Devin White A Terror

December 27th, 2020

High praise for Bucs ILB.

A former NFL offensive lineman believes a young Bucs defender has transformed himself into a beast of a linebacker.

The former NFL offensive lineman would be Brian Baldinger, of NFL Network. And the beast? That would be inside linebacker Devin White.

Baldinger demonstrated with All-22 the plays that White made against the Lions yesterday that jumped out for any football fan. Baldinger compared White to a newly polished Bobby Wagner. That’s high praise in Joe’s book.

The way Joe looks at White, it is crazy good how he has developed into a pass-rushing blitzer. He has nine sacks. For an inside linebacker, that is crazy.

Joe isn’t sold yet on White as a pass defender. If he has a weakness, this is it. Therefore, since he has developed into a feared pass rusher, why not blitz him more often?

Play to a man’s strengths, not his weakness.

You can see Baldinger’s video presentation of White below.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

For fun, I was listening to some local radio d-bags in Detroit preview this game and they said Devin White was really struggling and not that good, and Winfield was OK for a rookie but nothing special. Made me laugh.

  2. Bird Says:

    I love baldinger videos

But but. We needed a sack defensive end.
Why not get a guy that has a chance at 10 sacks a year and lead the team (and maybe nfl in tackles one day)

I know he talks with derrick brooks. Derrick should work in offseason with him on coverage. He can learn. This kid can fly for his size. And he loves contact. And his attitude is infectious. True leader on defense.

  3. ModHairKen Says:

White is poor in coverage. Fact. So blitz him.

I think since White has arrived, Suh and JPP have more picks than White.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

KC just took the lead with about 1:55 to go, now it’s Matty Ice time, LOL!

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

I agree Joe. I’d like to see improvement in pass defense BUT, the kid is turning into a nice LB.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

WOW, Matty Ice almost lost the game twice and the KC defense couldn’t close it out. Matty tried to give it away and KC didn’t take it! Amazing stuff.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

LOL! The Falcons miss the easy kick to tie it up!

    MATTY ICE comes through again!

  8. Rod Munch Says:

The Falcons had the best kicker in the league all year, and their kicker misses a chip shot after MATTY ICE almost fumbles, then almost throws an INT. Entertaining stuff. Hopefully the Falcons are completely crushed now and don’t show up next week.

  9. Bird Says:

That kicker never misses for falcons and he missed an easy one. They are cursed. Hope that continues next week. People commenting bucs are winning cupcake games.

    Chiefs struggled against atlanta

  10. Buczilla Says:

White’s already our best middle linebacker since Nickerson.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Buczilla – He’s still behind Shelton Quarles and Kwon, although him and Kwon are very close and I’d expect him to pass him next year. He has a ways to go to pass Quarles, but certainly has the talent to pass him. He has to improve in pass coverage to get past either guy.

  12. MadMax Says:

    D. White is still learning…but the beast is there…and I agree, play to his strengths… db’s can pass cover….move him into Shaq’s spot…hes got that speed….rush rush rush!

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Speaking of Kwon, the Bucs should bring him back next year – he should be cheap and the only reason the Bucs got rid of him is because of his cost. If you used White as more of a rusher, then Kwon could play inside — or worst case, if you can’t afford to bring David back, you could put Kwon in his spot (not calling for it and don’t want it, but the salary cap might make it necessary). Kwon got injured again, but I’m assuming he’d be healthy this offseason and would likely get a 1-year prove it deal, which would be perfect for the Bucs.

  14. ModHairKen Says:

Rod Munch, excellent suggestion. Kwon would be a great addition.

  15. Craig Says:

Devin White is still an excitable boy. He sees something and goes after it. That causes him to over pursue at times and leaves his spot open.

His timing for red dog blitzes is almost impeccable and that helps, but in a year or two he will settle out and be really good.

Kwon is too fragile, he hurts himself every season.

  16. Youngbucs Says:

Rod munch you’re really of your rocker kwon 😂 no wonder you Stan jameis. You’re blind as a 🦇

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Savior Grisly

  18. JimmyJack Says:

Pleasantly suprized to see this article. For fair reason Devin White has been getting overlooked. Our offense is just that good.

But Devin White has been on an avsolute tear lately. He has been putting up stats and playing like Lawerance Taylor out there the last few games.

This is a great sign for a 2nd year player. You can almost expect all these flashes we seen from White to get more and more consistent as he gets more experience. It sure is exciting to see White really start to show us why he was worthy of a Top Tier Draft Choice. If he keeps going like he is we gonna gotta build a statue for the guy!!!

If the Bucs go on a run this year Devin might be the biggest reason why.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  19. firethecannons Says:

Joe a playoff breakdown please we want Seahawks to win right? and why? Help!

  20. Rod Munch Says:

I didn’t even realize this, but the Rams can still miss the playoffs. Wow.

I guess you’d want the Seahawks to win since it gives the Bucs a slight buffer in case they lost next week, but you’d need the Rams to lose next week too for it to matter.

If the Bucs win, they get #5 – there isn’t any scenario that I see where they wrap the spot this week, and next week the Rams/Cards don’t play until 4:25, so the Bucs can’t rest anyone unless the game is wrapped up early.

