at camp this year. He we can sign him but no overpay. Chris will already break the bank

Bucs have 182 million already committed to next year so at best they will have 26.5 million-ish in cap space, and that doesn’t include any voidable year accelerations. Gonna be a tough one.

Certainly at least two are gone. Jensen’s and JPP’s replacements are already on the roster.

Joe could see JPP sticking around a year or two. But yeah, they didn’t draft Tryon to sit on the bench and maybe play 15 snaps a game. And after they signed Shaq, well, you can do the math.
Not sure Robert Hainsey is ready to take over next year. Let’s see what he can do as a rookie first. Down the road, sure, Joe can see Hainsey being groomed as a starting center. Joe’s guessing Mr. Seven Rings might have a say in who snaps him the football.

Agreed. Those who pine for Rodgers apparently don’t know how he struggles in warm-weather sites. He also hates the turf at the Licht House (drama excuse for sucking when he sweats).

Yes! Pay Both Godwin, and Davis. Keep good players in house, not make a need for you turn over ALL those soft rocks behind the outhouse. Looking for that Diamond. Because you now need to find someone to replace either of these two very good players. Groom and grow players with experience in your system through the draft. Keep the good ones around as long as you can, when you have the drafted groomed experienced players best efforts rise up, yes changes will happen.

Not sure at all that Carlton Davis is a top 5 corner…..Wel to be honest I am sure he is not….Don´t get me wrong, he is goood, but not top 5….By any means!!!

Nah. Pretty safe bet one or two high-priced vets leave via attrition. That will free up some cash too. There shouldn’t be any problem keeping the core of this team for another year.

This certainly is Davis and Godwin year to shine. Davis being top five is a bit much, but if he can pull off another great year in a system made for him, he’s the prime-vet CB we’ve needed.

That 26 million is on top of a bunch of one year deals. Of course its very unlikely that we will bring our starting 22 back in 2022. Players get hurt, they retire, they regress, they move on. If Brady is still around in 2022, and this team is still competitive, I think the most probable outcome is that they reload. As Joe says, you keep the young core players, and you find vets that want to compete for a title. I dont like the Rodgers fit here. He’s good for racking up stats and accolades during the season, but blows it in the conference championship and blames his organization for it. Brady not only makes his teammates better, but he makes an organization and even city forget decades of futility. Definitely on borrowed time, but there may be hope for the future.
