“We Didn’t Come Here Not To Take Chances To Win The Game”

January 24th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

When you boil football down to the bare knuckles bare minimum, it’s about who has the most points when the game is over.

Turnovers, passing, running, field position, time of possession. It all clouds the very basic key element of football.

Who has the most points.

And it was that simple fact that motivated Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians to go for it on fourth-and-short with seconds left in the first half to keep the drive alive — the drive that ended a play later when park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady hit Scotty Miller on a 39-yard bomb to put the Bucs up 21-10 at halftime.

“We didn’t come here not to take chances to win the game,” Arians said after winning the NFC Championship. “With the time out and the interception, I wanted to come out of there with points.

“We could punt it [on fourth down] but then I loved the play we had. Got a great matchup and got the touchdown. I thought it was huge.”

Huge is an understatement. The Bucs won by five points. Take that touchdown off the board, and instead of drowning our sorrows tonight, Bucs fans are chugging Big Storm beer in celebration!

Joe sure will be later!

    Don’t Stop That Mindset!

  2. DaBux Says:

    Big
    Freaking
    Nuts.

That’s what it takes to win.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

    No risk it, no biscuit.

  4. Formaly Tampa 2 Says:

Guess I’ll not second guess you anymore Joe. sorry

  5. Jerry Says:

Loved the aggressiveness at the end of the half. But a little too much in the 3rd. Not saying to go conservative by any means, but Brady was trying too hard to force it down the field, and it kept GB in the game.

  6. Pewter Power Says:

Biggest play of the game. If it was Winston we would have punted

  7. Bucs4821 Says:

Playing to win instead of playing not to lose. That was the difference between Gruden and Dungy and previous Bucs coaches. Arians is the former, not the latter.

  8. James Leventis Says:

man, calling t o before half and then going for 7… damn! thats was ballsy and the pack go for 3 inside the 10

  9. Leighroy Says:

Chain of events clarified, the punt team still rolled out initially on 4th down before a timeout. Was that planned? Was there a 2nd guess? Did someone lobby someone else?

No complaints obviously, just an intriguing moment of the game that had myself and fellow fans yelling before the TO that it was a no brainer to go for it on 4th down given the time left on the clock and ball spot.

  10. Tbbucs3 Says:

That screen pass to Gronk was huge too what a play design by BA/BL!

  11. James Leventis Says:

    @leighroy…was wondring he same

I liked that the Refs actually let the teams play football but cmon! I can understand all the handchecking between receivers and DBs. That happens on nearly every play. If it doesn’t actually interfere with the guy running the route, let it go. What I can’t understand is standing 5 yds from the QB, watching him release the ball, then being hit and THROWN to the ground like Brady was and no flag. Then on back to back series later in the game, GB left tackle false starts. On second false start he actual took a step or two back! No flag on either. Announcers NEVER even commented on any of the three, even when shown on replays. WTH? How about “ we aren’t going to the SB playing like that” and other comments showing they were in the tank for GB. Money on the outcome? Guess what? Bucs are going to the Super Bowl anyway! Love my Bucs! Looking like the Chiefs unless Bills wake up.

May have been the best call ever in a championship game. Balls to the wall. Compare that to the gutless call of Lafluer that basically cost Green Bay any chance of winning. Arians can flat out coach. Hats off to the defense that had to play 25 minutes without their two best safeties.

  14. August 1976 Buc Says:

Matt Lafleur Kick field goal = lose, Arians goes for the Juglar with A TD = win, There is the difference in points for the game. No risk it, choke on the biscuit. GO BUCS!!!!

“Don’t do nuffin’, get no muffin”

  16. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Funny, “No ‘risk it!’, no biscuit!” actually does mean something.

Go Bucs! Bring the Lombardi trophy back to Tampa in our next home game, y’all!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I was shocked they opted to kick the FG……..my money would have been on Rodgers to score…..
Can’t tell you how relieved I was to see the FG kicker come on the field.

  18. Colonel Angus Says:

NPRbuc, Aikman has always had a hate boner for the Bucs. Hell, he was rooting against them when he called the 02’ Championship game vs Eagles. Can’t stand to hear his voice.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Miller just continues to come up with big play after big play for such a lil fella.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…I think MOST of us were shocked by them kicking the FG.

I looked at my wife and said we just won the freaking game.

  21. NPRbuc Says:

Col. Angus. You would think on prime time, NFC Championship they would Park their bias for a couple of hours. They were all over SMB feeling the receivers shoulder pad for a second. No legitimate hold was seen by me yet they harped on that supposed infraction. Getting paid good money. Call the game fairly or stay home and bitch in front of a TV like the rest of we couch coaches. Jeeze 🤪

  22. Colonel Angus Says:

Yeah man, and you can almost hear the sadness in their voices when it became obvious that Bucs would win. I like them crying about a hold on Adams there at the goal line, which of course there was none, but crickets about that plain as day hold on Shaq B during the same play. I do believe maybe Broderick Thomas or Santana Dotson cranked down on his old lady back in the day. Got to be something for that deep seated hatred he has burning in his soul for the Buccaneers!

  23. DBS Says:

Did you listen after half time what was said? If you did you would know the answer. BA told the sideline reporter who made the call.

  24. Jerry Says:

LaFluer will be having nightmares on that FG call for rest of his life. It makes no sense to kick that FG. I would put the ball in Rodgers’ hands every single time in that situation. He’s the likely league MVP. The Super Bowl is on the line. Let him win it or lose it!

Worst that can happen is they don’t make it and turn it over on downs. And then the D has to stop us anyway. The FG doesn’t help because you need a TD one way or another.

  25. FortMyersDave Says:

That play of Brady to Miller has to go down as the greatest offensive play in Bucs history, take away the Ronde pick to close out the Vet and it would be the greatest play of all time and some could debate that it was. A stroke of genius by BA and the GOAT. Also they put a lot of trust in Scottie M to bring that ball in!

Now compare that call with LaFleur settling for a FG with 2:08 left, that is “Dirk Koetter turtle” right there or Lovie saying “We don’t need to score any more points before the half’….. They waived the white flag. There you have the difference between a winner and someone trying not to lose! BTW: Aikman is pretty biased but so is about 75% of the national media…. It is almost as if he bets against the Bucs like Brent Musberger used to back in the CBS NFL Today days of the ’80s. Well glad the haters took a bath in Vegas though the line moved to -3 in some spots meaning that the wise guys were quietly laying some coin on the Bucs…..

  26. FortMyersDave Says:

    Jerry,
I saw that Rodgers did have a little dig about that in his presser: he said something like: “It was not my decision”. Kind of threw the coaches under the bus but understandable!

  27. Turk182 Says:

I also counted two big plays by the Packers (one a touch down) that the play clock had expired. No flag and again, no comment.

  28. 813bucboi Says:

    Now who’s still questioning BL?…lol…

    GO BUCS

  29. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

“Can’t and won’t drink while working. Even Joe has standards. Although the other Joe has no problem with such activities.”

    Funny!

  30. Dan Williamson Says:

For all the Tom Brady naysayers that I’ve seen a few on here. You should all be kissing his butt. Go goat go Bucs!
