Time To Be Great

January 27th, 2021

More smiles coming?

If Joe has his memory wired correctly, when Bucco Bruce Arians was offensive coordinator of the Steelers against the Cardinals in the Super Bowl at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway, just before Pittsburgh’s game-winning drive wide receiver Santonio Holmes was caught by NFL Films cameras saying, “It’s time to be great. It’s time to be great.”

And Holmes only a few plays later caught a dramatic pass from Ben Roethlisberger for the Super Bowl-winning touchdown.

That’s what went through Joe’s mind when reading quotes from NFL sack king Shaq Barrett about how the Bucs defense shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the fourth quarter in the NFC Championship game.

Shaq was asked about the defense rising up and it sounded like what Holmes said late in Super Bowl XLIII.

“We knew there is no better time to be great,” Shaq said. “There is no better time to be the defense that we want to be than right [then], so we just took the challenge.

“We knew our offense was going to do what they needed to do. When we need help, they bail us out. When they need help, we bail them out. That’s why we’re playing so [well] right
now. We’re just working [well] together and we’re in sync for the most part.”

Damn right the Bucs are in sync. Especially the defense.

Joe has a great feeling the Bucs’ pass rush is going to be just as good against the Chiefs. Kansas City is likely down both of its starting right and left tackles. With Vita Vea very likely playing a lot more snaps, Shaq and Jason Pierre-Paul should feast.

Don’t think Shaq has had his last multi-sack game of the 2020 season.

I’m feeling good about this game, even though the odds are against us. I can’t recall, did the Bucs get to Mahommes the last time they played?

You don’t need to chase a cheetah when the QB is on his back.

I realize that I keep mentioning that i’ve been an NFL fan for 60 yrs. BUT io’ve been a Bucs fan since Tompa signed. I’m not from Fl. I’m from 800 miles North. WV. As soon as I saw the Chiefs on our schedule, I immediately rememberd Bilichick’s recipe for beating the Chiefs. I’ve said it since the Pats beat them twice and i will say it everyday until Feb 7th. Double Tyreek Hill ON EVERY DOWN and disrupt Kelse at the line. If Bowles doesn’t do this, I pray that our secondary is wearing asbestos because, well, you know. This is no time to be hard headed. We get 1 shot and 1 shot only. Mahomeboy, mini me, and Kellogs are not the average bear. Just remember the late great Vince Lombardi said. “winning isn’t the most important thing, it’s the ONLY thing” Rest assured, Tompa feels exactly the same way. If we can use our same recipe GREAT but if you don’t double Hill it’s over. Now, Todd and Bruce can be hard headed if they want but………………………………………!!!!

our 3 loses forced the bucs to look in the mirror…saints, packers and KC havent had to do that not once this year….

we come out fast, physical and aggressive, KC will be in for a long night…..thats how the raiders beat them…

VV pushes the pocket while jpp and shaq get around the edge, we should be fine….PM has to hit the deck at least 4 times…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

    BINGO!!!!

combined with VV pushing up the middle and jpp & shaq on the edge….i like our chances….

    GO BUCS!!!!

Yep. I agree. The recipe to keep KC in check is pretty basic.

I agree with gp once again. Mahomes is the key. It’s not just the Cheetah we have to cover…or Kelce…Mahomes beats a lot of teams with his legs.

I hope we assign D White to pay special attention to Mahomes to make sure he doesn’t get loose and run wild.

I’d love to see D White do his best Derrick Brooks against Michael Vick (another QB with great wheels) impersonation.

This game has all the ingredients. The chess match between Andy Reid and Todd Bowles and the matchup of D White against Mahomes.

    I can’t wait!!! I think it’s going to be a great game!

I’ll add to that…D. White up the middle. Ouch.