Also the Panthers are beating the Redskins, and the Eagles just got a 81-yard TD from D-Jax… if the Redskins lose out, and the Eagles win out, we’d play them in the 1st round. Not sure I’d want to see that as their QB is on fire right now.

  21. Beej Says:

Wow, kid leads the NFL in tackles, and tackles for loss

  22. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch you should root for the Hawks. We want the #5 seed. It gives us the worst division winner. No team in the East can compete with the other division winner in NFC………I dont care who the Bucs beat I want pkayoff victory as our new minimual expectation.

Then if you win #5 you get a decent shot to host a later round playoff game at Ray Jay. And you get an advantage over the 6&7 teams when they reseed for the 2nd round.

  23. firethecannons Says:

thx Rod Falcons Chiefs game was a sloppy mess, hoping we get a demoralized Falcons team next week. Just nice to be out of Buccaneers cove!

  24. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – If the Bucs win they get the #5 seed, but yeah, I’m wanting them to get that #5 seed. Although with the way the Eagles are playing, if they win the east, suddenly it’s a lot more difficult. I’m still holding out hope the Cowboys can come back, win next week and the Redskins lose out.

Also, doing some various scenarios, the Rams can still get the #1 seed – or be out of the playoffs completely. To me, they’d be a great team to play the Saints and knock them out in the first round. Then again the Saints and still very much get the #1 seed, and the Packers could slide all the way to #3.

All in all, the positioning of everything is still very much in the air.

In the playoffs, if I’m the Bucs, the teams I don’t want to play, in order, are 1) Saints, 2) Rams, 3) Packers, 4) Seahawks, 5) Eagles, 6) Bears, 7) Cardinals, 8) Redskins, 9) Giants and 10) Cowboys.

  25. firethecannons Says:

Saints have our number hope we can steer far away from them early.

  26. Buczilla Says:

    @Rod Munch

I could maybe see an argument made for Shelton even though I don’t agree, but Kwon?!? The human missed tackling machine isn’t even in Devin’s zip code.

  27. bucfanforever Says:

A team that goes scared of other teams in the playoffs is a team that leaves the playoffs early. Bring on the Saints, Rams, Packers, and Seahawks. Devin White and crew are hungry.

  28. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Kwon popped his Achilles…probably a full calendar injury if not more.

  29. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Munch

You’re high as a kite if you think Kwon is all that.

He’s never even played a complete season, or he’d have even more missed tackles than he already does. He had one great play in his career.

    Literally a one hit wonder.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Buczilla – Kwon had one off season, outside of that was one of the best LBs in football. Also most of his misses were against Kamara, that’s where that fake news stereotype came from – and Kamara is really good and makes a lot of people miss. There’s a reason he got $15m from the 49ers.

Limpchimpi – Oh man, I didn’t realize that was his injury, I saw that he was hurt but just assumed it was more of a minor issue. That stinks for him – and my idea of getting a cheap a LB. He did return from injury very fast in the past, so maybe he can do it again. Feel bad for him, he seems like a really good guy.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

Cowboys take the lead going into halftime, while the Redskins are down big. They’re keeping my hopes alive for a 1st round game against in Dallas.

  32. Bird Says:

    So banned again?

    Just curius

  33. JimmyJack Says:

Munch i dont think we get #5 if we win. Rams can tie us i think and they get #5. Either way im worried. Because football is only one game and its scarry as hell. Its fun to hope for a 5 seed and a good chance to get big playoff win.

To be Honest Im fine letting the chips fall where they may. I honestly think our team is good enough to beat anybody when they play their A game.

But i wont lie it would be nice to see us get that first playoff win in 20 years. I dont care if its a cheapy freebe. I want the beagging rights!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  34. ocala Says:

Bucs are the five seed if they win next week. Does not matter if Rams or Seattle wins.

  35. Buxszntkt Says:

I disagree on Keon being better than White. Maybe he was a bit better in pass coverage but White had been at least as good if not better in run coverage, side to side speed, and I believe he’s stronger with his hits. He certainly isn’t getting hurt every year. Even with equal all around performance white doesn’t break down every year.

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Rod i would love to play the Cowboys. I am still bitter from the last time we had a playoff opoortunity and Dallas smacked us around like a younger brother in 16′. Revenge sounds nice.

  37. Jmarkbuc Says:

“ one of the best LBs in football, Also most of his misses were against Kamara, that’s where that fake news stereotype came from”

Your strained credibility just took a leap off the skyway….

  38. Miller5252 Says:

Kwon is not better then White. Last years super bowl was a perfect example of what Kwon would always do….. take a crappy angle and miss a tackle he needed to and should make. That sealed the win for the Chiefs. If you can get him cheap and he’s not out for a full season, sure. But not because he’s that good. Lynch got him because he thought he could be his all pro linebacker….. once he got an up close view of all the bad angles and constantly being hurt, that was the end of him.

  39. Buczilla Says:

    @ Rod Munch

Look, Kwon has a great story and he was decent at times with us, but the reason the Niners vastly overpaid for him is because they made a mistake. There’s a reason why he got traded to the Saints for a lousy 5th round pick and another highly flawed linebacker. Since 2015 no player has missed more tackles than Kwon and he has missed over 30 games during that span. That’s one of the most damning stats that I have ever seen and there’s nothing fake about that news.

