Malcolm Glazer’s Important Lesson

February 8th, 2021

Late Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer

Team Glazer seems to enjoy addressing Bucs fans and media about as much as Joe likes to scrub toilets.

Why this is, Joe has no idea.

It’s bizarre in the modern sports world, especially for an ownership group that attends every game and has multiple members.

Joe has no doubt that Team Glazer loves its team, bleeds Bucs red and pewter and has worked very hard to improve the fan experience, but they just don’t want to be seen or heard.

So it’s always notable when Team Glazer speaks like they did tonight, via the lips of co-chairman Joel Glazer.

After the Bucs’ dominating Super Bowl win, Glazer held the Lombardi Trophy aloft and shared a lesson from family patriarch Malcolm Glazer, who outfoxed George Steinbrenner to purchase the Bucs for less than $200 million about 26 years ago.

“You know, my father had an expression,” Glazer said. “‘If you want to know the road ahead, ask the person who’s been there.’ We found that person, 10 Super Bowl appearances, 7 victories, Tom Brady.”

It was a nice tribute to the late Mr. Glazer, who died in 2014 and was the driving force behind the Bucs’ former glory-years teams.

If that quote helped prompt Team Glazer to chase Tom Brady in the offseason, then let’s all thank Malcolm for his Sage wisdom as we stay up all night celebrating this amazing and historic “W.”

    HELL. YEAH. Love the Glazers!

    BUCS WIN!

    BUCS WIN!!

    BUCS WIN!!!

    FIRE THE CANNONS!!!

  3. Buxszntkt Says:

Gotta get to sleep so I can be up at 7am to watch Kay Adams talk about the Bucs !!!
Looking forward to you Kay, I’ll be dreaming about you !

  4. Buc believer Says:

I agree. That is the map to success. Just look those who have been successful in front of you and do exactly what they did. It’s not rocket science.

  5. FrankPillow Says:

This was the most complete and dominant game in franchise history. The GOAT and his trusty deputy Gronk changed the course of this franchise by teaching everyone else how to put in the work to win. At 7-5, I believed we were being held back by coaching. I don’t know what happed at the break, but we came back a completely different team. Simply amazing. Beyond words. I’m in bloody tears. I can’t believe this is real. We physically dominated our way through the playoffs and punched the Chiefs squarely in the mouth. So much credit to Jason Licht for doing what needed to be done, BA for being himself, Byron for being ego-less and Todd for overseeing the most dominant defensive performance in modern super bowl history
    !!!!

  6. MadMax Says:

Now we go after QB Mac Jones, RG Jackson Carman, DT Darius Stills….

Or trade the farm for Trevor, which im just not feeling it.

    More work to do fellas….

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Remember all the “Glazers are cheap” morons that populated this board for year after year, who demanded the team be sold — then when you’d ask them the simple question about how they should spend their money on, who they let walk over money, they’d have no answers. LOL!

Anywho the joy on Malcolm Glazer’s face after that SB win is still a great image – you could tell he was totally invested in the team. I’m not so sure about his sons, but who cares, we won the SB and the billionaire sons not being expressive enough isn’t really at the top of my cares list.

  8. BDub Says:

I’ve always longed for the return of the Sapp, Lynch, Barber, Brooks era of the franchise, but this team is truly the most complete team we’ve ever fielded. Seeing these young men in the def side of the ball step up and show out though the playoffs should inspire all. We know who Brady is. Everyone does. Tonight, the world met the next generation of Bucs who will carry the torch for years to come. GD I’m so proud of this team, this family. We’ve only just begun.

  9. firethecannons Says:

Go Bucs! Team Glazer is very accommodating to Licht and Arians, they tolerated Jameis without interfering and stayed with Licht even during the bleak times.

Jameis had basically run this franchise off the rails and into the ditch so far that Licht only had one last trick in his back pocket and that was his connection to Bruce Arians. The rest is history, it was Arians who had the no riskit/biscuit attitude and made a play for Tom Brady.

  10. sauron's eye Says:

Well the Glazer boys don’t know much about football, and have screwed this team for many years. They are almost Jerry Jones bad. They got lucky with the current administration. I am going to enjoy this offseason and hope we can make some good moves for next year

  11. tbbucs3 Says:

Credit to the Glazers, there have been times when I for sure though Jason Licht would be getting the boot but they were patient and it paid off.

In 2014 the Bucs were dead last and picking 1st in the draft.

7 years later the Bucs are your 2020 Superbowl Champions and picking 32st!

