Tom Brady’s Super Bowl Black Hole

February 2nd, 2021

Weird stat.

For the best players and the best coaches, no matter the sport, give them time to prepare and watch out.

So yesterday, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady mentioned his family has moved out of his Derek Jeter-rental (temporarily) to give him time and solace to get ready for Super Bowl LV.

How much time? Brady will have 12 full days at home, alone, before he gets to the team hotel this weekend in preparation for Sunday’s Super Bowl.

And given Brady’s Super Bowl history, he will need it.

Per Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports, Brady has one major black mark on an otherwise nearly perfect career.

He has never led his team on a touchdown drive in the first quarter of any Super Bowl.

You may have heard; Brady this Sunday will appear in his 10th Super Bowl.

Brady has not led one touchdown drive in nine Super Bowl opening quarters. That seems impossible to believe, but it’s true. Here are the first-quarter scores of each of Brady’s nine Super Bowls:

XXXVI vs. Rams, Rams led 3-0
XXXVIII vs. Panthers, tied 0-0
XXXIX vs. Eagles, tied 0-0
XLII vs. Giants, Giants led 3-0
XLVI vs. Giants, Giants led 9-0
XLIX vs. Seahawks, tied 0-0
LI vs. Falcons, tied 0-0
LII vs. Eagles, Eagles led 9-3
LIII vs. Rams, tied 0-0

That’s nine Super Bowls, and only one field goal for Brady’s teams. It’s not like Brady has been bad in Super Bowls. He has four Super Bowl MVPs, which is the all-time record. He just doesn’t like the first quarter.

If history repeats, can the Bucs handle the body blows sure to come from the Chiefs in the opening quarter?

The Bucs almost did the last time these two teams met in November, when Cheetah Hill went wild and the Chiefs led 17-0 after the first quarter in 27-24 Bucs loss.

If Brady and the Bucs score a touchdown in the first quarter, might that be a reason to ice up the champagne?

I think this is because Belichick tried to win every super bowl with defensive genius. The Tom Brady doesn’t lose much, so they break out of the game plan and he takes over the game.

12 days? He’s really taking the whole “don’t nut the night before a game” philosophy to a whole new level!

  3. mg Says:

Love to see him sneak one in on the first drive.

Apples and oranges. Ariens offensive style is almost 180 from belicheats. That’s WHY Tom’s here now, and not there.
There’s going to be a lot of scoring in this game. Rocket Mortgage is going to take a beating!

Lol clod.. that would be tough with Giselle walking around the house in her Victoria secret

I’m feeling it…..win or lose the toss….we get the ball…..and we score!!!

  7. Kentucky Buc Says:

That had a lot to do with coaching Philosophy. Run and grind early. Play field position. BB staples.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

I think we come out fast on both sides of the ball….we just gotta maintain it throughout the game

    GO BUCS

Haven’t the entire Brady family already moved out of Jeter’s rental and now live in Clearwater? Thought I read that.

  10. '79 Defense Says:

Damn… 3 points total in the first quarter in nine games? That’s really hard to believe.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

    3 Q1 points in 10 SB’s?

What an abysmal record for the GOAT…

  12. BillyBucFan Says:

This doesn’t bode well for a team that waits until halftime to make adjustments.
    Better have those IPADS out.

  13. PSL Bob Says:

That doesn’t really come as a surprise. Seems like throughout the season it took him a while to get into rhythm. Things seemed to improve in the playoffs and hopefully that carries into this week’s game.

  14. Ericb Says:

Were gonna have to play 4 qrts against the chiefs…stop hill and kelce…pats didna good job this season holding chiefs …defense is going to have to come put hard and hit them hard..we got this TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY

  15. ClodHopper Says:

He did say hes excited to not eat hotel food for a week like most super bowls.
That might have been his problem. As good as those hotels might be, are they Brady good? You can’t find jet fuel at a 711.

He hasn’t had weapons like this before.
