Eye-Opening Assessment Of Tom Brady

January 8th, 2021

Joe was especially intrigued and pleased to hear this because the guy delivering the message is a former star quarterback who literally has spent 20-plus years studying Tom Brady.

For nearly 20 years, two-time Super Bowl-winning QB Phil Simms was the No. 1 game analyst for CBS before Tony Romo replaced him. So he often called Patriots games and met with Tom Brady, and watched Brady practices and film as part of the broadcast prep.

Simms still covers the NFL, just not live games, and he talked about what he sees now from the Bucs during a visit to SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio.

Because of his sharp eye for QB technique, skill and intricacies — and a big ego — Simms’ assessment of Brady was stunning.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a really good offensive line. … Tampa has done a great job of using their tight ends and running backs to chip, to block,” Simms said. “Then the receiving corps can get down the field fast; they’re throwing it deep. It’s tough. You think you’re going to play man-to-man against this team, you’re going to be in trouble.

“Tom Brady, he’s being protected, and Chris, he’s throwing the football — this is a big statement from me to say it — he’s throwing as good as he’s ever thrown it in his life. Yeah. Wow. Ever. I don’t care. I mean he is really in the groove or whatever you want to say. He’s throwing the ball with great power and tremendous accuracy right now. So, I can’t imagine that changing unless he’s afraid of that [Washington] front four, which I don’t think they will be.”

Whoa! So Brady is better than evey when it comes to slinging the rock? Simms went on to say the Bucs will cover the 8 1/2 point spread at Washington on Saturday.

He also was adamant that the Bucs’ blitzes will get through to Washington QB Alex Smith, who he thinks might not make it through the game.

Most often its the Red Sox fans that line up to leap from the Tobin Bridge but now the spoiled Patriot fans are taking numbers to jump! They are suicidal without TB-12.

WHERE the Heck is Ndog ???

    I need some entertainment.

  3. ModHairKen Says:

I said it before. The Offensive Line is the strength of this team. And what does Phil say? “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a really good offensive line.”

  4. Bird Says:

People want to talk about beating bad teams in past month and that is reason for his amazing stats.

    Who cares i say.

Its great time to get confident. To get better time with weapons ..especially AB. How can you double 3 guys and gronk who can block. He misses some throw every game but he makes some amazing throws everyday . 50 yard pass looks fluid and not difficult.

And i know his losses were against good dlines
But these last few weeks we saw greatness. We dont normally win in shootouts in years past. This guy is balling. He is making checks at line and i think he is helping leftwich with good diagram plays. He tells rb who is coming. They are bringing guy in motion to see if man or zone.

I am more worried about defense to be honest. But suh is playoff guy. Jpp has been there. Hopefully they bring the kitchen sink tomorrow

He is getting more comfortable and hopefully it gets better and better!

I’ve been a die-hard Bucs fan since living in Tampa on day-1 when the city was awarded a team. I was 23 then. With that said:

Addiction is a terrible thing, especially when I’ve become addicted to something I never wanted to become addicted to in the first place, losing! But the Bucs have redefined the term over the last 44yrs. setting short and long term records that will likely never be broken.

Then, in 2002, they graciously gave us fans our AA-chip when they went out and actually not only made the playoffs, but won the SB, how awesome was that! But, “clean and sober” didn’t last very long as it only took a couple years for the team to become regular losers once again. Addiction set back in.

Fast forward and now 67 yrs. old, just as fans of the other teams are doing, I’m looking forward to what I hope is a long playoff run to the SB. However, I’ve been s-o-o-o-o programmed to get use to the losing that even though the Bucs are led by the GOAT, I’m finding it hard to get too excited, and that really pisses me off. Damn, overcoming addictions IS VERY HARD TO DO!

    Go Bucs!

    SB,

When the going gets tough, NDOG gets going.

I did his face on a milk cartoon a few weeks ago!

  8. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I love all the deep passes. Its like watching the Gators in the 90s. Basically the same offense.

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

To be fair, I’ve rarely agreed with Simms. Sometimes I’ve wondered what games he watches.

  10. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Real simple, if the Bucs can’t beat the What the F@ck team, we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

  11. JP09 Says:

Rojo goes over 100 tomorrow, The downgrade (THE GOAT) Throws 320 and 3 TDs.

Bucs 34 The skins that were red and now think they have a football team 16

I don’t know why Smith is still playing the game. He’s going to end up a cripple. He’s already richer than rich.

To me this is the Bears game again. We should dominate in my mind but that defense causes some if’s.

  17. David Says:

    I completely agree.
The o-line is probably sick of hearing about the wash D.
The Bucs O-line has been great!

    Bucs – 34-16

  18. August 1976 Buc Says:

Even if the Bucs lose, the QB debate that so many have put in their 2 cents is over. There is no QB in the History of this franchise that can compare to Brady. Sorry case closed. Whatever the Bucs do this year in the playoffs, it does not matter, BRADY is still he GOAT in Tampa Bay and THE GOAT in the History of the Annal of the Storied NFL GO BUCS!!!!

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

Smith is no different than Brees, collapse lung and fractured ribs, these guys are competitors, Brady would and has done the same. Superbowl against Philly, offense of 500yds, he almost had a career ending injury, played with 25 stitches I this thumb. The lost thanks to BB’s arrogant stubbornness. Anyway onto Bucs, no way they lose this game, Brady and those stud receivers won’t let it happen. Bucs o-line is far better than the credit they get. D backfield on the other hand ranked 21st in league. That’s the leak.

  20. Grizam Says:

    So excited for tonight’s game!
Hoping Rojo 100+ yds and TD
    TB12 350yds & 3-TD’s!!!
    #GoBuc’s!

  21. Ge Fit:oi Says:

When doesn’t anyone give the Buccaneers credit for beating Green Bay the number one seed ! 20 years in New England and all l heard was how easy the patriots schedule was ! Brady moves to Tampa and again he has an easy schedule ?? Does anyone think maybe its Brady and the team who make it look easy !!!

I’m older than you and I feel your pain and share your addiction.

Even though Brady has performed incredibly well we’re still waiting for something bad to happen.

I’m feeling better though. He’s uncorked a few mysterious throws but not that many and some of his early interception problems were clearly still getting hooked up with his receivers.

Early in the year he and in particular ME were not always on the same page.
Last part of the year they clicked. They’re ready. TB-AB connection is ready TB-CG connection is now polished as well…and of course there may be no better connection over the past decade than Brady Gronk.

I’m scared like you CalBuc but I’m feeling pretty good.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I pointed this out the other day. His stats are extremely good this year.
