Searching For Michael Thomas

January 17th, 2021

Shutdown corner at New Orleans

Did anyone see Michael Thomas tonight?

Did one of those voodoo witchdoctors in the French Quarter make him disappear? Did he run off to the Gumbo Shop or Cafe du Monde and the cops wouldn’t let him back in the stadium because he didn’t have a mask?

One of the best receivers in the NFL was a complete and total non-factor Sunday night. Carlton Davis totally and thoroughly wiped Thomas off the field of the Superdome.

Arguably the best receiver in Saints history was targeted four times Sunday.

Zero touchdowns.
Zero yards.
Zero catches.

Nada. Nothing. Davis erased his rear end before he got injured.

When the Bucs needed one of their corners to step up big time, they did. Yes, Sean-Murphy Bunting went hunting and got a key pick to set up the Bucs’ first touchdown.

Yes, Mike Edwards got an interception.

And of course, Devin White may have had the biggest interception in Bucs history since Ronde Barber in the 2002 NFC Championship game with his game-sealing pick tonight.

But it was Davis who made sure Thomas didn’t hurt them.

Hurt the Bucs? He didn’t even show up!

BOY DID OUR DEFENSE MAKE UP FOR LAST WEEK! C. DAVIS EARNED HIS KEEP TONIGHT ALONG WITH THE WHOLE TEAM.

  2. Chris Boyd Says:

if he can do anything close to that against adams next week, we’re gonna get a home playoff game!!!!

  3. Leighroy Says:

Wow. I had to fact check this myself, and was shocked it was true. Against this secondary?! Against this coordinator? LFG!!!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

One of the unwritten keys to this game was us holding the Saints to 2 FGs early after the punt return and their next drive….

I believe that gave our defense confidence…..

Also, the JW TD pi$$ed them off!!!

  5. Colonel Angus Says:

Props to the “Garbage Men”. Dishing out plates of cold, nasty crow. Eat it up folks, savor it. It’s a special dish, made with love and served on the finest china. Enjoy the boiled feet, and be sure to suck out that delicious marrow from those succulent crow leg bones. Come and get it!!!

  6. David Says:

    Drew Brees- 134-yds 1-td 3-int
    Kamara- 85-yds 0-TDs
    Thomas- 0-yds 0-TDs

294 total yards for the Saints and 56 was a gimmick play.

    Dominant D!!

It is the same thing they did to A-Aron and Green Bay earlier in the year.

  7. David Says:

    TampaBayBucfan

Good point. After that punt return.. holding the Saints to two field goals early on were definitely big-time wins for the defense

  8. MadMax Says:

    LOL

  9. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

WtF! Go Bucs!! We won’t dis respect you Greenbay. Never underestimate a mouse. Go Bucs!

  13. DaBux Says:

Hey, New Owlames, pay da man… OOPS…

  14. BucEmUp Says:

The bucs payed mostly man coverage, and when they did play zone the corners palyed close to the line. The correct way to call a defense FINALLY!!!!

  15. Itzok Says:

Next week will be a bigger challenge. I expect Rogers to be great. Bucs defense needs to hold GB to 31 or less points. Green Bay won’t stop the best offense in nfc. Looking forward to chiefs rematch at home.

  16. Bucsd04 Says:

Did anyone catch Lavonte yelling to the saints side line that “I want you”. Pretty sure he was yelling at jameis. Some bad blood joe? Seemed like they were motivated by that stupid stunt play at minimum.

  17. Surfslowson Says:

Carlton is a very good corner when he plays press man, but he struggles with speed/quick twitch receivers. He has shut down guys like Thomas and Hopkins, but burned badly by Tyreek Hill, he doesn’t have the speed for him, who does?

  18. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

When the D comes to play! Great things happen!

  19. MadMax Says:

    LOL WHO DAT?

  20. REDZONE BA Says:

Tampa Bucs always wins when our D is dominant. Ask Derrick B, S Rice, Ronde Barber, J Lynch. Bucs are back, BABY!

  21. Bird Says:

    Where is clean house?

    He scurred
All the cult members in hiding

  22. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Where is the real sheep herder?

  23. Nutterbuccer Says:

PRESS MAN ALL GAME LONG. OUR CORNERS ARE BUILT TO PLAY PRESS MAN WITH A LITTLE OFF MAN/ ZONE BUILT IN. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THANK YOU BOWLES FOR CALLING A GREAR GAME.

  24. Davenport Says:

Finally played tight man coverage. Surprisingly, it worked. And that’s without a pass rush

  25. Bird Says:

Dont forget SMB stiff arm to the face mask of thomas after the pick
    It was great

  26. REDZONE BA Says:

Tampa Bucs always wins when our D is dominant. Ask Derrick B, S Rice, Ronde Barber, J Lynch. Bucs are back, BABY!