Happy for AC/DC loving Licht. He literally built this team from scratch. From Josh McCown to Tom Brady.

  12. David Says:

    JOE-
Can I take a moment to pat myself on the back for saying over the past 2 weeks they will win because they will dominant in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

I said 38 – 27. I said the difference is the Buccaneers will hold the Chiefs a few times to field goals… I definitely did not see them holding them to nothing but field goals. Unreal

  13. David Says:

Re- sign Shaq & Godwin and draft another D lineman… And next year they will be going for the repeat… The heck with that, I want to repeat and go undefeated. It is a possibility when you look back at the last 8 games

  14. FortMyersDave Says:

Have to hand it to the Glazers. They had to green light the Brady signing. They put their faith in Licht and BA to make another title become a reality. While the Glazers are in it for the coin, they like to win too, not all owners are like that. Many just want to make a ton of coin, we had one of those guys in from the ’70s until Malcolm got the team, he wore a polyester tangerine blazer that only Don Cherry or the late Craig Sager might try on. The CIT may not be fair but it got us fans 2 titles.

BTW Joes: thanks for all these amazing articles tonight. Most of us fans are half in da bag celebrating and these stories are the icing on the cake!

  15. Rene Says:

Can’t wait for next season. No we are not getting Jones unless he falls. We need depth at many positions specially defense but also OL and WR if we lose 14

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Why would you draft a QB? Brady just literally showed you why you just get a vet who has done it before. Who are the winning SB QB’s for Tampa? Brad Johnson and Tom Brady – just need to find someone with BRAD in their name and we’re set.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

This was Brady’s largest margin of victory in his 10 SB’s… yet the Bucs smallest margin of victory in the SB…

  18. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

This was our day. Thank you….Thank you. Go Bucs! The sails have set….

  19. webster Says:

    Fire the cannons!!!

  20. webster Says:

    FIRE THE CANNONS!!!!!!

  21. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Rewatching the game. Still I’m shock…. Go Bucs!

  22. Buc4evr Says:

The best play? Watching AWJ flash Hill the peace sign. At that point it was all over. Bucs Win Bucs Win. SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS !

  23. lambchop Says:

This Super Bowl win was meant to be – John Lynch HOF induction, Super Bowl Derrick Brooks (55), and Britt Reid distraction (prayers to the kids, family, and Britt).

We came to eat with a single-minded focus of revenge and holding down our house. We earned a home SB.l, no way we were letting another team celebrate a SB victory on our field. The curse of Chucky has been lifted.

  24. heilan Laddie Says:

Greetings from a cold and wintry Highlands of Scotland. 35 years ago I had watched my first game in Tampa and became a fan there and then. Been over almost every year since then to watch my beloved Bucs. Have Bucs beads and Mike Alstott Ring of Honour and various other Bucs and A-Train memorabilia up on the wall of my office at home. Love them Bucs even during the bad years.

Last night was simply amazing. Thought Joel Glazer speech was simple but amazing. Said little but said it all.

A night of memories which will never fade. Just wish I could have been there. Damn Covid.

Both my teams that I support in the Buccaneers in Tampa and Glasgow Rangers in Scotland have sucked for so long – THIS IS THE YEAR

I have 2 sporting hopes for the next 12 months. In calendar order

    1. Glasgow Rangers win the Scottish Football League this year – currently 21 points ahead after 10 years of misery.

    2. The Bucs hold the majority of the team and coaching staff together and lets do it again this time next year. 2 Super Bowls in 2 years. IT IS POSSIBLE.

    Go Gers & Go Bucs

  25. heilan Laddie Says:

Apologies, just to clarify. Ring of Honour Commemorative coin and ticket from the game on Oct 4th 2015 when A Train was inducted into the Ring of Honour. It was the Panthers that night I seem to remember. Came over just for that game – Mike is still my favourite Bucs player of all time. Although maybe someone with the initials TB now. Look forward to coming over next season to see TB playing in the flesh. Go Bucs.

  26. Joe Says:

    heilan Laddie:

Cool to see Scotland checking in. Thanks!

  27. heilan Laddie Says:

Thanks Joe. In case you have not seen this though I doubt it

    Thanks for the best Blog

    Robert

  28. adam from ny Says:

props to the glazer gang for this uncanny bucs revival…

a chance to repeat is definitely a possibility if things fall into place next season…

The Glazers have a pretty good success record when they’ll go all in.

  30. DAVID_54 Says:

No ownership I’d rather have than the Glazers.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

I want to know what was said between Brady and the honey badger….lol…

    GO BUCS
