Defense Gets Aaron Rodgers To Choke (Again)

January 24th, 2021

Defenses gets the job done.

There were more than a few people, including a guy locally who likes to pat himself on the back as a celebrity, who went on loud megaphones (including the local sports station that once boasted itself as the Bucs’ flagship) who bragged and mocked how the Bucs had no prayer today.

He said Aaron Rodgers would slice the Bucs apart like a knife-wielding cook at a Japanese steakhouse.

Somebody forgot to tell the Bucs’ defense about that.

The Bucs held the mighty Rodgers, believed to be this year’s NFL Most Valuable Player, in his walk-in deep freeze of a home stadium, to one field goal in the all-important fourth and final quarter. And that helped seal the Bucs’ second trip in franchise history to the Super Bowl.

In the five second-half possessions for the mighty and allegedly unstoppable Rodgers and the Packers, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and his troops shut down Green Bay on three of those second-half possessions, allowing but 10 points.

And this was without two starting safeties, Antonio Winfield and Jordan Whitehead, who left the game with a shoulder injury.

Mr. Bowles, you earned another interview or two as a head coach. Now get it out of the way and find a way to shut down the AFC champion like you did  two Hall of Famers the past two games.

So happy for the defense they played great. Shaq Barrett and JPP were great.

Sean Murphy Bunting comes up huge yet again. Jamel Dean was solid too.

  2. David Says:

Everyone go on lock down and get healthy!!
I don’t want to hear about Covid!!
I want to hear how Whitehead, Winfield and Brown are good to go

  3. sauron's eye Says:

Big Team win. Couldn’t have happened without the D!

  4. Bobby Says:

Great team effort but I’d give the game ball to the defense

  5. BDub Says:

“The Rogers rate isn’t real” – Jake from State Farm

  6. geno711 Says:

I guess this team can beat winning teams!

  7. Zzbuc Says:

Defensa played very well….. the only problem was Carlton Davis…… he males plays fron time to time but he is lost most of the times and is a missing tackle machine….. but lets forget about critica and celebrate now!!!!

  8. Seńor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Awesome game Great job by the defense. Super performance by ALL the backups with big plays

  9. BDub Says:

Buffalo or KC? Who wants it!?

  10. NashvilleBuc Says:

    What is happening??????!!!!!

  11. Seńor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

BUT, that was perfect. Roger’s rate is NOT REAL

  12. BDub Says:

    Lol

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    And Devin White had a quiet 15 tackles & a fumble recovery……

  14. Bird Says:

Winfield should be good to go by super bowl

    Hope whitehead can play too

  15. SKBucsFan Says:

Lmao BDub. Apparently there isn’t one. Jake was right

  16. Oxycondoms Says:

    Getting vea back was huge

  17. Miller5252 Says:

Best thing Bowles did was let Vita play. His first 2 times Vita was on the field Shaq and JPP got sacks!! Can’t say Vita doesn’t change how the line gets pressure! They had a hell of a second half holding Rodgers. Great game! Way to go D!!

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Let’s go Bills!

  19. Cobraboy Says:

How is Brady NOT the MVP?

  20. NaplesBucsFan Says:

SMB IS THE MVP ON D SO FAR THESE PLAYOFFS!!!!

  21. REDZONE BA Says:

Brooks and Sapp must be a smiling big…..Go D!

  22. Will Says:

Defense played great pressure on Rogers was huge. Carlton Davis needs some new cleats and needs to start going at legs when making a tackle. Brady had some Winston type moments but did enough in the end.
ENJOY BUCS FANS! For those of you in Tampa I envy you but if wifey gives the green light we might just be making the trip out there. Lol

  23. Pewter Power Says:

No reason we should win the division and run it back next year

  24. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Joe deserves a game ball for his analysis of the Vita Vea move. JPP and Shaq combined for five sacks and every one of those was with Vea in the game. He took on 2-3 GB OL on those plays, leaving them in one on one’s. Nice call Joe!

  25. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

This is a team of destiny. It doesn’t matter which team we play.
Ndog watched the game with Tmax and Realist at Realist’s Mom’s single wide with the sheep. They are all really sad. Tmax left in his ’75 Pinto and Ndog went home in his old AMC Pacer. What a pathetic sight!

  26. windbaggery Says:

Good week. Orange man gone, Bucs go to Superb Owl 🦉🦉🦉

  27. CalBucsFan Says:

Already a great, yet very young defense and Leftwich has grown immensely at the oc, so why let a good thing come to an end?

So how about the Bucs make Bowles AND Leftwich co-HC’S once Arians retires after winning the SB?

  28. Coburn Says:

Best news is as big as Vea was he gets two weeks now and we get that same time for Winfield, whitehead, brown… Tbh jones should have fresh legs..the big thing with him is we need to be willing to throw it his way occasionally… Whenever he was in there in 1st down the Packers knee we were running him up the gut

  29. Fernando Says:

    Having Vea was huge

  30. ModHairKen Says:

Shaq was shot out of a rocket on that one sack. JPP bull rushed inside on another and that was great, too.

These guys showed up in a big way today.

    Men.

  31. Crispy Says:

    Antoine

  32. FortMyersDave Says:

There were a lot of people picking the Pack and they were all wrong!!!!! I am trying to figure out who Joe is referring to above as a local celeb who went all in on the Pack (T J of the times? Diaz came back from retirement to make a guess?)

  33. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

defense still wins championships in this game! Offense gets you there and defense gets you to the dance!! ….. What… A… WIN!!!!!! …. Give it up for JPP and Barrett!! The guys you haven’t heard from much came up BIG tonight!! Amazing!! I was TOTALLY wrong about JPP and Barrett not being the ones to hit Rogers tonight! I thought for sure they would go back to what beat them the first time and drop those guys back while the linebackers blitzed…. I don’t think I saw White blitz once??? …. Man what a game!! What a super star Brady is!! As much as I believe defense wins championships, Brady is the guy that made this all possible… He brought the best out of this team!! Talent was never an issue and everyone in the league kept saying it!! …. I can’t wait for super bowl baby!!!

  34. Bucamania Says:

YES! JPP and Shaq came up HUUUUGE!

That Scotty Miller TD was the difference.

  35. The Daily Coroner Says:

Vita Vea was able to crush the center of the pocket back a few times pushing Rodgers back and out for Barrett and JPP to feast on! Literally and figuratively a very big difference.

  36. TampaTown Says:

Give credit where credit is due. Thank you Mr Bowles!

  37. FortMyersDave Says:

The best team won today. Plus for the first time in a long time I am actually agreeing with Skip Bayless, its a great day in football! I will Bayless credit, he stuck to his guns and has backed the Bucs until now unlike other rats who jumped the ship like Cowherd!

  38. 813bucboi Says:

Bowles and BL called great games

    Hat tip fellas

    GO BUCS

The whole realist and his sheep comments over the last few years are funny as hell.

The whole realist and his sheep comments are what I remember most about the last couple of (depressing) years on this site. Funny as hell. Super Bowl. Good times!
