Friendship Turned Frosty?

February 1st, 2021

Iced out by Billy.

One of the prizes of the Bill Belicheat era in New England was Rob Gronkowski.

Any time a second-round pick becomes arguably the best tight end of his generation and a sure-fire Hall of Famer, that’s a success.

Throughout his days with the Belicheats and immediately afterwards, the current Bucs foot-rubbing, car-littering tight end claimed he and Belicheat had a strong bond.

It was strong enough that last year at the Super Bowl in Miami, Gronk had a beach party and Belicheat and his significant other showed up in beach attire and joined the fun.

But since Belicheat traded the rights to Gronk to the Bucs this spring, Belicheat had shut down whatever friendship he had with Gronk. That is basically what Gronk said today at the Super Bowl Opening Night daytime edition in his media session.

“I’ve always had a great relationship with Bill,” Gronk said. Since his trade to the Bucs? Gronk said he hasn’t heard a word from the New England strongman.

Now Joe isn’t sure if Gronk hacked off Belicheat, or if Belicheat just doesn’t communicate with players on other teams during the season.

And even though it is Feb. 1, the Bucs have yet to play their final game of the 2020 season!

Don’t think this is so unusual.

  3. Beeej Says:

Did not Bellicheat try to trade Gronk to the Lions before he retired?

  4. Beeej Says:

I also read he tried to ship Brady to San Francisco instead of Garoppolo… Kraft wasn’t happy

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bill doesn’t have time for casual conversations…..he’s knee-deep looking to replace Brady at QB….and then when he finds one, he’ll be looking for a TE to replace Gronk.

I’d say he didn’t want to play for BB so.he retired and poof, Brady goes to Tampa and Gronk wants back in, only if Pat’s release him. I am willing to bet that’s probably going up Mr. Six rings will be my last a@@ sideways. Oh and BB gets to hear it EVERY day on Boston news and sports stations. This is going to be the longest 6 days of BB’s life.

  7. Beeej Says:

Pats have not drafted a pro bowl quality player in most of a decade

  8. David Says:

Eh… my guess is it is simply an opposing player on a different team so he’s not going to say anything during the season

  9. gp Says:

I can appreciate someone with the Gronks personality not understanding and even being confused to think that someone doesn’t like him. He11, EVERYONE likes Gronk!

Hey Gronk… stay frosty now!!! LFG!!!

Answering every stupid question reporters can muster has to be the bane of making it to the Super Bowl.

Do any of your former bosses call you?

No … and you wouldn’t care if they did/didn’t.