  40. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Lol…. Love the overly critical fans on this sight. This is a second year guy who is still learning but looks faster and faster every game. He’s a one of kind talent and character. This dude is going to blow up in the playoffs.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Not that it matters now, but regardless of that Rams/Seahawks game, the Bucs get #5 if they win next week. With the Rams loss, the Bucs can still get the #5 seed if the Bucs lose and the Rams lose next week. But the Rams/Cards game next week is at 4:25, and the Bucs play at 1, so they can’t rest anyone or take any chances.

Also if the Cards win and the Bears win next week, then the Rams are out, which would be great since they’re a terrible matchup for the Bucs. Although with the way the Rams have played the last 2 games, I could certainly be wrong.

  42. D1 Says:

The way it looks if the bucs have a chance for a home playoff game it will be for the nfc championship. We need to beat, probably the Cowboys as they appear to be in the lead to win the east.

If we win, and we should, then it’s Green Bay. Beat the pack, and we may get lucky enough to get a home game.

For that to happen the Saints and Seahawks both must lose.

Right now, it’s beat Dallas in Dallas and Green Bay.

  43. D1 Says:

Most likely, if we are able to beat Dallas and Green Bay, the Saints will be the only thing standing in the way of the Super Bowl.

  44. Rod Munch Says:

D1 – We will see what happens with the Packers, their defense stinks against the rush, and they’re facing the Titans. But the Titans stink in pass defense, and they’re facing the Packers.

In any case it’s a snow game, which are always fun to watch.

If the Packers lose, which is what I’m expecting to happen, they can still fall as low as the #3 seed. The Packers play the Bears next week, and the Bears will be trying to play themselves in since if they win, they’re in – so it’s not an easy game. For the Saints, they play the Panthers on the road, while they should win, it’s a divisional game, so who knows.

Still a lot of positioning to occur.

  45. Bird Says:

    Munch

    He is on last threat:

    Jump off bridge
    Walk into a syringe
Believe jameis will fit in ur ____

He demands bad teams. We are playing dawg teams
Atl is good. He attacked matty ice for losing at end
He never gave credit to last qb for that

    😂

  46. mark2001 Says:

Who drafts a middle linebacker that high? Glad it was us.

  47. Elita Vita Says:

Bucs need to psychologically feel they can be EVERYBODY. In order to BE the best they need to BEAT the best. We expect nothing less from the teams that get to the Super Bowl. The minute they start thinking which teams they WANT to meet they will become psychologically hesitant-a recipe for disaster. Bring on all comers. Be positive and concentrate on winning!!! Go Bucs!!!

  48. Elita Vita Says:

    *beat everybody^

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Elita Vita – I don’t care how they feel about anything so long as they win. But as for the positivity nonsense, it’s nonsense, the only thing you win by being positive is an HIV positive contest.

  50. Waterboy Says:

Joe I remember this “You don’t draft a middle LB at #5”. How’s your “pass rusher” Josh Allen looking?

  51. I CARE NOW Says:

Did ME13 just make the HOF in his 7th season??? There can be NO QUESTION!!!

Mike Evans made 10 receptions for a season-best 181 yards receiving and two touchdowns, marking his franchise-record 13th receiving touchdown of the year. He also became one of just seven players in NFL history with 8,000+ receiving yards and 60+ receiving touchdowns in their first seven seasons, joining Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe.

    CASE CLOSED!!!

  52. Elita Vita Says:

    @Rod Munch

I tend to disagree. A positive confident frame of mind can effect your play just like a negative frame of mind can Ask Matt Gay or Aguyo about that.

  53. Scott Says:

White is only in his second year. He’s continued to progress but in time I think he will be better in pass coverage

  54. Rod Munch Says:

There’s a simple answer to White not being good in coverage… don’t play him in coverage. Problem solved!

    Easy stuff.

If White turns out to be a natural rusher, well, then you got that pass rusher Joe was staying we MUST get at #5 – and everyone should be happy.

  55. orlbucfan Says:

White willl continue to improve. He’s got one of the finest LBs in the game playing alongside and mentoring him. That would be LVD who will be back next year as a Buc.

  56. JimbobBucsFan Says:

As a role model Lavonte David is for Devin White what Hardy Nickerson was for Derrick Brooks.  White is still learning his craft.  He has superstar potential and should get into the Hall of Fame eventually if he lives up to it.

Neither Nickerson nor David has anything to be ashamed of. They will always be loved by true Buc fans though only other players and coaches will probably remember them 20 or 25 years from now.

  57. Rod Munch Says:

JimbobBucsFan – uh no… don’t compare White to Brooks… Maybe in 10 years if he’s on the all-decade team and made the pro-bowl 9 times and is an all-pro 5 times, then you can compare him to Brooks, but White has a long way to go. I hope he gets there, I really hope he does, but Brooks is a 1st ballot HOFer and one of the very very best LBs to ever play the game. White is a kid in his 2nd year with promise.
