Ndamukong Suh Talks About How To Win As A Team

April 10th, 2021

Strong teammate.

When the years start to add up on a good player, to get an edge he often must use his wits and wisdom gained through experience.

And the way Bucs defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh talked, the football smarts he has acquired helped the Bucs win the Super Bowl.

Before he re-signed with Tampa Bay, Suh appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast. There, Suh explained how setting up his teammates to play better not just helped him, but helped the Bucs shut down the slimy Saints, the Packers and the Chiefs, enabling the Bucs to win the Super Bowl.

“I have been able to study the league,” Suh said. “I have been around a while. I know what I am looking for. I can heighten what I want to do in a game and how I can help guys to affect the game.

“That’s one of the things I have changed about my game. I can dominate and beat people one-on-one. But most of the time I am not going to get those opportunities, even at this particular age. The better the guys are around me the better I am going to be. When they are creating havoc, that allows me to get freed up. … That’s really what it comes down to.”

Suh also explained how he set up a defensive play for Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett to chase Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes and throw away a pass.

Suh said he told Shaq he noticed there was an opportunity for Shaq to get after Mahomes. But it came with risk. Suh told Shaq that he would “cover you” just in case Mahomes reversed course or the Chiefs can the ball.

You can predict the outcome of the play: Shaq chased Mahomes to the sideline and Mahomes had to unload the ball or get sacked. And that play happened because Suh noticed a crack in the Chiefs’ blocking armor.

Joe remembers a few weeks ago that former Bucs guard Ian Beckles said wherever Suh plays, that team’s defense gets better. This is a pretty good example of why.

Man, it’s so good that Suh decided to stick around for another year.

This guy is 3x the player that Gerald ever was.
What a huge mistake to try and “build” around a vacuous personality like McCoy for years on end

Good time to draft a DT and let him learn at the feet of the master.

Dude has a monster brain too
    He is the whole package

I would never consider trading Suh. He is the best. His presence promotes fear in opposing quarterbacks. They know if he get a chance he is gonna give them a solid remember me hit!!!!

That hit Suh gave Mahomes in the Superbowl as hard as it looked was a love tap. Suh could have killed him and just really mugged him for real. Mahomes was a sitting duck. So please people and fans know Suh got a little heart left in the big man.

  8. Robert Jojola Says:

He is the prefact example of YOU ONLY LIKE THEM IF THERE ARE ON YOUR TEAM I never liked him before and now Iam in love

  9. 6throundpick Says:

…always loved this guy, as a football player, right out of college. He’s above the curve; still doing it at a high level…already had 3-5 careers, compared to the average player, who typically goes 2/3 to 5 years. Players like this find new ways to beat you, as they get older. Super talent and a class act. Cheers on that!

I sincerely hope that when he retires Ndamukong Suh makes Tampa his permanent home. He has turned into one of the great all time Free Agent signings. He led this team. He mentored young players. He has done everything asked of him. We need men like him in this community.

I remember first seeing him in a bowl game at a Christmas party for my wife’s work . I snuck into the bar and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Suh took over the game and even blocked a field goal. I knew then this guy was a beast and wanted him as are 1st round pick in the draft. I’m glad we got him now!

I’ve always hated the Suh vs McCoy debate, as I think most of the McCoy haters are deranged and that Licht did him dirty not releasing him before free agency, but regardless of all that, I’ve never heard 93 say anything about the game of football with this kind of nuance and gamesmanship. Who knows, maybe if McCoy had that in him, the defense has a different mindset. Maybe we don’t go a decade plus without getting a double digit sack year. We really should be careful who we call the face of the franchise

Such an all around upgrade from McCoy. He commands respect from his teammates and opponents.

Actually, if you check out the Pewter Report and most analysts, it’s a very bad year for Rookie DT’s.

If you listen to Warren Sapp, who’s usually a honest critic of all things defensively, he says the top prospect, Christian Barmore DT Alabama is a 3rd rounder at best. He does not know or willingly take direction and his footwork is atrocious. Sapp worked him out in person.

On the other hand, there is a bumper crop of safeties this year including my favorite Andre Cisco (Syracuse). Andre is bigger, faster and covers better than Antone Winfield. He might fall to the Bucs because of an ACL injury in October of 2020. The Bucs can afford to allow a young player time to fully heal and acclimate himself to the NFL. He can play both safety spots like Winfield and will provide that strength up the middle that we desire.

    LOL
OK so let Howard get this straight: you’re saying that you agree with every concise point that Howard made above but you think Howard is deranged?
Howard thinks you are a snowflake who should consider testosterone replacement therapy

Howard, I didn’t read your comment, so I wasn’t replying to you. But I will say I think you’re proving my point