I am LONG-time Bucs fan – so for the newbies, D is what is all about for Bucs winning! Adding Warren Sapp.

  27. Bird Says:

Where is “brady is a cheater” ?

    He predicted 48-3 saints
Again, the cult members so sad and in hiding
    What Losers

  28. Joe Says:

Pretty sure he was yelling at jameis. Some bad blood joe?

    Unlikely.

  29. NotTampaTom Says:

It’s clear to me that Brees was limited but the D definitely showed up. I’m sure they will do their best to prepare for a way bigger challenge next week. Go Bucs!

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Gotta watch SMBs presser……he said Michael Thomas “mean mugged” him and other Bucs during the warmups……
The trash talking didn’t help Thomas…..but I think it motivated Bucs…..

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

Playing secondary close to the line made all the difference.

See there Mr. Bowles, have a little faith.

Hats off to the D. They were 🔥 tonight. Great to finally see.

  32. BradyBucs Says:

    I’M CURIOUS…

For anyone that has closely analyzed our Defense during the season, what other games did we ever play bump-n-run and man-to-man tonight?

It’s like we finally stopped playing 10 yards off the WRs and got right up to them and challenged them all game.

THIS is what we need to do with the Packers. Hit them off the line and disrupt their routes so Rodgers can’t pick us apart with the quick short passes that Brees often throws.

  33. BradyBucs Says:

Did “Ndog” ever return to this site???

When is the last time he posted?

  34. 123urout Says:

Kudos to Todd Bowles for his defensive game plan tonight. He did his homework against the Saints and now he has a bigger homework due next week.

  35. firethecannons Says:

can’t wait to rewatch the game, as usual I get tense and unable to appreciate many of the individual plays. I still do not watch field goals and have to say Succop was money solid. Loved the secondary play tonight especially.

Dont forget SMB stiff arm to the face mask of thomas after the pick

It was an absolutely awesome play and Devin White intercepted and knocked a player over with his stiff arm Just fun to watch our guys knocking the sht outta the saints, Jared Cook got abused–just love this stuff

  37. 813bucboi Says:

Saints have to blow it up….they’re 8-8 with JW next year…lol…

    GO BUCS

  38. bkBucsFan Says:

If he did go 8-8, it’d be one of Jameis best season haha 😂

  39. BucFan76 Says:

Night and Day…from 2019 to now

Look at the possibilities when you don’t turn the ball over…

  40. ATrain Says:

Question did Winston have to clean out his locker last night

    Season is over

  41. Chris L Says:

You couldn’t have written a better script. Legendary. I couldn’t sleep all night I’m too excited and so damn proud of this team.

  42. Clean House Says:

    Hahha Bird I’m right here.

That was so much fun for me! I let out the biggest roar and smiled for 10 minutes when JW came in and threw it 20 yds past our defense. I absolutely loved it!!!

And I’m glad we’re in the NFC championship. It was a perfect game for my enjoyment as I’ve said all along. Enjoying sports is not black and white. I like Jameis and think he’s a huge talent. I’ve loved the Bucs since 86. I like former Bucs. I root for all of them. People can’t seem to understand that and say I’m not a real fan. I don’t lose sleep over this. I know who I am and what I like. And it’s a free country last I checked. I went to FSU and root for whoever I want. I didnt like the treatment JW got from the Bucs at the end.My family is from NOLA. I once lived there- I’ve been going there for many years. I like and appreciate Drew Brees. I’m a Bucs fan. I’m a balanced adult. Football is a fun part of life for me. I don’t cry over outcomes.

Go Bucs! Home Super Bowl would be amazing- Brady is the GOAT
I thinknin retrospect it’s been worth parting with JW to see Brady as a Buc.
You know what would have been even better?
If he was our #2 rather than Gabbert, But we may be seeing more of him soon. And I may even root for him if the Bucs aren’t winning.
I actually sometimes- not always root for teams from our division when we are out of it- My Dad live in Charlotte, My Bro lives in NOLA
    I’m an NFC south person.
I even rooted for the Gators in basketball once when they made the Final four because I thought it was cool and I went to FSU.

Go JW! Reigning NFL passing leader 5109, playoff TD bomb thrower, Heisman trophy winner, FSU National champ- check yo sheets

  43. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Thank God we played Man Defense tonight!

  44. Conte Piscateli Says:

This game has been coming. Brees hasn’t been able to throw down field all season. Even less after the ribs. Bowles challenged him to beat us over the top.
